2021-22 Offseason playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bird3</b></div><div>The Danault signing is pointless.</div></div>
No way man, he gives the canucks a solid third line. The canucks are top 6 heavy then they drop off which is why they struggle to win hockey games. Danault is elite defensively and can take matchup roles and play the PK. If Danualt is playing with podkolzin and Janmark it makes for a very good third line, possibly one of the best in the league. It also allows Horvat to get more offensive zone icetime instead of playing matchup roles.

I'm glad my trade inspired you jk
But real talk, I think the Laine trade is fair. My only thing is that Edler and haula may not come here for that low amount. Edler would probably want more. I do agree we need a 3C and to fix our defence.
I would contemplate paying Seattle to take Myers to free up 6 mil to target 2 defensive free agents then get a center.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redw1n9s</b></div><div>I understand English perfectly well, which is why what you said made no sense. Everyone thinks their teams' prospects are "studs" but more often than not they are not. In fact, usually they are not even close. Pod is barely an NHL caliber player right now. Hoglander is decent, at best. You haven't even touched upon the lackluster D. As I've said, this team is in no position to be giving up multiple 1sts.
You're clearly out of your element here.</div></div>
Podkolzin could have played in the canucks bottom 6 this year. He has a great defensive game that allows him to be at minimum a bottom 6 player. Its whether or not his offensive game develops that will signify if he can be a top 6 forward. His current production in the playoffs gives hope as he's still not getting a ton of ice time. But he's showing he can put up numbers in limited minutes.
Hoglander has produced at a 3rd line level this year which is fairly good considering he has been in matchup roles with horvat and Pearson against the top lines in hockey. His defensive zone time is about 55% due to this. If he gets more offensive zone time I can see him progressing with a higher production rate.
As to the defense, Juolevi is very good defensively. He was kept out of the lineup because green likes a veteran presence but Juolevi is phenomenal at passing the puck out of the zone. He has the tools to be a top 4 defenceman. He was another player getting mostly defensive zone ice time, and he actually formed a solid pairing with Myers who is terrible defensively.
As for rathbone, you may not be aware of him? But a quick scouting report and history on him is that he has good upside. His strengths are his skating and playmaking. He dominated in college by putting up just over a ppg, and currently that offence has transferred to the AHL where he's put up 9 points in 8 AHL games. He dominated the games too, he's not a floater, he had 7 shots on goal last game. He has good offensive instincts and so far he's also showing that he can be a force defensively as well. Not a physical player but relies on his positioning to retrieve pucks.
Im very knowledgeable on prospects. In fact I'm very knowledgeable on some wings prospects too If u ever wanna talk prospects.
With another top 10 pick this year the canucks will have all the youth they need. Its about filling in the gaps after that.

Tbh I don't think they'll get that because Laine is underperforming and he's very 1 dimensional. Maybe if another center becomes available but otherwise i think they should commit to the rebuild and take prospects and picks

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redw1n9s</b></div><div>"would have drafted a stud in 2020"...what does that mean? I think they are much farther way than that - after the first line it's pretty weak and the D core is suspect, at best. Not to mention they're basically at the cap</div></div>
Do you not understand English? After the canucks 2021 draft they will most likely draft another top 10 pick. By that time they need to be adding to their roster and this move does that.
The only reason you think the canucks are farther away is because you aren't knowledgeable with the prospects and players on their team. Miller Petey Boeser horvat hoglander podkolzin are all good. Not to mention if u put Miller at 3C and spread out the depth the team can be much better.
In regards to the cap, I made it work with realistic contracts. I used comparables like Mcavoy and barzal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redw1n9s</b></div><div>Using "comparables" for trades makes close to no sense...every trade is different. VAN is in no position to be giving up 1st rounders (especially not 2), WSH is.</div></div>
Actually I think this trade makes sense for Vancouver. They're a top 6 winger and top 4 defender away from competing. Laine fills one of those gaps, and you hope either Juolevi or rathbone can eventually fill it too. Not to mention the canucks would have drafted a stud in the first round in 2020.
This trade makes perfect sense as Laine is similar age to the core and has played with Juolevi before so it adds cohesion.
Canucks will also have a better schedule next season and play in an easier division (pacific), this is a great move. Also using comparables makes complete sense...

A little light on the Pettersson and Hughes contracts. Need at least $1M more there.
Don't like that D at all.</div></div>
I disagree on the petey and hughes contracts. Barzal got 7 for 3 years, why should petey get more if he hasnt proved himself to be a ppg player yet? Hughes i did similar to the McAvoy bridge contract but added a little bit.
Its going to be hard to upgrade the D considering there arent many options available in free agency, but i agree.

Its better than ****ting the bed which is what they're currently doing. They literally stacked up this last off season and sit second to last in their division which is pathetic. They need to rebuild while their assets have value. If u wait, u may end up like the canucks who took forever to rebuild cuz they wanted to stay competitive for the sedins.

I wouldn't look too far at his production, the whole canucks roster is struggling but he's a good player. He's def the type of player u want in playoffs
