<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JokiharjuForNylanderLMAO</b></div><div>I genuinely don’t understand how you believe this is an inadequate return. Rakell has had back to back slump seasons while mentioning ANA is now a rebuilding team. DeAngelo is a young top pairing RHD who is on pace for 45 points this season, Pavel Buchnevich is a top 6 forward that replaces Rakell who’d probably see a much better return elsewhere like Anaheim. Zac Jones, especially after the world juniors with the Americans, looks like another top defensive prospect we’ll be looking to develop and looks really good.</div></div>

Whilst I agree that Rakell has slumped, there simply isn't the talent around him to perform at his best. Although Rakell is a very good 1st line winger, he isn't an elite one. Therefore, he can't drive the play by himself and needs good talent (i.e. prime Getzlaf) to perform at his peak. However, in that situation, he is absolutely capable of producing 30+ goals in a season and he's proven that twice. We wouldn't trade Rakell ignoring his 2 x 30+ goal seasons and only focusing on his 2 down years just to suit you. He's a proven 30+ goal scorer and will need to valued that way if we're to move him. Then you have to consider that he's just entering his prime years and has 2 more years of term after this one on a sweetheart deal. I mean, if you seriously think, at the age of 25, he's got no chance of bouncing back alongside a prime 1C and RW combo to become a 30+ goalscorer again, then why even bother trading for him? You literally have players who are outscoring him right now. Makes no sense.

Naturally, Buch, although a decent replacement, is a significant downgrade from Rakell. I know you have added DeAngelo and Jones to make up some of that. Personally, I don't think DeAngelo is that great. He's heavily sheltered, getting the highest PP time of all your D-men and basically 0 PK time. Meanwhile, his starts are heavily-weighted in the O-zone. That to me shows he can't be trusted on the back-end and is strictly used to generate offence. We simply don't need that kind of D-man. We have a lot of kids coming through, and they need sheltering. We need guys who can be relied upon and DeAngelo isn't that kind of player. If anything, he's a guy you end up overpaying *cough* Shattenkirk *cough* because he puts up good numbers, but then realise he's not very good once you stop sheltering him. As far as Jones, "yes" he looks like a neat prospect, but he's high risk to even make the NHL and his upside isn't all that high. I know you can get hidden gems in the later rounds, especially D-men, but the likelihood that Jones is one of them is slim-to-none. His WJC run wasn't that fantastic IMO. He's produced some decent NCAA, but nothing that makes me say "we need that guy".

Overall, I think we'd get a much better offer from another team. Not only does yours fall short in terms of value, it doesn't really do anything for us. We need picks and high-level players just about to break out. We'd probably demand a return similar to what Bobby Ryan got. So you're looking at a top prospect + replacement winger (I guess this could be Buch) + 1st (top 3 protected). I guess something like K'Andre Miller + Buch + 1st is what I'd be looking for. I have no doubt, given your assessment of Rakell, that you will find this far too much, but that's the type of returned we'd need.
