In theory, this is great from a rebuild standpoint. But Ottawa is not going to spend that kind of money

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I am not sure this team is better than last years squad.
A question to Pens fans, would you rather squeeze every last drop of value from this core and watch it become the LA Kings or would you be open to moving your core while they still have some value in hopes of a quicker reboot?</div></div>
Try and get after it now, flip our "core" (not including Sid, ever) for youth and try and win another cup with Sidney Crosby. In this case, however, I would be surprised if Florida gave up a winger (Huberdeau) and have a logjam at Center (Trocheck, Malkin, Barkov). I think any trade with Florida revolves around Trocheck/Geno.

That misses the plot.. this would only move the Senators up in the draft by like 5-10 spots to take on a bad contract for 2 more years and lose a coveted rental they hope to use toward building a future.

I am generally on board with this as a Pens fan.. Riikola is probably the only piece that would be sad to see go - Hornqvist hurts, but his term and position in the team is not compatible long term. This would leave the offseason for the Penguins to get rid of (hopefully) Pearson and Maatta/Johnson if they can. Need more youth/grit in the lineup. Guys who will go balls to wall to retrieve pucks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>well...that would be very short sighted then....trading a 22yr old winger with tons of promise straight up for a 28yr old defenceman with only one more year left on his deal and the likelihood that he'll be looking for a big deal at 30yrs old as a renewal...one which the Leafs likely wouldn't be able to accommodate. But sure...I'm absurd for thinking further than 1.5 years out.
Jakub Vorachek
Nathan MacKinnon
Jack Eichel
Corey Perry
Mark Scheifele
Nikita Kucherov
Matt Duchene
and many others.....know what they have in common? They put up similar stats to Nylander over their first 3 years. Would you trade any of them in their early 20s for 1.3 seasons of a vet #1 d-man?
I think Pietrangelo is fantastic...don't get me wrong...but you're hating on the Leafs/Nylander without any credible insight to back you up
You are once again proving your inability to comprehend simple english here. I thought I spelled it out for you in my last post but I guess not....
I am not comparing any of Nylander, Murray, Laine to each other....I'm using your trash opinion of Nylander and showing you how ridiculous it looks if you apply the same logic to other players. If you don't like Nylander...that's fine, nobody here needs you to. But if you want to go spout off about how other people's opinions are absurd...I'll hold the mirror up so you can see how your theory looks when applied to other players.
Anything else? I'm guessing the next reply probably misses the point again and will ramble on about how I know think Nylander is as valuable as MacKinnon.</div></div>
You compared trading 3 different players that did or are going through a rough patch. It's incomparable to show Murray/Laine going through rough patch (the latter being injured as well) and what their trade value is (not to mention the different position/skill set and that nobody even fathomed moving them) than to a young player who just got paid. And for every player you mentioned there's 100 that don't pan out. On top of the, I'm willing to bet the aforementioned list you compiled never had a season (surrounded by as much talent as Nylander to boot) where they averaged .33 points per game (time will tell on that one)... But once again, godspeed if you think Nylander and a 2nd nets you Pietrangelo. Not sure why you even want to trade your superstar young talent for a rental, but that's a different topic.

You are acting as though Nylander has lit the lamp so far in his career... and the fact you are weighing the option of whether you want to trade him for AP is absurd - 100 times out of 100 you make that deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>My goodness you are thick.
I obviously don't think Nylander > Laine....who...by the way...is up for his raise this offseason. Think he signs for less than $7m? I guess if he goes quiet for 20 games next year while making $9m+ he's immediately worthless too.
THE POINT....since it needs to be spelled out for you...is that making a comment that "Nylander sucks ass" based on a 20 game sample size instead of a 3 year sample size is absolutely and utterly idiotic when discussing a 22yr old who missed the first two months of the season.
Matt Murray was sporting a 4.07 GAA and .876 save percentage after the first two months of the season....by your standard he's a junk goaltender then and forever because a 2 month window overshadows anything done prior or anything reasonably expected to be produced in the future.
What else you got to justify your asinine comments?</div></div>
Nylander doesn't have anywhere near the sample size (nor 2 rings) to justify your comparables. The fact you are comparing his worth to Matt Murray and Patrick Laine is idiotic. But keep on hoping you can flip him for Pietrangelo

So, clearly laine would similarly be a terrible asset for winnipeg to use in a trade. Based on your logic, the Jets would need to add to a Laine-Kapanen deal because Kapanen is making less money and has 5 goals and 7 assists over the same time period
Get real.</div></div>
You're trying to trade a guy who just got paid and sucks ass for a top RD in hockey lmfao - And comparing Laine to Nylander shows how naive you are (or just a homer).. Laine been potting 30+ for 3 years now and is a top goal scorer in hockey. Good luck trading Nylander for a top dman, glad a blind squirrel found a nut on Wednesday and he got 3 apples.

TDL pseudo-reset button
Penguins real issue that puts them in this position is how poor our drafts have been since 2013.. Since 2013, the only Penguins drafted players to make it to consistent NHL-play are 2014: Kapanen (in Toronto), 2015: Dominik Simon and I'll list Daniel Sprong (traded to ANH), and that's all she wrote - No Sheary's Rust's Maatta's Guentzel's Dumoulin's etc. to replenish the roster for cheap and keep people hungry. We won two cups so I won't complain that part of this reason is we've leveraged 1st round picks.. but that is a HUGE problem for a team in the Cap era. You need those players to contribute and give the old legs some support .
