Équipe: 2018-19 Oilers d'Edmonton
Date de création initiale: 9 juill. 2018
Publié: 9 juill. 2018
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
They have limited Assets and have drafted terribly over the years. They need to clear out their entire hockey operations department and find a team President with the vision and clout to make smart long term changes for a proper build. (Edmonton needs its own Shanahan)

I'm not sure that's enough to pry Gardiner away from Toronto. Considering they have absolutely zero defense, it's going to take a lot more than two 2nd's for Jake, especially after a career year. Someone will be able to beat that price in a heartbeat.

Hard no from Vancouver. We already have "toughness" with Beagle, Schaller and Rousel. We don't need Lucic.

Erikson is more serviceable than Lucic and has 1 less year on his contract. Lucic too slow for the team.

BTW, i doubt he would waive NTC for Vancouver.

Instead of a fourth round pick in that MTL trade can I interest you in a Jordie Benn?

Nah, he's not worth more than that. He's a very good transitional defenceman who provides a lot of offence, but he's not good in his own end so that limits his value.

Fair enough, still I would move Lucic for almost anything it took. He's slow and has no place on the top 6 of this team. My point here is more to find ways to improve the team.

Lucic isnt slow, his problem is he is disengaged, if you watch Oiler highlights the big man has speed, he just doesnt seem like he wants to use it often and that is the problem

He does not have speed. He only looks like he has some speed because outside of McDavid, the oilers have zero speed. That's why they were so bad last year, they just can't keep up. (i know McDavid isn't the only decent skater on the team, they have some others but they are not at all fast, they are big and slow on the bottom 6 and just not at all talented. )

JJ had a career year, Strome put up 34 points and a 3rd line center, Camo put up 29 point playing on the 4th line, making 1 mill per. There bottom 6 is decent, what plagued the team was their inablity to play a consistent game. Milan has speed. This highlight shows this. Again his willingness to use it always is the problem. He isn't the fastest player on the team but he has speed.

No offense but you are way off in most of your comments about the Oil. First since PC took over and brought in Gretzky for scouting, the drafting and stock piling young assets has been great. This has been a the biggest blemish with rhe team for a decade and its finally looking up.

Has there been some bad trades and signings? For sure...not everyone can be Steve yzerman. Saying that id do the hall for larsson trade everyday to get rid of that clown.

Last Lucic does have speed for a big guy. Everyone looks slow with McDavid next to them. He had a bad half a season, who cares. It happens. He has great hockey sense, really good hands and usually money on first passes.

There is no speed in that video at all, he only looks like he's fast because everyone else is coasting. His speed is in the 70's and the average for NHLers is in the 80's. He's slow and that's why he looks so bad. Kadri is now a 3rd line centre and he's scored 30 goals the past two seasons. Strome is a marginal NHLer and isn't very fast. There bottom 6 isn't good enough and outside of McDavid, you lack consistent offence. Also the defence isn't very mobile either. There are big problems with Edmonton and they'll have to find a lot of talent they don't have to improve.

That clown? Hall and McDavid would have been insane together and Larson is just a solid right hander. That trade was terrible. No point in sugar coating it, all that does is open the door for your GM to make other stupid moves.

So when did the Oilers start drafting well? This past summer? If you look at the history of their drafting, 2011 is the last time they've managed to get 2 decent NHLers out of the same draft. They've been okay in the 1st round and have nothing to show for themselves in any other round since 2011. That is terrible drafting.

Here is all the homework you need, Edmonton wasn't a good team last year. The reason being, they looked slow outside of McDavid, they couldn't score much outside of McDavid and Talbot was average.

How do they improve on that? Well they need to be faster, but that's tough because they just don't have many fast guys in their system that look like real NHLers. They need to score more but they need more talent to do that. And they need a better season from Talbot, which I think will happen.

Edmonton will improve but they need to do a lot of work to get the depth you need to be an elite team.

Edmonton needs fast skilled wingers and those two guys are both fast skilled wingers. Looking back on that, yeah I think I should have included someone better than Byron but still if Edmonton can turn Nuge into 2 fast skilled wingers making a combined 6 million, and get a 2nd rounder as well, that is a move the Oilers should make.

Their problem is they have almost no talent beyond their top 2 lines and very little speed. They are going to have to either be patient or really smart with their moves to improve.
