Leafs 2023 2024 Season Discussion Part 7 - Shambles
Anyone notice that both Leaf goals happened because the Leafs got pucks on net and guys in front? It was funny watching a Bruins fan flip off Knies with both hands. Tavares might have just extended his time as a Leaf and saved the jobs of Shanahan, Keefe, and Marner

Leafs 2023 2024 Season Discussion Part 7 - Shambles
Watching tonight's game (and frankly every other game where one of the core 4 has been injured) has made me realise something. The very idea of having a core 4 is why this team hasn't had success in the Matthews era. You can have too much of a good thing, and that's exactly the case with the Leafs.
Look at the Sharks after they got EK65. They should've been unstoppable, yet Burns was less productive and Karlsson wasn't the same player he was in Ottawa. This team will never win with a core 4

lou should go all in and I could see him moving some guys-- it would just be uncharacteristic of him as an Islander so far, but ya never know!

I’m not Paul marner I swear. Do not care whether marner is traded or not, sucks or is great, 0 care.
But I want him so very badly to have an absolute banger of a game and shut everybody up.
I like when these chances present themselves.

If Ottawa wants to go in a new direction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>I feel like Tkachuk has become so overrated, especially recently
Guy's never preformed when it mattered most, he consistently starts off slow, and when Ottawa gets basically knocked out, that's when he produces a ton...
(66 point pace in 1rst half, Ottawa gets put at the bottom, so no more expectation, 82 point pace)</div></div>
I am not sure about that. Like Slafkovsky, the package is really rare. I believe you need players like Tkachuk to win in the playoffs. You think Marchand is playing the Leafs like a fiddle? Just want until Brady does his thing.

Disagree all you want.
The Leafs would be better under Dubas, and Dubas would have acquired Karlsson.
And the Leafs would be better with Karlsson right now.
They are starving for a QB.</div></div>
Karlsson would have been the biggest mistake in history lets have 5 double digits oh boy....
Pitts PP finished 15.3% with him on it and they had Crosby, Malkin, etc.
Leafs dont need a QB they need a new ****ing PP coach lul
Boucher has them running at 7% these playoffs.
Should have just gave Spencer Carbery the biggest assistant coach paycheck in NHL history to stay as the PP coach his system worked

They’re better, have played better than not, and there’s a reasonable chance they get healthy fast, benefiting from extra offday. Each day after is presumably healthier. If Boston had beat them convincingly while they were without I’d think different.
Those dudes have been through too much to cave, and they’ve been too consistently good. You can’t do those things by accident.
If they don’t even put up a fight tho - ya gotta break it up.</div></div>

Friedman has allegedly said "It will be the end of the current group" if the Leafs don't pull a comeback. I'm surprised MLSE has the balls to do this, I'd argue it should've been done 1-2 years ago but better late than never, now onto the speculation of who leaves (JT and Marner seem like the obvious ones)

That's a nice DCore sir! Still need a goalie, though (no offense).

They need young defensemen near NHL ready and this accomplishes that</div></div>
I doubt they win the series with the Bruins. Swayman is looking really strong. If Ullmark makes an appearance next game, I think the Leafs have a shot. Not sure what Montgomery is thinking with this 2 goalie rotation. At least make it "win and you're in, y'know?"
Anyway I think the Leafs need to consider some serous changes. The Habs deal here is probably not right, but moving Tavares & Marner for defense and goaltending and some secondary scoring (easier said than done for sure) is probably the right thing.

Hot Take Marner Shouldnt be Traded
Marner absolutely has value but if the Leafs go out in R1 he will be under even more fire from the fans and media than he is right now. That and running it back is just moronic.
The thing Leafs fans should appreciate is that Treliving is actually very good at making blockbuster trades. The Hamilton deal was fantastic for Calgary, the Tkachuk deal was widely viewed as a home run when it was made too, despite Tkachuk refusing to sign a contract and asking for a trade. Not to mention he would have landed Eichel too had Vegas not casually added Mark Stone and Pacioretty to LTIR to make the room
