Pacioretty
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jp_harvey</b></div><div>Habs fan here. I can see that trade happening with a little tweak. Pacioretty (2.25M$ retained or 50%) + MTL 6th round pick '20 for R.Strome + K.Maksimov + EDM 1st round pick '19.
Just the fact that a team is willing to retain salary raise the value of the player in the trade. I think Habs add the late pick combined with the retained salary and EDM drops the 3rd pick and make the first round pick not conditonnal. Gives EDM more options ($$) to add at the deadline.
Nice deal for both sides. What do you guys think?</div></div>
Not worth it if its unknown if hes willing to resign, I think MTL would be happy getting Strome, Makimov, 2nd, 3rd. If he resigns then the the 2nd turns into a first. Added bonus for MTL if he resigns, all while MTL is still getting a good return, and protection for EDM if he doesnt resign

MTL would you do it?
I wouldn't do that trade, his next contract asking price is too high. Would be better to let MTL lose him for nothing. And likely wont sign an extension, so your losing a 1st for 1 year of him possibly being a 40 goal scorer.

Possible Trade Scenario. What do you think
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IgorKutchakokov</b></div><div>From outsiders perspective - Carolina trade comes down to whether 1. Carolina wants a proven player vs. stockpiling of prospects and 2. Are Oilers willing to eat salary for the next 5 years when they give up Lucic. I think Carolina could take him and flip him with a more reasonable $4mil cap hit as a result of this trade for picks/prospects but tend to think cap space is too valuable to the Oilers to retain that much.</div></div>
Agreed, In the trade agreement I added that if Car trades Lucic there will not be anymore salary retention from the Oilers

What Edmonton Should Do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>He does not have speed. He only looks like he has some speed because outside of McDavid, the oilers have zero speed. That's why they were so bad last year, they just can't keep up. (i know McDavid isn't the only decent skater on the team, they have some others but they are not at all fast, they are big and slow on the bottom 6 and just not at all talented. )</div></div>
JJ had a career year, Strome put up 34 points and a 3rd line center, Camo put up 29 point playing on the 4th line, making 1 mill per. There bottom 6 is decent, what plagued the team was their inablity to play a consistent game. Milan has speed. This highlight shows this. Again his willingness to use it always is the problem. He isn't the fastest player on the team but he has speed.

Lucic isnt slow, his problem is he is disengaged, if you watch Oiler highlights the big man has speed, he just doesnt seem like he wants to use it often and that is the problem

What would it take? Draisaitl trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arousedcat</b></div><div>Larsson is almost 26, not 24... He's 25 years and 236 days old according to hockeyreference... Spurgeon may be undersized but don't let that fool you. He's a top D-man in the league. I can see how the Oilers wouldn't want Staal, though, since he's old.
A frequent poster here <a href="/users/MNBassman" target="_blank">@MNBassman</a> posted this article on a thread a few days ago if you aren't convinced on Spurgeon's skill.
<a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/definitive-ranking-nhls-top-23-defencemen-three-seasons/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/definitive-ranking-nhls-top-23-defencemen-three-seasons/</a></div></div>
I didnt say that Spurgeon didnt have skill. But with the term he has and age, Larsson will be a very similar player at the same age. Oilers lost the Larsson/Hall trade, no question but in 16/17 Larsson was a beast and a legit Top pairing D. Oilers hang on to him. So lets remove Larsson/Spuregon out of the equation. So Draisaitl for Staal? Theres no player on MIN team right now that is worth Leon Draisaitl.

What are you guys smoking? Draisaitl is 1C on 80% of the teams in the league, and hes 22, Larsson is 24 year shut down D with a very attractive cap hit. And you guys think fair value is Stall a 33 year old declining center and Spurgeon a 28 year old undersized D with a 5.1 mill cap hit? LOL

EDM and MTL trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CanesQue</b></div><div>I’m not debating that he had a horrible year, on both sides of the puck. But he is a 26 RHD, (e-time all star and Olympian) that scores more goals than the average off defenseman in the league. That has a lot of value in the NHL. Now you might not like the trade but we both know that there are GMs willing to pay it. He’s certainly due a bounce back year and he and Sekera have enormous chemistry. Pairing them together again would likely restart both of their careers.</div></div>
Yes he does score goals, but this is not just a one off comment for Faulk, this has been said about his game for years. His game has also been on the decline. He is young and that can change, but I find it hard pressed to think that GM's will be willing to part with a 1st for Faulk. Shattenkirk was traded for a 1st and 2 prospects at the peak of his trade value, Jones and a second is fair value for Faulk

EDM and MTL trades
This is whats being said about Justin Faulk:
Carolina has had some questionable goaltending over the years (save 2013 and 2015). If they just received average goaltending over this timeframe, they would have been about 75 goals better – and that’s substantial.
But Faulk’s numbers are even worse. Faulk’s on-ice save percentage is 90.7. That means that in the minutes Faulk has been on the ice, Carolina is 52 goals worse than league average and 27 goals worse than what Carolina could have reasonably expected with their goaltending talent.
About that 90.7 save percentage: It’s the worst number of any defender in the past six years, true by a considerable margin
Edmonton is not giving up a 1st for him.

Strome and Nurse signed 2
If Strome is getting 3.1, Nurse will be getting close to 3.75 for his bridge deal. Oilers have 4.8 mill in cap space left, they could sign him long term with a Klefbom cap hit, and still be under cap, barely...

He moved back to center position and played well there and remained there the rest of the season. In 3 years Edmonton will have the cap space they need, players coming off the books, and Strome is signed for only 2 years.

That Strome signing was a terrible move by the Oilers. God bless you Chiarelli.</div></div>
The Strome signing is basically on par with what teams are paying for much older 3rd line centers, hes 24 and a right shot. How do you see this as terrible? He put up 34 points on a new time, not playing his natural position, and excelled in the last quarter of the season play center.
