I mean NJ was great this year, and were largely let down by poor goaltending when they were losing games. A proper elite goaltender makes a big difference.

He got Kane and Tarasenko without extensions in place. NY is a very aggressive buyer, they’re doing whatever it takes to win and worrying about extensions later, Meanwhile Habs have 0 reason to make a big move because 1 they don’t really have those assets that should be burned and 2 they know he’s coming anyways

Canucks already turned down a trade involving multiple high picks for Moller. They are only willing to trade him if they can get a replacement who is 25 or under…. Cap dumps have nothing to do with a rebuild or not…. Every team does them if they need cap space….. maybe do some actual research</div></div>
Even a retool opens up a lot of space. Hell moving garland here on its own opens up room, would you look at that, a wing spot. Team may have turned down trades on Miller at the deadline, but those rumours still come out from time to time. Retool takes a year or two so…

Vanecek has one extra year and is nowhere near as good. Devils would be trying to lock up the man instantly too, and he probably would given they’re a playoff team

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>The cost of retaining that much for 3 years is likely a 2nd or 1st round pick. Nobody is retaining for 3 years willingly. Canucks have made it abundantly clear that they are not rebuilding</div></div>
Abundantly clear they are not rebuilding yet reports about a Miller trade are still floating around? And Garland and Ekman Larsson cap dumps floating too. You can make the value more if you want, but regardless that’s the base for the trade. Any team that knows they’re going through a long rebuild and need that cap space won’t have much of a problem to need a first to retain a million. Arizona willingly takes on money so they can go cheaper. Hell, Minnesota was giving people prospects at the deadline to retain, and they were competing still

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyIsMyPassion61</b></div><div>Minnesota doesn't have the cap space for Mark Scheifele, He grew up a Wings fan. I could see him waiving for Detroit rather than Minnesota.
Detroit is like Winnipeg, Neither team needs LD but RD. So Detroit easily passes.
Rangers don't have the 8x8 cap space for PLD. So Dubois isn't happening and he's going home to Montreal anyways.
And 2 late 1st doesn't get Kyle Connor, Detroit would blow away that offer to bring him home.</div></div>
So Detroit gets Scheifele and Connor? Where are you getting assets, cap space, etc. Detroit has more to figure out, scheifele isn’t really needed. Connor would be nice, but again you need the assets, and Detroit is fairly stingy. In hindsight I should have used the higher blues pick.
Minnesota I would say finds a way to make room. Dumba is gone which frees up around 5M on its own. Rangers weren’t supposed to get Kane and Tarasenko either and made it work. Doesn’t bother the Jets if the Rangers try their hand. Habs won’t give up a ton because they know he’s coming regardless.

LOL on the Bennett trade Bennett makes $4,425,000 Sharangovich more than likely makes that much on his next deal.</div></div>
Hellebuyck has 1 year left and is walking in Free Agency. If you’re Winnipeg, you’re taking the best available offer. Sharangovich may get more bit Bennett is gonna get even more than that on his next one most likely.

He has had one season above 32 points, and is 24 years old now. 45 points is not a first round pick anymore. That would mean someone like Stefan Noesen is also worth a first or high second (he is not). Dube could get a mid second+, not a first.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Epic_Ninja_Dude</b></div><div>Canucks decline. I'd rather not retain on Garland, even if it means getting less of a return. Retaining for 3 years in our current cap situation just doesn't make sense. The deal isn't terrible value wise, but we have no need for wingers so Robertson doesn't hold much value to us and beyond Silovs, we still have Talapila and Young while Akhtiamov doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade over either of those guys.</div></div>
Read again. It does not need to be Vancouver retaining, it can be another team, in which Akhtyamov would go there instead. This eliminated the retention on Vancouvers end for a team who could use the extra cap. Robertson does sorta fit depending on how the season goes. If Vancouver does commit to tearing it down, kid has a place on that team somewhere. He still holds value (if healthy) and can still be good. I feel like he'd be able to find some footing on a younger squad like Vancouver.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenXHockey</b></div><div>Bruins would most likely fold the franchise before trading hall to the leafs. Garland trade is bad for the leafs. Can't see us having any interest in him. The murray dump I get. But they may be sending him to the island.</div></div>
1. Bruins might, but they surely realize their time is up. Offices don't have the same rivalries as fanbases do. If Toronto is making an offer to take a player they would like to dump off their hands, I'd imagine they'd listen. Especially when a first and solid prospect are involved. I did come very close to going the Arvidsson route, but ultimately chose Hall due to him being a Toronto boy and a more proven performer, but Arvidsson could easily take that place if you would like!
2. Garland, as I wrote, I find to be underrated. Does he make a lot? Yes, however he is more than capable of living up to it and outperforming in the right situation, and he brings the elements that Toronto lacks. Imagine Kerfoots speed and defensive game coupled with Buntings heart and ability to score. It's a nice mix.
3. Murray won't be an Islander imo. Sorokin has the ability to play lots of games, 0 reason to have a 4.5M backup. He could realistically go anywhere, but I felt with the uncertainty of Hellebuyck, Winnipeg just felt right.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jets_Fan_Mike</b></div><div>Why not? He'd have the chance to win multiple Cups with McDavid and Draisaitl and he wouldn't need to score much as the shut down 3C with the Oilers since Edmonton can outscore pretty much every other team with McDavid and Draisaitl and any forwards that end up playing with those two.
As I understand it, since McDavid started treating the NHL like his own personal video game with him on cheat mode, other players have been happy to go to Edmonton whereas the Jets are one of the teams that have the hardest time with NTC restrictions in contracts.
For this reason, I think Lowry jumps at the chance to move to the Oilers if he's presented with that option since everyone seems to the think the Jets are at best a playoff bubble team that's teetering on the brink of a rebuild.</div></div>
Just doubted because long term deal, and because of his dad, who I just remembered is now gone. Maybe more plausible than I thought

I think it helps out both teams just fine, depending on how much the Canucks like Dorofeyev.</div></div>
