If habs draft 5 OVR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>I think with the amount of time spent getting ready for the draft, if your guy is on the board, you grab him.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeneralLandro</b></div><div>I think this is the correct answer to the proposal but I almost like it’s a real interesting idea
Makes it even easier for Pat to trade up to draft MBN as well</div></div>
Sure - but sometimes - lets say you rate Levshunov a 90, and Parekh a 87/88 - then, getting a extra first and a yound D to end up with Parekh is not bad business.
Or, depending on the interviews - a player might score a 90 in skill - but he doesn't fit the team culture, then 87 may become more attractive (Imo, that what I think happened when the habs selected Reinbacher and they let Michkov slip to 7th)

If habs draft 5 OVR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>It's an interesting proposal, and it really comes down to who we're looking at and where they're expected to go. Leshunov is top 2-3 on almost every trade board, bit I've seen some with Parekh going top 5 with Yamechuk outside the top 10, and some with Yamechuk going top 5, and Parekh outside the top 10.
Assuming we'd be happy with one of those three, it might be a gamble worth taking, but I might want a more usable player like Kovacevic instead of Barron, as I don't see Barron as a fit with the Ducks who have no need for his offensive abilities.
I'd also imagine this doesn't happen until after the lottery, in case that wasn't obvious.</div></div>
No problem, It can easily be Kovacevic.
and yes - after lottery where CHI and SJS stay in the top 2.

I still think CLB are more likely to take a forward.

Intersting Idea Trade next year might work on defense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Value seems fine to me.....BUT since MTL is trading with the Leafs, there's that small internal part of me that wants to say no lol
Not to mention if Barron hits (which is still very much a possibility), it would be a very painful trade considering MTL just gets a late 1st and a meh prospect... If Barron were to hit with, let's say, a west coast team, not a big deal, congrats to Barron, MTL can move on. But with the Leafs.. habs would be reminded of it for the next decade.... no thanks to that.</div></div>
Also, In term of organisational depth - I doubt habs can afford to trade two RHD in one trade... we have LHD available.. but Mailloux and Reinbacher are likely 1 or 2 season out before making the Jump.

Value wise -probably - the problem is that we would be down to 2 NHL RHD in the line-up. So for that reason, I doubt they part with Kovy just yet... maybe at TD if Mailloux can make the jump.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I think the hangup is just the price. You've just got a pick swap (let's assume 4OA for 6OA) for Justin Barron, a guy who's at best our 5th RD. I'm all for trading back in that situation if we're viewing Catton, Iginla, Lindstrom, etc. as essentially equal, but I think that costs MTL at least their 2nd rounder this year, not just a depth defenseman.
If it's 4OA for 6OA and the WPG 1st, then yeah, that's a no brainer. No player inclusion necessary.</div></div>
You are right - the worst part, is that I was convinced that I had added WPG's first already LOL.
Yeah - it would most likely involve another pick.
I think the habs are likely to try to GARANTY Lindstrom/Demidov - and the price could even include CAL's 2025 first round pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SK101</b></div><div>Why are the jackets trading down for a RD that won’t make even make the team? The jackets will just draft lindstrom themselves. Value wise you need to include the jets first but I still don’t think the jackets do it unless lindstrom, levshunov, or demidov are all off the board</div></div>
Well clearly if the Jacket see Lindstrom as the absolute BPA at 4th and not comparable to the others... then sure... it's not happening.
But if they like him... but they also like Catton, Iginla or any other D... then getting an extra first, a nice RHD prospect (could also be a LHD like Harris or Struble) to help them make the choice could be a no-brainer.

That's an expansive package the habs won't do.
We are better off drafting a forward with the 5-6 OVR, then trading up with our assets to get another forward in the top 15.

It a fair point, however if you look at the longterm outlook tab, you can see that the following year, the habs will have 30M$ in cap space to sign them.
I expect Slaf to get something like Caufield’s deal and that they will bridge Guhle.
As for the reason to pick up Stamkos - I think <a href="/users/F50marco" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@F50marco</a> sums it up quite well!
You want that vet presence in the locker room… and so far our vets seem to play on the bottom 6.
Let’s splurge on the old rockstar - we can afford it.

And Vinny Lecavalier working in the org.
His tax residence will likely remain in Florida but 42/365th of his revenu will be taxed under Quebec %. He won't be domiciled in Quebec.
Maybe he wants to experience the passion of playing for MTL, where a regular saturday night win is celebrated harder than all of Tampa's cup combined.

Trying to merge both discussions, I'll say that a 1st rd pick would serve better trying to get a better asset. but a Evans + 2nd (and you could add other depth pieces) seems justifiable to me.</div></div>
Evans and a 2nd would be a Great price to pay TBH - I'm just expecting Vegas to ask for the first.
