Description

Pittsburgh gets grit LW Ferland that is UFA in the summer flipped for RW Hornqvist that is signed with term that Carolina wants. Hamilton moves into the RD spot filling the 3 defensive pairs nicely for Carolina they get a depth NHL winger (Simon), left handed defensive prospect with NHL time (Rikkola), center prospect in Hallander as well as a 1st round pick. Just a thought to make all the lines work for Pittsburgh and the D-pairs even. Also I know that they won't sit Cullen or Johnson so that's why it's a hope and prayer...

agreed, simon and maybe another minor piece is enough for Ferland. So that leaves horni, the 1st, Hallander for Hamilton, which is a lot.

I am generally on board with this as a Pens fan.. Riikola is probably the only piece that would be sad to see go - Hornqvist hurts, but his term and position in the team is not compatible long term. This would leave the offseason for the Penguins to get rid of (hopefully) Pearson and Maatta/Johnson if they can. Need more youth/grit in the lineup. Guys who will go balls to wall to retrieve pucks.

Ferland is a total and complete upgrade from Hornqvist and sometimes you have to "overpay" to make trades work. So when you're a team like Pittsburgh that is in a win now mentality to get a solid RHD and a driveline LW plus shed salary of Hornqvist you have to "overpay".

Ferland is a massive downgrade from hornqvist long term, so in order to make that part of the trade work the canes would need to throw in extra to make that exchange remotely close.

Canes pass...Do not believe Canes are trading Hamilton at this point. Canes have best record and most goals in the league since Jan 1st. Why would they make a trade like this?

Hamilton didn’t have a great start to the season. But since early Jan, he’s playing on the top pair with Slavin and seems to be back to his dangerous offensive self.
