You really have to be kidding on the Ottawa trade? So Ottawa receives Malkin who is clearly on his downward trajectory? Same for Rakell who has term left who might hit 35 major points for Batherson who is 25, and already has 47 points.... Chychrun who is a top 4 defenseman on virtually every team.... We're going to move him for the massively impressive P-O Joseph....I doubt anyone disagress with that move... lol. A pens 2nd round pick shouldn't even have to be thrown in if you ask my opinion because that is a major piece in a trade... my lord was that ever bad lol

How do you figure? L.A. has to be seeing a player who is being paid as a 1st line center.... providing 3rd line production. I'm not basing this off just my opinion.... Read some of these.... and I will definitely try and factor in that your assesment is likely more accurate.... rarely will you find a hockey fan that can hold a candle to Kings fans.... LMAO....

Read these articles and you might not think of my assessment as being that fsar fetched. He's among the least productive $8M players in the league. THE ONLY reason I'd consider P-L Dubois is because Norris needs a change of scenery and no one will give Ottawa the value they will need for him. L.A. is in the same boat. Best hope for both teams is to take on someone else's issue player for theirs and hope they can turn it around. If Norris didn't just have shoulder surgery? Not a chance if I'm Ottawa do I trade Norris for P-L Dubois, not without L.A. adding some major serious sweeteners.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>Ottawa accepts
1 + 2 + 3 is a very solid base.
Pageau at 2.5 AAV x 2 years is also good, brings experience and solid defensive play. Nice insurance policy to cover for Norris injury situation too.
Bolduc is 6'4 and only 23 y/o, never have enough D-men with size.
Wahlstrom is cheap and only 23 y/o, don't think he has much value left but would still be a better player than Kubalik was this season, for example. But with ZERO risks and cost.
There would be a lot to say about this but quickly, but Ottawa was relatively successful during that transition phase after being serious contenders for a decade (98-08). After the semi-rebuild on the fly in 2009, they made the playoffs 5 out of 8 seasons and won 3 rounds, almost made the SCF in 2017, which is much more than the Leafs did in 20 years, for example.
I say this because the way you word it is "thankfully we were finally able to fully rebuild"... but that doesn't account that we had terrible ownership and just as bad management. We did a lot more during "these years" than during the current rebuild. We don't even sniff the playoffs with Dorion's rebuild.
Disagree.</div></div>
There was no reference that during this stint, we also had coaches like Martin and Murray during these years. If you were to grade coaches out of 100? Martin Murray are well over the 70%. No one is going to convince me that DJ smith would even hit the 50% percentile. If Ottawa brings in a Gerard Gallant, Laviolette, or Quennville? I bet this team "as-is" makes the playoffs next year. Issue is, this is a young team that needs a training camp on how to put an actual system together and actually create an identity as a team. The players brought here to be the core is more than just fine. The coaching provided to these players has been utterly pathetic. Without many veterans who have tasted success in the lineup, it hasn't helped.

Why does Ottawa need him? Stutzle, Norris (if he's ready by training camp, Pinto, Greig, Girouc, and Kastelic, are all players that either do play center for us, or will. That is 6 centers. Replacing Norris for a whole year? Pageau isn't talented enough to play in Ottawa's top 6. Factor in that Ottawa could very well be picking in the top 5... Ottawa likely has this pick in the lineup come next season. Again no reason to spend assets on another aging, un-needed center to help the Isles recoup some cap space.

It would basically work out that you get Chychrun who is way better than Drysdale.... At least in the here and now for sure. Chychrun will bring back a 1st and top prospect from someone... It would be a solid package for a guy like Chychrun.

Nah he's 21 and basically a point per game player in Belleville without much in the way of offensive help. He's closer to a solid 2nd line LW than he is a 3rd and 4th liner. His checking isn't the greatest so he doesn't really project as a bottom 6 winger. But he has good hands, good size, and good speed. Truthfully I doubt Ottawa really wants to shop him, he will be in line for making the team next season, but for the right trade they might use him. But he is highly regarded in Ottawa especially by management.

Ottawa would likely only do it for a straight up 1 for 1 trade. Pinto is a dynamic 6'3 center who is excellent on draws, has been basically a point per game center this season, plays on both special teams groups. I honestly doubt Ottawa would do it. Plus Staios it sounds like, wants to go with Korpisalo for one more year. But if there was a deal to be had for Markstrom? I tghink a realistic trade would be;
TO OTTAWA; J. Markstrom
TO CALGARY; 2025 1st rounder, R. Jarventie (very solid prospect, Ottawa's best top 6 prospect in the system), and likely a 3rd round pick.

I used Drysdale, becdause this is his 2nd shoulder injury in as many years. With a 1st rounder Drysdale with his risk involved would be a solid 2nd piece. Ottawa needs a little skill on the RD side. Drysdale hasn't really developed as many had hoped to this point, but he's still a very solid prospect. I think it would be considered for sure

Yeah Ottawa won't be taking that deal. The best piece would be a solid 1st rounder, and that would have to be unprotected. Bolduc, & Wahlstrom are older prospects that don't look like much. Ottawa has no need for JGP... Even with salary retained. Ottawa for sure passes on this deal. Sucks for the Isles because they don't really have a lot to deal.... But need pure talent, but have a strong enough team to not be where you pick the elite talent in the draft. Ottawa was there for years until we went into complete rebuild.

Dude.... If you think Ottawa is taking $6M of cap hit off your hands for a player that has less than 30 points? Never going to happen. If Staios does give that a shot? It will only be because they deem Norris out for the entire season. If they did deem him out for the season, Philly is retaining $2M and throwing in a top prospect or 1st round pick. If you will recall the price Briere wanted for taking Joseph and his rwmaining contract on? They wanted a 1st rounder or Tyler Boucher who was a 1st rounder.... Joseph's cap hit is $3.25M... So come on lets be realistic here.... If Ottawa is taking on Johansson at $6M a season.... It's going to cost Philly an absolute fortune.

I thik there might be some wiggle room... But agree Norris won't go for a guy like Jenner for sure. But for instance L.A.? For a guy like P-L Dubois. The coach doesn't like him, he hasn't fit in well with the team and his stats are way down. Both players are in the $8M cap hit? Both could likely use a change of scenery? I mean L.A. might bulk at it and I will be okay with that. Guess I'm just saying there might be a GM that would attempt a move like that. But no one is going to give a player like Jenner for Norris in his current predicament for sure.

Offseason plan
Brannstrom can't be signed for $1M. He has to be qualified at $2.25M. Or they can take him to arbitration and the lowest amound I believe he can sign for is $1.75M and Ottawa would lose that arbitration. I like the idea of a player like Boone... but Columbus isn't giving him up unless there is a massive overpayement for him. Norris isn't an overpayment because of the injuries, and with Boqvist they likely won't want another smallish, okay-ish puck moving defenseman for the 3rd pairing. So I just think that trade is kinda off. I do however like where your head is at though in terms of team needs =)

Ottawa Overhaul
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BiasSensFan</b></div><div>I disagree, we make the goaltending better 10 fold, and Brodin is a type of player we need. Pairing him with Sanderson works perfectly, as one is defensive and the other isn't. We also get a better 4C, and in my opinion 4th line is better, along with the 3rd. The 2nd line is a slight downgrade, but is more balanced. And the LHD point is fair, but Sanderson has played right before, and I don't see why he couldn't adjust and pair with Brodin.</div></div>
Sanderson isn't an offensive defenseman....He's more of a defensive guy. Doesn't think the game offensively all that well. Defensively though he's great with his positioning and being able to use his feet. Brodin doesn't help our PP at all which needs to improve if we're to get better. Vegas (Pietrangelo), Col (Makar), TB (Hedman/Sergachev), Pit (Letang)..... See the pattern? You need a go-to offensive defenseman. Sanderson maxes out at 50 points. As it is we don't really have a top end offensive defenseman. Just outside of Zub we don't really have any good defenseman defensively either....

What kinda adds would Ottawa be looking for? I don’t think they’d get a Stankoven/Bourque, MAYBE Bischel but I think a bit of sweetening would have to come from Ottawa (or maybe downgrade the 1st to a 2nd) but even then I don’t think Dallas considers Bischel</div></div>
Well first Ottawa wouldn't take on Faksa.... as part of that package unless more was offered. I think the ask will be a 1st - top prospect - prospect/draft pick.... Mind you with Staios at the helm we're likely getting a 3rd and a 3rd in 2025..... lol

Sorry was busy the past couple of days.... Ottawa got owned, I truly believed Staios had more guts than that. But rumour has it Staios has a repuation for being very cautious. Safe is death.... Ottawa is in big trouble moving into the future. But I was definitely wrong, even with a NTC.... You risk losing a nothing asset like a 4th and bet on a guy like Tarasenko who has changed his agent 3 times this season trying to find a guy to find him the money and term he wanted. If you're a GM and you couldn't see that? He was never going to stay in Ottawa, he would be exactly where he was last offseason. The last sort of big name to find a home. I don't think Tarasenko would risk that and that's exactly where he'd be if he hunkered down and said Panthers or leave me in Ottawa..... I think by Friday he goes anywhere Ottawa would be willing to send him. Staios just has no spine.....sad to say but it's true.

Mantha has basically been a 4th line player the past couple of years.... decided to score a few goals to earn a contract. People see the character there. Mantha doesn't really play a playoff-style of game either,.. Tarasenko always produces, and look at Tarasenko's playoff stats.... The guy brings it, and he's physical and far more a leader than Mantha. Plus Tarasenko comes at a lower cap hit. Likely why Vegas passed, Ottawa wanted the 1st round pick.... Or they likely would've gone with the cvup champ and proven playoff performer.

Sens team
**** I had to double check it wasn't me that posted that. Definitely agree on the Chabot and Chych comparison. Chychrun.... I do love the guy I really do. But he's a chucker. As soon as the puck is on his stick he's dying to shoot it and everyone knows it now. He's not very creative with the puck but has a lethal shot from the point the team will desperately miss for sure. Hamonic likely gets bought out as it will only cost the team $366K for 2 seasons. The goaltending, I'm going to stay reserved about. Forsberg I move for whatever I can in the offseason or at the deadline if someone is desperate and I mean very desperate. Korpisalo I think put too much on himself coming here, becoming a #1.... The team defense in front of the goaltenders I think wore the goalies down mentally as well.
I would love to get a coach in here like Quennville, or my favourite, Gerard Gallant. Getting the right coach in here has to be priority one. Pond hockey for 4 years?? The coach will have his work cut out to get the bad habits out of some of the younger guy's games. I also agree we need to get a bit tougher in front of our net. Tyler Kleven for me has a spot on the team to lose come training camp. Guenette will be a fly in the ointment as well. He doesn't belong in the AHL. I could see him as our 4th defenseman in 2 years.
Lastly on Chychrun, I can see him as a top pairing guy with the right partner. He can play 25 minutes, but you don't want him being the anchor of the pairing if he is on the top defense pairing. But he'd be great for a guy like Doughty.... Get what I'm saying?

Yeah but he's not going to piegeon-hole himself.... So long as it's a solid chance to win he's fine. He said so himself, and didn't close the door on coming back next season. Yes Ottawa accepts a 2nd rounder and a prospect but that is without having to retain cap. If Ottawa is eating salary it will cost more than a 2nd. The 2nd and prospect is ONLY if you;re taking him and 100% of his contract. If Ottawa is eating 50% that 2nd definitely becomes a 1st especially with that pick so close to the end of the 1st round.
