<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>Doesn't make my statement wrong that he played with some future HOFer's does it? Nope.
Btw defensively Backes is better than Loui. Backes has finished top 5 in Selke voting 4 times in his career and runner up once. Loui had never finished better than 23rd in selke voting.
Ask a GM who they rather have and majority (if not all) are taking Backes.</div></div>
I don't like this trade for the Bruins either, mostly because of term, but Loui Eriksson with one arm and a bad flu is better defensively than Backes. He's one of the best defensive wingers the league has seen in the last two decades.

Pens 2021 EI
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksFanForLife</b></div><div>This team reminds me of last years Blackhawks, except slightly better. Too many old players, decent number of young studs like Hallander, Olund, Bellerive, Addison, Bjorkqvist, etc., but nobody in between. Guentzel and Murray will be carrying the team by this time. I’m looking at this year as the last or second last year of actually contending. Though I struggle to believe that they’ll be able to win a cup in the next decade with Tampa and Toronto in their conference.</div></div>
This is TB last chance. They will have such cap issues next year the team will fall apart. Not to mention the fact that they aren't exactly young. Their players are creeping up on 30 too.
Toronto is a different matter. They remind me of the 2010 penguins at this point. Those big contracts are coming in and that's it for all the extra help they have got along the way. They have to do it themselves now. It's a lot harder to win cups when you have no depth because your cap is heavily weighted. This is really their last year of having a really great shot. After that the trouble begins.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksFanForLife</b></div><div></div></div>
I'm honored you would ask. I'm too casual of a fan to really know... but my impression is that Priskie, the 1.28 p/gp college kid they still somehow haven't signed yet is more tradeable than their top scoring AHL defenseman, Hobbs, or the 2nd round pick they signed in his draft summer, Fehervary? If they're not even ready to sign Priskie, trading him for a rental, and letting him go be successful with a team that sees his potential could be a win-win deal.
They don't have cap space for it, though, without adding another B prospect for retention on Edler.... I mean, unless they're going to be super-cautious and put Niskanen on LTIR with a little bump.
Edit: if they're adding Hutton, and if they're reasonably confident they can Q.O. him for a couple years, then I think that would reduce Fehervary's odds of making this particular club for long enough to make him tradeable, too, but that's way above my non-existent pay grade. I assume Hobbs' AHL points make him a more likely playoff call-up, in the event of many, many injuries, even if I wouldn't put it past them to just go with Ness, for familiarity's sake.

Point discount for Stralman
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksFanForLife</b></div><div>The key difference is that Kuch’s contract was his “big” contract, or his first UFA/post-bridge deal. Point’s contract is a post-ELC, which is always less. RFA contracts are always less than open market deals. And extensions are early UFA contracts. Which is why players like to hit the open market in the 27-30 age range when they can command a much bigger contract.</div></div>
Kuch was still an RFA after that last deal, you know that right? He did have arbitration rights, but he was still an RFA. I get what you're saying, I do, but the League is transitioning towards huge contracts right off ELCs. McDavid at 12.5 Eichel at 10, Ekblad at 7.5. 10 years ago guys didn't get their massive contract until they were older and had "earned it", but now they seem to get them right after their ELC. If Eichel was worth 10 million 2 years ago when he signed, Point has got to be worth at least that much. Centers come at a premium price. I could see them getting him to take a big discount at 9 million over 8 years, or maybe they go for a 6 year deal at 7.5 million. Just my personal opinion though, not trying to start anything. I absolutely understand where you're coming from

Point discount for Stralman
I'm thinking the same way you are. I think your offer Point is in the right ballpark of what will happen. Maybe more, maybe less, we don't know but I think its a great guess. Also agree on Callahan. I would kill 2 birds with one stone. I would trade one of my top 6 forwards that make $4-6M per yr and possible throw in a RFA rights to Erne OR Paquette (not both) to sweeten the deal to Take on Callahan's contract. I don't think we can resign both RFA's so that is why I would throw one in. (I made a previous team/post about a callahan trade/buyout/resign him cheaper options too.) With Johnson, Palat, Killorn, & Gourde all having NTC... Miller is the odd man out with a modified NTC so he goes to trade Cally is my guess. That frees up over $10M. On straws, I agree we should resign him but I don't we can that cheap. He's 32, I don't like the idea of having over 35 yrs old dman but I think offering him a 3-4 yr deal gets it done for him. Example a $3M x 3yrs gives Strals $9m to stay on a great team he likes and I think he would sign that. Cernak covers the lose of Girardi. Foote might be ready for the NHL next yr too. He is tearing it up lately (3 goals in 2 games.) If Foote isn't ready, than Serg can cover the right sode again and Koekkoek covers the lose of Coburn. Anyways... great post. I am right with your thinking, we will see what JBB does :)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksFanForLife</b></div><div>Yeah, that is his rankings among top six dmen. So he hits the top 90 in every category, which is a 3rd D on an average team and a 4th D on a stacked team. Yeah, his numbers this year are better than any AHL or NHL year that he's had before. He was a 15-20 point dman last year and only played in half the games. He's been given a much bigger role this year and has become the high second round pick that he was. So his value is more like Bracco, Brown, and a fourth.</div></div>
If he's a legit top-4 guy I would be happy to over-pay for salary retention as well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NucksFanForLife</b></div><div>You can totally afford it, so I’d add a third or fourth to the Carolina deal to sweeten things up as they drafted Fleury pretty high, and they think highly of him. Hudon and a third gets it done. It does go without saying that there are a ton of prospects that will be trying to make the team. Evans, Suzuki, Poehling, Fleury, Brook, Ylonen, and Ikonen. Training camp and the preseason should redefine the bottom line at least.</div></div>
I was focusing more on the trade but I agree, u can always put Shaw on the 4th line and have Suzuki with Drouin and Domi. I've got no problem with trading the rights for Armia to give Poehling or Evans a slot either. Delauriaus and Peca can be replaced too. The options are there

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Why do you think that Dubas hasn't been able to go out and steal players like you suggest? Because the actual cost of these guys is more than "Middling prospects", So/so dmen with "Cost certainty" and low draft picks. We can sit here all day and argue over the value of players like Montour or Manson or Parayko or Pietrangelo, but the fact is, none of these guys are being sent to Toronto for AHL players with low ceilings, or it would have happened already.</div></div>
Who suggested he can go and steal players? My point from the get go has been that the cost of defenceman, at least on here, is prohibitive. I am not overspending on something just because the media says its a huge problem. TO is a top team in the league. Will they win the cup? I don't know, but its definitely possible with the lineup they have. Would they improve if they can? Sure, why wouldn't they? But will they do that at any cost? I certainly hope not. I have no desire for most of the bigger name trades people are suggesting TO should do. Parayko, Pietrangelo, Manson, Montour, etc, will all cost more than they are worth, so I wouldn't waste resources that will be needed at other times of the Leafs window. They are still climbing the ladder, they aren't in danger of falling off yet.

I was being nice to the Leafs for suggesting that cost. Good grief, Montour is even a top 30 defenseman on the PK! What more could you ask for?</div></div>
I don't think you really understand how good Sandin or Liljegren will be. Sandin is already making an impact in the AHL. Liljegren was ranked really high in his draft year but because of injuries so he droped, he as well is doing unreal in the AHL and both of the young d-men will have a chance to play with the Leafs next year.
Zaitsev doesn't have a big cap hit. He is locked where as Montour has only two years. Montour will ask 5+ million and Toronto can't afford that long term.
All that to say that for what you think Montour is worth, Toronto could get a lot more. Don't get me wrong, Montour is a great defencemen and he's only what 22? I think you guys would benefit more out of him having the chemistry built with your d-men. I do appreciate the thoughts and wanting to know if the trade could work.

If, like me, you believe that Manson is the easier target to acquire from ANA, if it were between Montour and Manson, I'd say the Leafs should go after Manson. Either way, ANA is kind of an odd team to predict this season. Hampered by a ton of injuries, yet are still doing reasonably well. Considering that they just extended Bob Murray, I doubt there would be any sort of fire sale, and if the Ducks remain in the playoff picture in the next month or so, I doubt either defenseman will be available.

Why would the Ducks move Montour unless they were getting something of substance for him? A late 2nd isn't much, nor are the late 3rd or late 7th. However you want to spin it, Zaitsev's contract is going to be a problem for you if you want to upgrade on the back end. Therefore: Zaitsev is a cap dump. You want to get rid of his contract, you'll have to give up something of substance. Pretty easy concept. Montour is a legitimate top 4 dman, he's right handed, he's young, and he's controlled for the next few year. You honestly don't think you'd have to give up one of your top prospects to get him?

Honestly I don’t think senyshyn plays more than 50 games in the nhl. He could very easily prove me wrong, but right now he’s supposed to be a sniper that can’t manage a half point per game in the ahl. I see all the tools, just no toolbox.

I do think we haven't seen enough out of Pu yet to trade him yet.
