habs arent in the market for a player like boeser, if you're dead-set on the draft capital, maybe a team like ottawa or ner jersey who have openly admitted to considering moving high picks (2,7 ovr) in return for impact players. i would also say that brock's value is higher than that

rags trade is getting desperate, scheif is not what he used to be, and now that word is out on him being total cancer in the locker room I cant see teams being so eager to grab him, especially not the up and coming rangers who seem to be one of the tighter knit groups in the league.

value is good on the GEO trade but I don't know if habs are looking for an NHL G right now. with price still being a question mark and the team still needing at least one more season of rebuilding before they start to pull up, rolling out a tandem of Montembault and Allen again feels like the right choice.

TBF up to this point he has not been set up to succeed, getting top minutes on a bottom-feeder team in only your second year is a tall order. his lack of offensive production also tends to discourage people who want to believe that he truly is the answer. on the flip side though, his defensive numbers show great promise. he is by no means perfect still sometimes getting caught chasing a hit instead of the puck, or being just a little bit loose on his coverage, but all in all things that are expected and can be forgiven in a young player. I expect this year to really show what he can do, tying together his experience and showing for all to see that he can be a reliable NHL D be it on the top or second pair.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Not_Not_Batman</b></div><div>Appreciate the honest detailed response. Makes a ton of sense why the idea of the trade would ruffle some feathers then.
Out of curiosity, how much more would it take? I'm not sure from a Sabres perspective it would make much sense to add much more, but what would a trade from your perspective have to look like?</div></div>
from a habs perspective, our biggest prospect hole is the wing and the net, a deal in my mind would certainly be centred around Devon Levi. from there a middle-value prospect on the wing and maybe a third-round pick depending on the second prospect. in this scenario, I would be comfortable adding more to get it done say it was a Peterka-type prospect or really anyone who when combined with Levi is worth more than romy. for Levi and Peterka I would gladly give up Romanov, a prospect in whichever position fits the sabres' needs (or a roster player) and a pick to get that done. the habs could also potentially take on cap space in the form of bad contracts to throw more value in. if say Cody Eakin was included and eating his deal was a way to sort of tip the scales in MTL's favor I would also be okay with that. as far as roster players are concerned, there isn't a single player that I wouldn't trade if the right offer came along, not including the young guys (Harris, Barron, Guhle, Rem Pitlick, Evans, Suzuki, Caufield) most of the contracts aren't the greatest but if that was what it took to get the deal done giving up any of Edmundson, Drouin, Dvorak, Petry, Allen, Anderson, Gallagher, savard and so on and so forth would be okay by me. so to recap; in a trade for Romanov, MTL would be looking for prospects, preferably in net with Levi and a winger. to get this they are comfortable moving prospects, roster players, taking on contracts, ETC there are very few untouchables so buffalo has a lot to work with here in my mind.

halfway through this year you could've argued that Romanov was not worth the time anymore but under MSL he really blossomed into a gem (how many different players did that though amirite?) now a bonified top four D who can play both sides comfortably, he is solidly our best defenceman and in my mind the third most valuable player in our organization.

Toews
I think for this one you're on the right track but still, a little bit off, at this point Toews is a negative asset. were we to trade for him Hoffman alone would work for Toews and some mid-late round pick (think late third to early fifth). toews has a cap hit of 10.5 mil for another year, whereas Hoffman is only making 4.5 in that same time. tank commander Hoffman, somehow, is more effective on ice than Toews. To send Petry AND dvo in return for Toews warrants more than just a second-rounder, closer to maybe the 23 first or even 24 first-rounder and second-rounder. I see what you're thinking and I like the process here; taking on cap to increase the number of assets you receive is a great way to rebuild, but the value on this one is just a little out of whack.

as far as that habs trade goes your value is pretty close to fair, nobody would flip **** if that was all it was. unfortunately, Montreal is a team without a true far and away #1 defenceman that would still be so on most of the teams in the league, think Hedman, makar, fox, Slavin, Hamilton, Ekblad, ETC. Romanov is the closest thing we have to that, he's young and plays both LD & RD, and showed massive improvement under MSL even becoming our clear-cut best blueliner. under this context, he is probably if not definitely a top-three piece for this team in terms of value, right next to 14 and 22. trading for him would almost definitely have to be an overpay just because he is really all that we have right now.

Lets speculate based on nothing
if I'm Montreal I don't know if the difference between 26 and 12 validates dropping from wright to slafkovsky. reports already come saying HuGo is undecided between the two which worries me enough. there are plenty of NHL-caliber prospects throughout the late first and early second round, it's almost not worth it in my mind to give up Shane, we know what happens when you draft a kid just because of his strong frame and big shiny muscles.

How about Caufield for Kevin Shattenkirk?</div></div>
I mean we are rebuilding but id be more interested in selling off older less valuable assets, picking up plugs like shattdueces is a good way to rebuild though because you can add surplus value from other pieces, this one could work if we switched the pieces around

Pastrnak-Gallagher
we just had a whole decade of rebuilding for like a year and then rushing back into contention this is not the way. we need to actually stay bad which means not signing big names like Klingberg, not trading for upper echelon skilled guys who don't fit our timeline like Pastrnak, and certainly not trading the first overall pick in the entire draft. trading Petry is good though, just not for Dallas's best prospect, just because he's making a lot of money doesn't mean he's worth it after all.

Connor had 93 points this past season, and has 4 seasons over 30 goals, 26 last year in the shortened season. He's signed for 4 more years at a pretty reasonable cap hit also given his production.</div></div>

the amount of rebuilding the jets need puts their timeline after Connor, Ehlers, PLD, etc. all the guys that should be going/gone also have either an NMC or NTC so just sending scheif or wheels away because they suck is easier said than done.
