Robertson looks like he can't stay healthy. He might not be worthless, but his value is going to be low until he shows he can play more than 40 games in a season.

The Caps' left side is Sandin, Fehervary, and Alexeyev. Brodie is more of what the Caps already have in Fehervary, Jensen, and TVR, and his 5M cap hit would take up valuable room the Caps need to upgrade their forwards. Leafs fans include him in trades to the Caps all the time for some reason (I guess they look at the Caps D contracts and think they need a LD because they miss that Fehervary's an RFA), but he's a terrible fit in Washington and is probably worth less to them than he would be to just about any other team.

A 1st in 2024 for a year of Wilson isn't close. The Caps don't view him as a rental, they view him as a core piece and will probably have him locked up on a new contract within the first few days of July. Here's what Eliotte Friedman said about him in his podcast a couple days ago.

The Caps GM said they want him to be a Cap for life, Wilson's said he wants to be a Cap for life, the most connected local writer Tarik El-Bashir has said he expects him to re-sign, and Friedmann said on his podcast today that he reached out about Wilson and was told emphatically that the Caps view him as a core part of the team and won't be moving him. There's been about as much confirmation that Wilson's not on the block as you could possibly get. What else do you want us to say? Proposals with him in them are a waste of time, but they make up probably 1/3 to 1/2 of the Caps trades proposed by non-Caps fans on this site, and have for years now. It gets pretty obnoxious.

I saw it when it first happened, the refs saw it when it first happened, then they reviewed it and upheld their decision to eject him, then <a href="https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2023/wm/news/45025/usa_s_michael_eyssimont_suspended" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">the IIHF reviewed it and gave him a one game suspension for kneeing,</a> then <a href="https://sweden.postsen.com/sports/105992/Michael-Eyssimont-called-and-apologized-to-Rasmus-Sandin-during-the-WC.html" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Eyssimont called Sandin to apologize.</a> I dunno what more you could want.

I haven't heard any credible buyout rumors about Mantha, pretty sure that's just people extrapolating from the Caps talking to teams about him. The only media in DC that has any actual connections with the team is Tarik El-Bashir with the Athletic, and he wrote this in a mailbag last week:

In another article the week before that, he wrote this:

People thinking the Caps will buy Mantha out, or pay/retain to get rid of him are going to be disappointed.

Sujet: EK65 to WSH the weaponize Cap space

Did you forget the Caps already have their own high-end offensive defenseman, who's coincidentally also named Carlson? They've got no need for EK, certainly not at the cost of the 8th OA pick when they've got much bigger needs and limited resources to meet them.

Also, since I've decided to make this my white whale, Jensen and TVR were both signed to extensions a couple months ago, and teams don't extend guys and then trade them before the extensions kick in.
