as much as i do agree with this, drury has been pretty good with keeping rumors behind closed doors. since he took over, there have only been 4 players that have been 'expected' to be moved to the rangers. of those 4, three happened (kane, wennberg and goodrow with yesterday being the first 'blunder') and even yesterday, the rangers were truly a finalist. they were stubborn on who they didn't want to move (which works for me) and i don't think the pens would've sent him to nyr anyway. although the canes seem to have gotten him at a steal of a price... but they were also very clear on no contract extension prior. so who knows, nyr might've seen that as a deal breaker

rangers have made obvious they won't be moving othmann, kakko or perreault unless they're blown away by something. love buch, but even with the extra year, he's not worth giving up one of those three + a first (or more)

Today wishlist
i think nyr would accept this. although this would have to be a later in the day deal and "settle" for this if they're outbid on everyone else. they don't have too many more roster spots to fill. but the value for that trade fits both teams

However, we've no interest in Goodrow for the next 3 years and certainly not for the compensation of just a 5th and a 6th. You'd need to find someone who actually wants him, which may be a tad difficult.</div></div>
yeah which makes it difficult. the rangers aren't 'that' crunched for cap with a few ltirs, so they could prob just get wennberg at full. something close to: wennberg and a 6th, for goodrow, (prospect: insert robertson/sykora), a 2nd and a 3rd/4th. something like this could be an incentive where the initial trade has some lower value, but player/team performance ups the overall return

he's not worth that much. maybe a low 4th, but a 3rd would be an overpay, let alone adding more picks on top

the trade with nyr isn't awful, but i don't believe a first would be going the other way. two rentals for a first and a nhl ready offensive defenseman? not a chance

even with the rumors, i don't see kakko being sent anywhere unless it's in a package for a high level player. they won't trade him for a middle 6 forward

What is the value of these players
rempe would be interesting, i think that value is moderatley fair. for saros, i think you can get more. i understand the down year, but you're not necessarily getting much in return for a perennial top 10 goalie. the trade with cbj would need more going their way, they spent a lot to acquire him

although an interesting trade for nyr, not sure why they would trade a current dman for a prospect and a pick. an actual nhl player would need to be going the other way

Question to Rags fans
he's played well for nyr, but it's almost like he hit an informal ceiling. he was progressing every game but has kinda been on and off. his defense has slipped and his offense has been okay. a lot of boneheaded dzone clears and isn't great defending oddman rushes (no one is great at this, but it tends to always go in when it is him). he might be packaged at the deadline honestly if they can upgrade his position. if he can stay healthy and improve his game a bit, a swap for dvorak would be intriguing, but most likely unrealistic. a mid first round pick would do it, if we're talking draft picks.

Sharks sell tiers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>matthias893</b></div><div>San Jose only has one retention slot available, so using it on a deal that brings back a 5th or 6th would be a waste. Contenders with tight cap situations will pay a premium to fit a player in before playoffs, and it doesn't even have to be one of the Sharks trade candidates, we could be the third team on other trades too. A player like Hoffman might only be tradeable with retention, but I'm betting that isn't going to be the best return for using that last slot.</div></div>
oh yeah that's true i forgot there's a cap for retentions. maybe the sharks will take back goodrow with open arms :)

yeah they are about 15 guys in the nhl that could be slotted for this, but he's a cheap stay at home defenseman who somehow has a positive +/- (although only 11 games) with CHI this year. like i said, this trade could be done with half the teams in the league, but it provides an insurance policy later on. also on an expiring deal, i don't see him staying with chicago

i think labanc and hoffman have more value than you think. sj won't be blown away by an offer, but hoffman at 50% (2250000) might fetch a 3rd/4th. he's been ok this year and could provide some offense to a struggling bottom 6 on a playoff team. labanc might be a bit harder, but since he's on an expiring deal, you take what you can get. he's another case of 50% (2362500) might get sj a 5th or 6th rounder, which would only be beneficial to the sharks

BR targets
out of these "top targets" i think they most beneficial and realistic would be eberle. at 50% retained, they could make it work. in an ideal world, moving goodrow would make life so much easier, but it won't happen. acquiring eberle at 50% retained (2750000) would keep nyr under the cap, but would leave little room to make improvement outside of that. with the current roster and players moved to the taxi squad, they would have 325k. in this case, they could acquire a defenseman at around 1.125M (swapping the place of one of the rangers bottom 3 defenseman

Re-Tool 2
that's an overpay for the rangers for two borderline rentals. miller + garand + first round + prospect (robertson or henriksson) would do it. you'd get nyr's best goalie prospect, a very solid offensive dman that needs a mental reset, a first rounder and a nhl ready prospect

yeah something around there. retaining some money will up his value and the rangers don't have too many middle picks. would've chosen a third for duclair (retained)
