My 20-21 Penguins Team - MY PENS LECTURE - The 7 Needs and Reasons Why
This is a really good team man. I don’t know if Carolina moves Necas but if it’s for Murray who’s won 3 in 5, no doubt they should accept. I don’t know if Buffalo wants to move Ullmark, he seems to be their starter. Hutton you could probably target.

Pit next season
Just not logical.
The Pens will not have to give up two of their best prospects to dump JJ and Bjugstad.
You said something like”there was one reason we traded for Zucker and that was to replace Guentzel”
False statement.
GMJR has wanted Jason Zucker for the past couple years(including when Guentzel was healthy and coming off a 40-goal year. He tried to trade Kessel for him last offseason.
Hall and pietrangelo are not options for the pens. Hall has had one good year and outside of that has been an injury prone 20-goal scorer. Pietrangelo is great but Letang and Marino are the top-2 RHD.
GMJR will not trade two players in Tanev and Zucker that he just acquired. They have both performed well, unlike Bjugstad, Hunwick, JJ, brassard, etc.

I get you're a pens fan but Konecny > Rust, Provorov > Dumoulin, Hayes > Blueger, Myers > Pettersson, and Hart > Jarry and Murray
You should do lines like this:
Giroux - Crosby - Konecny
Guentzel - Malkin - Voracek
Zucker - Couturier - Rust
JVR - Hayes - Hornqvist
Provorov - Letang
Dumoulin - Marino
Sanheim - Myers
Hart
Jarry

Revisiting The Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IgorKutchakokov</b></div><div>That's fair. They do have a lot of depth there, but the constant impulse to move Johnson up is a concern should the Pens face that scenario. Riikola has more than held his own this year, but Sullivan just doesn't like the guy.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nights_King93</b></div><div>That is my primary concern as well.. Moving JJ up. I think he needs tethered to that bottom pairing and PK role unless more than 2 guys go down. Bump up Schultz. Marino can flip sides if needed. If two LDs go down I'd rather Riikola get top 4 minutes with a guy like Marino. But you are right, I don't see Sully doing that since he just played JJ with Letang for three weeks.</div></div>
Moving up JJ is just gonna kill the team. He is just such a bad fit for this system I have no idea why Sully keeps playing him over Riikola. He is simply not giving the team the best chance to win in this regard. I’m not really that confident in bumping Schultz to an elevated role if there are injuries. He seemed really inconsistent. Showed flashes of his old self like vs LA, but the last 3 games he’s been poor again.

Revisiting The Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IgorKutchakokov</b></div><div> The only scary part is if any of our top-4 defensemen get injured in the playoffs, we could fall apart pretty quickly.</div></div>
I think this could be said of any team. If Boston loses Krug or Mcavoy that D room becomes much different. Same with Tampa and Hedman, Sergachev, etc. Washington loses Carlson they are likely done, even if it would be just one round.
Pens have better d depth than most. CR has played a lot on teams that won cups. I personally still like Riikola.
Other than that, I think we are essentially in agreement on every other issue.

What'd you guys think of this team?</div></div>
Now in terms of what I THINK JR is most likely going to do:
-Sheary most likely isn't going to be resigned considering Guentzel is coming back next year and we have Poulin and Legare ready to make the jump in 1-2 years it just doesn't make sense to give him term especially since JR already got rid of him as a cap dump less than 2 years ago and he hasn't improved at all since then.
-Don't think PO Joseph is going to be ready to jump into the top 6 next year and I think Johnson gets at least another year before we have to extend Marino.
-As far as a cap dump goes I think it's much more likely to be Hornqvist than Bjugstad since Hornqvist is already showing signs of decline and can't continue playing the way he does into his 30s. A young guy like Lafferty could be coached in time to do what he does. Hopefully we get him another cup on his way out the door.
-I highly doubt we keep Murray and Jarry. Colorado is apparently very interested in Jarry. The reason why we sent Desmith down on waivers instead of Jarry was because JR was convinced Colorado was going to pick him up, which ended up being a very smart move. I think we're gonna move Jarry at the draft for a 1st rounder and extend Murray but I could see JR moving whichever goalie wants the most money.
Other than that this is probably very similar to what our roster will look like next year

Additionally we get a fast bottom 6 player who can kill penalties and replace ZAR's steady fourth line minutes while he's out. Prob a fair trade</div></div>

Why would the Penguins give up a lot more than what Arizona did to get Hall?
Addison is better than any of the prospects New Jersey got. Hallander arguably is too.
Also AA has more value than that from Detroit.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IgorKutchakokov</b></div><div>Real question for a Kings fan - What is Toffoli's game right now? Pens getting linked with him a lot, so curious about his speed.</div></div>
Toffoli isn't a burner. He's known for his ability to always be in the sweet spots with a really good shot to go behind it. His underestimated quality is his work on the boards. Kopitar is the only player on the Kings that is better along the boards than Toffoli. He's also a very good threat on the PK for shorthanded goals, as well as being a pretty decent power play threat.
The entire Kings team has been struggling, but Toffoli can still produce at a very high clip when placed with skilled players (read: Not on the 3rd or 4th line). This is evidenced by him being the highest scoring player on the Kings since being placed on Kopitar's line about 15-20 games ago. PPG pace, almost.
Great top-6 forward with Cup-winning experience, PK and PP capabilities, and on-pace for another 20+ goal season on one of the worst offensive teams in the league.

The ZAR, Blueger, Tanev line has been really good. Why break them up to gain a few % points in the faceoff dots?
Why take Rust away from Malkin? They've been killing it...
Why would NJ trade a top defensive prospect that they just acquired?
Why overpay for Josh Anderson? Who has 4 points on the season & then put him in the top 6...and to lose a trade like that to a division rival :(

I don't necessarily want him out, but I think he's currently the best trade candidate due to the fact that he has value and they have too much money tied up in the defense. I'd rather move Maatta and get something of value back than pay to move JJ. Gudbranson could also be moved, but I don't see him having much value still despite playing pretty well since joining the Pens.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>well...that would be very short sighted then....trading a 22yr old winger with tons of promise straight up for a 28yr old defenceman with only one more year left on his deal and the likelihood that he'll be looking for a big deal at 30yrs old as a renewal...one which the Leafs likely wouldn't be able to accommodate. and many others.....know what they have in common? They put up similar stats to Nylander over their first 3 years. Would you trade any of them in their early 20s for 1.3 seasons of a vet #1 d-man?
I think Pietrangelo is fantastic...don't get me wrong...but you're hating on the Leafs/Nylander without any credible insight to back you up
You are once again proving your inability to comprehend simple english here. I thought I spelled it out for you in my last post but I guess not....
I am not comparing any of Nylander, Murray, Laine to each other....I'm using your trash opinion of Nylander and showing you how ridiculous it looks if you apply the same logic to other players. If you don't like Nylander...that's fine, nobody here needs you to. But if you want to go spout off about how other people's opinions are absurd...I'll hold the mirror up so you can see how your theory looks when applied to other players.
Anything else? I'm guessing the next reply probably misses the point again and will ramble on about how I know think Nylander is as valuable as MacKinnon.</div></div>

Not really worth it. Nylander is being heavily overpaid, Dubas has said he isn't trading him either. I would say Liljegren, 1st, Zaitsev, and a F prospect for Pietrangelo Stevens and a 5th. Should be a solid offer think both teams would agree. <a href="/users/Chopper02" target="_blank">@Chopper02</a> <a href="/users/AndrewColvin91" target="_blank">@AndrewColvin91</a>

This trade just doesnt work for the Canes. I HIGHLY doubt that they retain anything on Staal. I could see a staal for brassard trade happening, with some picks involved, but I think the canes would want something like a 1st and a prospect if its coming from the pens.

I don't think they do this.
I also think JJ will play better than people expect. It won't be right away but if there is one place he can right the ship it's in pittsburgh. The coaching there for defense men is simply better than anwyhere else.
I also think JJ was brought in knowing they are are probably going to trade out shultz at the end of the year.
As much as I like Shultz, he's not a primary cog in the wheel and the trade value for him will be high. That will be important when they are looking for centers next year.

Penguins Projected Lineup
Looks about right.
Switch Simon and ZAR. Switch Oleksiak and Johnson.
Simon played right with the team last year. ZAR was used as a left winger.
Oleksiak played his best hockey last year on the right side. Johnson has spent most of his career on the left.
Also, Hayes can be sent to the AHL. No need to keep him up. This allows for there to be more deadline cap space (around $5 million).
