Dermott on the squad
Absolutely no way the Pens trade Blueger if he is only going to want $1M. They probably don't even have interest in trading him if he is going to cost $2M

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MauriceArthur15</b></div><div>Ok my bad I misunderstood. Is Marcus Petterson that bad or is just overpaid?</div></div>
He is just slightly overpaid, but the bigger issue is that the Pens have to move out 2 of Zucker, Matheson and Petterson without much money coming back in, just in order to fit Marino's new contract in and any of the RFA's or UFA's that the Pens may want to keep. They currently have about $25M spent on 5 D. About $4M for each of Dumo, Petts and Matheson all on the left. Not to mention that POJ should be on the team next year, his ELC is very valuable to the team.

Nope... the only D that needs to be protected are Letang and Dumo. Marino and POJ are exempt.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MauriceArthur15</b></div><div>Ok but you also have to take into account you’re heading into the last year of Kris Letang contract and he is injury prone. 3 line rw is more of a free agency move than anything else with how deep rw pool is.
<strong>Also FYI it’s rumoured that McCann will be Seattles selection</strong> unless Pits gives up futures which is a no go imo because JR traded too much of the future.</div></div>
Ummm...highly, highly unlikely. The forwards protected are most likely Sid, Geno, Jake, Rust, Kappy as the guarantees and then most likely McCann and hopefully Blueger. Zucker should be exposed way before they even consider exposing McCann.

While Toronto needs a 3rd line centre. I mean you pick and chose at the value but it’s about addressing needs. It’s evident Pittsburgh<strong> needs a RHD</strong> and Toronto needs a 3rd line centre. You can add whatever prospects you like or whatever.
Again I’m just adressing Pits needs and Torontosz</div></div>
Just going to mildly disagree with you there. The Pens should try to sign Ceci if he is going to be affordable, if they can't sign him, they would be fine with Friedman and Ruh sharing the bottom spot. No need to trade McCann for a lesser piece and little incentive.

Big move and small moves READ DESCRIPTION
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueCanuck</b></div><div>Don't get why Zucker is left exposed, he's likely protected and not taken by Seattle.
You're simply not getting Tkachuk.
Ristolainen night cost a 3rd at full salary, retaining 50% might cost you a light project prospect but you've overpaid here.
McCann likely gets a NHL player back. Doubt Pittsburgh is looking for prospects and Toronto isn't looking to move Hallander - they targeted him since he was drafted and made him a priority to get in the Kapanen deal. You're not getting him back lightly</div></div>
Zucker is left exposed because at least 2 of Zucker, Matheson and Petterson have to go so that the Pens can be under the cap. Matheson isn't going anywhere unless the Pens pay (Hextall is not moving any high picks to get rid of him). Petterson has a slightly bloated contract, but as a top 4 D, that is still young, he has some trade value. It would be ideal to trade Zucker (without any money coming back) before expansion, but that is unlikely as his trade value seems to be very low at the moment, plus he has a 10 team no trade. So to summarize the most likely scenario is Zucker (expansion), Matheson (still a pen) and Petterson (traded).

I would say remove Jankowski (he won't be qualified, so likely available anyways, I think, not too sure about the rules) and change the picks to maybe a 2nd and a 5th and I'd do it as a Pens fan. I'm not too concerned with what the Pens paid for Zucker, because the cap space is what is needed.

so yall agree with this protection list or do you think Hextall gives Zucker away for nothing after paying a 1st and Addision for him.</div></div>
Hextall doesn't give a crap about what JR paid for Zucker. When Hextall came in, he should have been given a clean slate, where what the previous management paid for players didn't matter. The fact is the Pens can't afford Zucker, Matheson and Petterson. Zucker shouldn't be protected and Seattle will take one of these three. Pitt would have to pay for Seattle to take Matheson. Petterson probably has the best trade value as his contract doesn't look as bloated as Zuckers and top 4 LD are in slightly higher demand than a top 6 wing. Because of this and because Pitt doesn't really have anyone else to protect, I assume that they protect Petterson in that 3rd D spot and then trade him this summer. Or trade him before for someone that is exempt. The bigger question is whether Seattle would consider any of the BART line over Zucker, but the Pens will protect one of the three (hopefully Blueger).

Umm...you are sending a player that Pitt doesn't need and can't afford for two players that the Pens don't really have any interest in moving and a 2nd round pick (especially after Hextal and Burke have been adamant that they aren't moving top picks). Not to mention that Calgary would not even consider this for a second, Philly likely could do a lot better, Seattle probably doesn't want those players and Vanecek isn't likely going anywhere.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tj_gm</b></div><div>The Penguins are going to lose a good player in expansion. Assuming they protect their top 6 and go with 7-3-1 format: one of McCann, Carter, or Kappy is going to be claimed.</div></div>
Most likely the Pens are going to protect: Sid, Geno, Jake, Rust, Kappy, McCann, toss up (Tanev, ZAR, Blueger, Carter, maybe even Zucker), then they will protect Letang, Dumo and who the heck knows (Marino is safe, Matheson isn't getting picked, Petersson should be trade bait, no one else is really worth protecting.
So the Pens are most likely to lose Zucker, however one of the BART line players could be of interest (please not Teddy) or they may sweeten the pot for either Pettesson or Matheson.
I am pretty sure they are not worried about losing McCann at all.

Clearly you don't trade Marino without knowing Hamilton is coming. Critical thinking doesn't seem to be one of your strong suits.</div></div>
Whatever...I'll just let you go back to playing NHL 21 because that is the only way that Dougie is coming to Pitt. Hamilton has been allowed to talk to other teams recently and has there been a single reporter anywhere that has said that he has talked to Pitt? So why work in hypotheticals? Wouldn't it make more sense to try to work with something that is remotely realistic? I mean at least you aren't trading Crosby or Geno, but even then moving Marino is almost as likely.
The Pens are not moving Marino "period".

But...I think you are missing the part where the Pens have about a 0.05% chance of signing Dougie. I understand that moves would have to be made in order to sign Dougie, but making those moves without a guarantee would be stupid. Hamilton is likely going to be making about as much as Letang currently, so if you want him, you aren't just losing Marino. You also lose the flexibility to sign ZAR, Blueger and a vet goalie. The D was not the reason the Pens lost in the playoffs. I'm not even blaming Jarry (I'm pinning it mostly on the goalie coach). However a decent vet goalie (hopefully brings a coach with him two), can do a lot for Jarry's confidence and if Jarry fumbles, be there to pick up the slack.

No...the problem is after Dumo, Marino is the last defenseman that the Pens should be considering trading. If no matter how hard Hexy tries he can't trade Zucker, Matheson or Petterson and can't sweaten the pot enough for Seattle to take one, then maybe he might consider moving Marino, but it would be a last ditch effort to get cap compliant.

Bringing Talent Home
Not saying that the Bruins trade is good, but I am surprised that is the trade you are getting skewered for. The Pens trade is abysmal. First, Zucker does not fit with Geno and won't get any time with Sid, so he has to be moved for cap reasons, but that doesn't mean that he is a cap dump. Second, the Pens are not moving any high draft picks or prospects unless they are blown away by the offer, neither Kassian or Turris are worth a 2nd alone. Third, Edmonton is stuck with that Kassian contract, just accept that. Fourth, why would the Pens have any interest in Turris at all? He is not good enough offensively to play anywhere near the top 6 and he is nowhere near strong enough defensively to play in the bottom 6.
You claim that you looked at the other teams before making your trades, but it is clearly obvious that you didn't consider the Pens needs/wants at all. The Pens do not need almost $5M in players that are basically useless to them.
