What’d be the ask for him on draft day? Hugo has proven prepared to overpay on draft day to get their guy. Barron would most likely be going the other way but what else?

he's played well for nyr, but it's almost like he hit an informal ceiling. he was progressing every game but has kinda been on and off. his defense has slipped and his offense has been okay. a lot of boneheaded dzone clears and isn't great defending oddman rushes (no one is great at this, but it tends to always go in when it is him). he might be packaged at the deadline honestly if they can upgrade his position. if he can stay healthy and improve his game a bit, a swap for dvorak would be intriguing, but most likely unrealistic. a mid first round pick would do it, if we're talking draft picks.

To actually pry him away, Barron, Habs 1st and cheap RW

But unlikely since he’s Trouba’s replacement in 2 years

As a Rangers fan, its weird how I feel like he has somehow been worse each season. I feel like he is not nearly as physical and blows coverages. I still like the kid. I wouldn't be opposed to trading him for a good RW prospect so they can stop wasting picks on rentals for that role.

In Pronman's most recent prospect rankings he had Schneider and Barron in the same tier "middle of the lineup" so basically 2nd pair. Barron and Schnieder are fom the same draft, taken 6 selections apart. Barron is more offensive while Schneider is more defensive, the difference is not a "1st Round pick plus a RW". Regardless, this trade makes no sense. If MTL is trading a D prospect it won't be for another one in return.

Don’t really see why New York would package him to upgrade his position when you already have Trouba and Fox ahead in the depth chart, just an embarrassment of riches.

Montreal’s first this year is most likely going to be top 10 so don’t see that being part of the deal but I could see Montreal snagging one late first at the TDL this year.

So how about Barron, Ylonen and a late first? You guys think that would get the deal done? I would honestly call it an overpay on Montreal’s part but I do see Schneider blossoming into a top 4 with the Habs so I think it’d be worth it. New York gets a right dman the same age in Barron to replace Schneider on the bottom pairing, a cheap young RW in Ylonen who I personally really like but MSL doesn’t seem to want to give him an opportunity and a late first.

Because Trouba isn’t that good defensively and only 2 years left after this year, which lines up perfectly if they bridge Schneider

Also, Schneider’s offensive ability and skating has impressed me lately. I think he’s a 2 way defensman now rather than shutdown D

Lol you’re confusing actual value VS what it’ll take to get actually get Schneider. Common theme on this site

Yeah I agree, I definitely see see him as a 2way dman.
Problem with grooming him to take Trouba spot is in the meantime he sits on the bottom pairing which isn’t really conducive with his development. Not saying NY has to trade him by any means but if MTL were to offer a decent package for him, why not?

Well Drury isn’t gonna trade him away because Lavi refuses develop him or move him up in the lineup. If he does trade him, then 2 years later Trouba is gone then they’re stuck with neither

Rangers have no reason to trade Schneider, he is young, cheap and full of potential, so there is no way they trade him.
