Then again, it didn’t stop them with Dadonov, I guess.</div></div>
Lol yea I was looking at fits and most teams are kinda good on goalie. In terms of desperate teams with poor goalies it was inevitably down to Chicago and Arizona and just went with the latter and thought it would’ve been quite the Vegas move to do so.
As for Martinez I thought going from one expansion team to another seemed fine. I’m sure he’d go to Seattle no problem.

Lehner a bad contract? Especially in a day and age where good goalies are hard to come by. I honestly should’ve would’ve gotten more. I mean sure he had a bad year on a meh year on an injury riddled Vegas team but prior to that he was incredible. He’s definitely not a negative asset and the Coyotes need a goalie.

I said In the description that it’ll depend on how he performs this year. And honestly it’s not super far off especially to play for a good team. Look at Giroux for example. I think Term gets it done. Sure he can probably get $8+ on a 1 year but if he preforms bad he might get less than $4 the next. Especially with the cap going up gradually and there being a million teams near the cap your gonna see GMs being stingy. I just think it’s a culmination of things that made it make sense to go with that number.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tea</b></div><div>Did you just call Braun, Rooney, and Nemeth "good depth"... Nemeth was a liability, and Braun wasn't much better. Jones is suuuch a big upgrade, especially since he looks to be pretty decent defensively, a potential upgrade over Trouba on pp2, and has chemistry with Schneider. Sure, the depth is a bit iffy, our next dmen are Hajek and Robertson, but that can be fixed through a waiver claim or a Braun-like deadline trade.
I see a lot of Rangers fans making this mistake: we can't compare this seasons opening night roster to the post-deadline roster last year. Last years predeadline team saw a period of Goodrow playing on the 1st line, Hunt on the 2nd for over 40 games, Laffy and Kakko rarely got chances in the top 6, and when they did they didn't look amazing. Georgiev sucked for the majority of the season, finishing with a 0.898sv%, WHICH WAS WORSE THAN HALAK BTW, and we started the season with our 3rd pair being Nemeth-Tinordi, which is simply unplayable.
Now, let's compare the pre-deadline starting lineup last year, to this year:
Laf - Zibanejad - Kreider
Panarin - Strome - Kakko
Blais - Chytil - Goodrow
Hunt - Rooney Reaves
Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Tinordi - Nemeth
Kreider - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - Trocheck - Kravtsov
Lafreniere - Chytil - Goodrow
Hunt - Carpenter - Vesey
Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Jones - Schneider
Now, immediately we have to take into account the improvement from guys like Laf, Chytil, Kakko, and Miller, they're all muuch better than they were at the start of last season. Lafreniere looked out of place on the first line, Chytil was mediocre throughout the whole regular season, and Kakko was injured for 39 games.
First line: Kakko on the 1st line looked pretty good last year, and with how bad Laffy played for his first games (to the point of being replaced by Goodrow) means this is most likely an upgrade. Now, Kreider might regress a bit, but Zibanejad had a bit of a downyear scoring wise, and if Kakko can live up to the hype, this is absolutely better than last year.
Second line: Trocheck hasn't yet played a game, yet I think he will turn out to be an upgrade. People forget this, but Strome did not have a good playoffs last year, and his regular season was pretty average. Sure, it was a career year goal scoring wise, and he put up more points than Trocheck, but considering he was playing with Panarin... I like Strome, but he was pretty streaky and never really drove that line, so I'll say this is an improvement. Kravtsov is still a bit of a question mark, but I think he has the tools and the work-ethic to provide a lot of offense to that line.
Third line: this is no question a better 3rd line. Laf and Chytil should both be worlds better than they were last year after how they looked during that playoff run. Goodrow was also solid last year, I'd say he's a bit underrated, even though his contract is questionable. This line will hopefully get a decent bit more icetime than they did last year.
Fourth line: I don't really care how much you trashed Carpenter, he had a solid season. He doesn't put up points, but he's a solid shutdown/pker, which is exactly what Rooney was for us. I don't see this as a downgrade at all. Vesey had a solid preseason, and I have a lot of hope for him. His skill set would probably be better utilized on the 3rd line, but he's not a liability, and is better overall than Reaves. Hunt is, of course, Hunt. People forget how good he is defensively, I think his time on the 2nd line last year distracts fans from the player he really is. His defensive numbers and PK have always been excellent, and he does provide a little bit of offense. Alongside Vesey, he should be pretty good as a 4th line forechecker. Overall, this might not be an upgrade, but it's certainly no downgrade.
Defense: The top 4 is the same, although I'd say it'll be better with a potential Miller breakout year. The 3rd pair is just unequivocally an improvement, Schneider and Jones working well defensively in the preseason while each also providing infinitely more offense than Nemeth and Tinordi combined.
Halak should be good for ~15 wins, Domingue might play a handful of games too, but when you have Igor, goaltending is not a worry at all.
Despite missing Blais, this is a very solid team, much better than the team that lost 5-1 to the Caps during the opener last year. With a few deadline tweaks, it'll be just as good, if not better than the team that took Tampa to 6 in the conference finals.</div></div>
Well we’ll see, also I’m not a rangers at all just a crazed hockey fan that can speak pseudo-efficiently on all teams. With that being said the reason I compared the playoff team is simply because the rangers had a ton of cap space to weaponize last year going into the deadline. This year they are tenfold tighter up to the cap. I’m almost certainly convinced that last years team going into the playoffs will be better than this years. Although I’m speaking quite prematurely. Interms of exchanging players for cap. The rangers have almost no bad contracts to exchange with. Maybe a Ryan reaves but after that it’s bleak. And there’s no way Trouba’s contract is moveable not to mention his captaincy would make the team reluctant to move him.
So I mean take that as u may but I find it hard for this team to make any meaningful additions such as a vatrano and a Copp.

We probably lose 7 of the first 10 - and then the panic sets in</div></div>
Honestly last year was the year to win it which is such a pessimistic outlook especially since it feels like the rebuild literally finished last year. Let’s look, Fox’s massive extension didn’t kick in yet, A great playoff run from Vatrano, Strome, Copp followed by good depth from Motte, Braun, Rooney, Nemeth and Georgiev.. All Gone.. and most signing long term with their new teams. To follow that up, mostly all of the replacements are underwhelming albeit with much less cap space to work with. Halak is a downgrade at backup, Trocheck who preformed slightly worse than Strome and has to build up the chemistry that strome had, Carpenter had an abysmal year and a few others. All and all, I’m optimistic yet fearful. On top of all those things Nils looks to be really solid to finish off the stars Preseason.

Ty Emberson is pretty chalked up as a nothing prospect and I’d bet a decent amount of money that the rangers won’t tender him a qualifying offer at the end of the year. Also as for why the Coyotes traded him rather than doing a future considerations trade is because it clears a contract spot for Nemeth in the trade.
In the Little trade the Coyotes got Nathan Smith who was the main prize.
As for the Kassian trade they got a 2nd and 3rd which was Market Value for taking on his contract and they moved up 3 spots in the first round. It’s a win win. That trade needs the least amount of explaining lol.

Opening night roster
Pay ZAR $750,000. That’s still the league minimum until next year when it’ll go to $775,000. The $762,500 is usually for people signing a 2 year contract for league minimum ($750,000, $775,000) so $762,500 would be the medium of those 2 values. So for the leafs they would definitely only pay Zach $750,000 to be most cap efficient. Any dollar matters to be cap compliant. :)

I fully agree on all these points. I’ve never seen such a visceral attempt on trying to properly spend the cap that we have this off season. Half of those signings we dont even need and dekeyser making anything more than $1 million is insane In my eyes, lol.

I feel like most hockey fans that don’t watch the red wings often don’t understand how bad dekeyser is. I think he has a good possibility of not even getting a contract offer this off season from any team let alone $5+ million to resign with us. Plus we have absolutely no room for him imo. Edvinsson should also be looked at for that defense.

I mean Sabres are the team with the most cap space going into free agency and they need to reach the cap floor. They already had to make the boychuck trade to accommodate for their lack of spending. Plus at the minimum monahan has the possibility to actually make an impact and resurrection his career.

I wish it was that easy but in a flat cap world any contract even psuedo-bad is gonna take a bit to trade away. We’ve seen quite a few trades where teams have had to trade away multiple seconds minimum to trade away contracts that didn’t seem too horrible on paper.

Fair enough. Monahan has the capabilities to have a good bounce back season with a team like Buffalo so I think a second and a prospect could be about fair. As for lucic I think u may be right. Maybe a first or 2 seconds for lucic tbh

Call me crazy but I can see San Jose unqualifying John Leonard. He’s been abysmal this year in the ahl and even tho he’s highly touted and was given strictly nhl time last year, he didn’t preform well at all. Being that he’s only a 6th round pick it would be too much of an upset if they let him go. I’ve always found him pretty overrated

Hathaway brings a better grit presence and makes it so Wilson doesn't have to do that all on his own, and his 4th line chemistry with Dowd is something that is hard to match. I would instead trade Sheary and move Protas or Sprong to the left side.
Also not a fan of bringing in Leddy, Especially not for two years.
My preferred lines here would be
Ovi-Kuzy-Wilson
McMichael-Backy-Mantha
Sprong-Eller-Oshie
Hathaway-Dowd-Protas
Fehervary-Carlson
Orlov-Jensen
Alexeyev-TVR
Lapierre, Cholo, Leason/AJF as scratches</div></div>
Can’t argue with that tbh. I only traded garnet cause I can see protas replacing him as a gritty option in place of Hathaway but trading away sheary is probably more appropriate. I only signed leddy to be a carbon copy replacement of Justin Schultz but obviously leddy is a bit better. I’m just not sure Washington have the depth to throw alexeyev into the team just this early. Plus they have the cap space to do so. Doesn’t have to be leddy but I’m sure he can be another reclamation project for a Detroit defenseman in Washington (i.e. Cholowski, Jensen and Mcilrath) lol.

To be fair after seeing the suter and parise buyouts I envisioned atleast 1 if not both of them signing with Tampa for under a mill so seeing someone make that a reality gives me a weird feeling that it make actually happen on day 1 of free agency. But I feel the killorn deal won’t be a complete cap dump even tho he’s not who he was but seeing the Blackhawks get that return for Keith and he’s older and gets paid a million more I could see killorn actually getting a fair return but teams may be stingy to help Tampa again but teams would be dumb to not take killorn. Also I’d pay more to get rid of Johnson. I can also see julien try and sign Ross to a 2 year minimum on the 1 way like he did with Joseph and Mitchell Stephen last year. Albeit I can see Tampa 3 peat honestly
