what is holding up the Laine trade
if part of kuzy's contract was retained and a 3rd/4th round pick was added, i could see this happening

Maybe i'm biased but i think kuzy could get traded for good assets if part of his salary gets retained. He used to be a 70+ point scorer consistently but since the coaching changes and his back injury earlier this year he hasn't looked like himself. I think the caps could get a good replacement for kuzy if they retain 20%-40% of his salary in the trade. basically, i think a 3rd rounder for kuzy is far too little.

I tried to only sign players in UFA that i thought the teams wouldn't extend just to be fair. So i passed up on players like gostisbehere and stamkos i decided not to sign.

He's just starting to heat up and is looking like *potentially* a elite starting goaltender.

ovi isnt producing much and is having trouble with his amount of scoring chances. Having a notable playmaker on the first line again could really help out since backstrom is gone and kuzy is not having good season. Huberdeau can be the playmaker we need which he has proven in past seasons with florida. We also have the cap space to except him if we did trade oshie

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SJSF</b></div><div>I agree that they should trade him, me saying they could let him walk is definitely dumb, I shouldn't exaggerate like that, I just haven't seen many people thinking he'll get the value he should as a Vezina winner "because he plays in front of Boston's D". TBH I hope they try to convince them both to retain the tandem and pay their goalies around 12-14 mil combined with the cap going up, but they probably each still want to get the starters share of games and that would be bad cap management</div></div>
It would be great if boston kept both swaymen and ullmark but i dont think it's very realistic.

when i brought in hubys contract i had like 11 mil in cap space and came out of the trade with 5 mil. His contract is terrible but hes still got lots of potential to get back to that elite level he used to be at.
To address the provorov trade, it's a W trade. Idk how you don't like it. We get a really good defenseman with 17 points this season with 1.1 mil retained at the cost of sandin who has 6 points and a 0+/-.
The LA trade is a W trade as well. We get a great up and coming rookie and they get kuzy with 2.3 retained and 2 first round picks. The trade makes much more sense when you think about it a bit more.

They are not trading Ullmark in season for downgrade in net, 3rd liner, and meh futures. Its stupid.
Only way they move Ullmark in season is a lopsided trade in their favor for a long term NHL asset that plays in the top half of the roster and fills a need.
Otherwise they wait til offseason. They can get meh futures and mid roster talent anytime.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SJSF</b></div><div>The value for Kuemper is good but they can pay less than half his remaining salary with Bussi, who they appear high on atm. They have tons of players that can fill in bottom six roles like Milano (I'd much prefer Heinen there at a similar rate) so essentially the only thing they're getting of actual value is a 2nd. That isn't an offer they can't refuse. They don't have to trade a goalie this Summer, or at all for that matter. They have 28 mil in cap this offseason with sways extension taking up 3 mil of that. They could just let Ullmark walk next offseason if the best they're getting is a 2nd and parts they don't need. Take his 5 million and spend elsewhere</div></div>
they're not gonna let ullmark walk, he has to much trade value for that. They dont need to trade either of their goaltenders now but it'll be the best choice IMO.:tearsofjoy

I would disagree, we come out of all these trades as a much better and deeper team, younger as well. The only thing that's "shooting us in the foot" is how much draft capital i gave up, which was justified by picking up younger and better pieces.

i think it's a very fair offer. boston's getting kuemper, a good starting goaltender and stanley cup champ for only 3 mil as well as a good depth player to pad out their bottom six and a 2nd round pick. It's only a matter of time before one of bostons goaltenders get traded and current swayman's doing better than ullmark.

Idk, i think this deal would be too good for boston to deny. Its a fact that boston's going to trade one of their goaltenders at some point and currently swayman is doing far better than ulmark with the same amount of games played. I think getting kuemper with almost half of his contract retained and a good depth player in milano as well as a second will be more than enough.

Petey is not in a "I don't want to resign" they are talking, but are focused on winning.
Kuzy would not even make our top 2 center spots, I honestly think they'd put Suter as our 2C behind Miller. Due to the defensive blackhole that Kuzy is.</div></div>
Thank you:tearsofjoy Although, I would say that i think kuzy would fit in great in vancouver. He is on a bit of a slump and his defensive play hasnt been great as of recent but we've also got to factor in the coaching changes, off the ice challenges and being injured the past couple of seasons. He's proven that he can produce and play an important role on good caps teams.
And on the topic of EP40, He has been vague on his intentions with vancouver but i do think he'll most likely resign with the canucks, although I do also think that in the chance he doesn't resign this could be a very possible trade because there aren't really any notable top 6 centers on the market right now other than kuzy.
just having fun

I think kuzy with 20% retained, Cristall and tons of draft capital is enough to sign a superstar center who's hesitant to sign an extension. They either trade pettersson or they sign him and he doesn't seem to be willing to resign with the canucks. So when the deadline comes, i could see this being a very acceptable offer for the canucks.

yeah but i could see this happening at or before the trade deadline if pettersson doesn't resign. This is because i really dont see the canucks letting him walk in free agency this offseason. They've either got to trade him or resign him before the trade deadline so they can get a good price.

One Final Caps Playmaker Trade
Alright, This is the final capitals playmaker trade for now. I retained 20% of kuzy's salary and added a really good prospect in the form of Cristall as well as adding a lot of draft capital. I think this is a little overboard though. Pettersson's contract ends this year and is not that much less than kuzy's who's ends in 2 years. if y'all think this is fair or not fair please just be nice about it. We're all hockey fans here, we dont have to be jerks:(

Get that through your head. If Washington was serious about getting EP40.
And Kuzy has to be involved, he has to have at least 2.8m retained to start. And then any quantity of this that equals to 3 or 4 first round picks(if EP40 has a sign and trade): Andrew Cristall, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Vincent Iorio, 1st rounders in (24/25/26), 2nd rounders(25/26)</div></div>
Alright, You've made good points I'll do one last updated trade proposal.

Don't fool yourself thinking this is anything close to fair.</div></div>
their contracts are pretty comparable, there's only a 450,000 dollar difference and if pettersson decides not to resign i could see this being a very possible trade. Although i would say, I've redone the trade and added more picks and a good goalie prospect to make it more fair. You should check that trade out because i think it's better than this proposal.
