<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shakabakes</b></div><div>Trading Henrik for another team to buy him out isn't overly farfetched. However, since there is no way the Rangers give up a 1st in order to make it happen, I could see them retain half the salary in the trade. Still would save them more than a Year 1 of a Buyout (with no year 2 to worry about), and they don't have to give up such hefty compensation.</div></div>
The Henrik deal is one I've only seen a few times on here and I thought it was a creative type of trade. Maybe a 1st is too much, but I always go back to TOR giving up a 1st to get rid of Marleau at 6M.... so that was my gage. 6M cap hit means 1st rounder.
This is under the assumption that NYR didn't have the cap to buy him out.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>I like cernak but a rd isn't the big priority. Can't see carolina moving trochek, necas seems like a winger and I can't see staal in that 2nd slot. I'll take demko and pass on turris, 4 years at 6 million is just a huge risk</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>I'm guessing because Detroit has cap space. NYR has 15 players on their roster right now and $14.4M in space. Strome and Deangelo need to be signed brings you roster to 17. Hank's buyout will cost $5.5M this season so If NYR buys him out it only gives them they only frees up $3M cap space. Now Lafreniere and his ELC helps so can NYR resign Strome and Deangelo and 5 other players with $16.4M? But I don't know because this isn't my post.
I think Nashville is the only team to accept but I'm not sure it very good for Detroit. Turris has 4yrs left on his contract at $6M per season and the cap won't increase more than a $1M until the NHL's HRR tops $4.8B in consecutive seasons.</div></div>
The Turris trade has 2M retained, so we'd have Turris at 4M. Felt that was easier to swallow and get his salary more to what his production would be expected at.

I’d take both of these. As many 1st rounders as possible.
I know Turris at 6M seems tough getting 11OA would be worth it I feel. Turris gives us C depth as we rebuild (wings have no one behind Larkin). I’d rather have Turris than a 35yr old vet FA just to fill a spot.

I guess if you think signing a bunch of FAs is the way to go, I guess this works.
You forgot about Hronek though, you have him in the AHL.

Staal would be a great add for DET, as it solidifies Top Cs between Larkin and Staal for a few years. DET needs it (obviously, duh).... but not sure how I feel about giving up 2 picks for a guy in his 30s.
I'm on the fence on this one...... I guess it matters if Yzerman is willing to give up 2 long shots at NHL players in those picks to give the youngins on DET some stability.
However, Staal waving his NMC to come to a dumpster fire to probably finish out his career is a roadblock.

I would hope DET would not give up three picks for a player that was a healthy scratch at times last season.

Whoa - lot of bickering on this thread.
DET trade is tempting, 2021 1st rounder from BUF would be a high pick I would bet.
To play both sides of the fence here, getting a high 1st round pick in a stacked 2021 draft is tempting, but I also see the side of wanting more. TOR gave up a 1st rounder to get rid of only 1 year of 6M of Marleau, so I don't think the argument of wanting a bit more for 3 years of 6M is not totally crazy.
Not Crazy about Okposo, but getting another high 1st round pick might be too tempting to pass up as a foundation of a DET/BUF deal.

NYR trade works. I like the idea for any cap dump trade. Use their cap space and not have to deal with a roster spot being taken up.
I think that'd be a good way for Henrik to get to another team. DET eats the cap hit, (gets 22nd OA), then he's bought out, then free to go anywhere as a FA to back up on a contender.
Seems like a win - win. Expect for the 25% of salary Henrik is missing, but his new team would probably cover that.

I would hope DET would get a FA Goalie for a year or two before trading away assets for a goalie.
Only way I'd like to see DET trade for a G is if they get a young stud back by taking on a bad contract.

I think you a 'sure' from DET. I like Nemeth, he's a good stay at home Dman. Could be a good partner for Seider if he plays up this season.
But DET gets a pick, and a young player to hopefully fill in a C role..... sure.

Don't understand the DET trade. Why is DET giving up one of their top D prospects and a pick, to get a bottom six forward?
DET is a team of bottom six forwards, we have plenty of those anyways.

AGM - Search by player
Nice addition would be to be able to search trades on AGM, by player. As in I could go into the AGM, and search for 'Player X' and see all the trade offers for him.
Would be a neat feature to gauge people's value of him. See the difference in offers.

IF a Mantha trade was going to happan (still doubt it), this is more of the type of deal I'd be behind. Still would prefer to have Mantha, but this is the best deal I've seen.
If Byron was taken out of the deal, could we reduce the 2nd round pick to something less? That would be my only critique.
Going to be fun seeing MON fans turning down a Mantha trade for once. ha

Mantha trade, the problem isn't the value. So sure, in a parallel universe, this trade would work.
However, I don't see Mantha being traded to MON unless it includes Suzuki. Which I would imagine it would be a deal killer for MON. I'm not even a MON fan and I think it is a deal killer. ha
Also, I really don't see Yzerman bringing back Drouin when he's the one who traded him out of TB.
I only see Mantha being traded for a position of need, which would be #1 Dman.

Dzingel - Maybe... he's 28, might be a little older than what I would try to add for a player I would want to build though a rebuild.
Jordie Benn - I would pass, only because if I was going to give a roster spot to an aging vet, I would go after Boychuk (NYI) or Staal (NYR), where I would think DET could GAIN an asset for taking that player, rather than give one up.
Demko - I'm in. I'm all for any deal that centers on Loui and Demko. These are the kind of deals I want to see happan. Weaponize the cap space, and take in 'bad deals' to bring in good assets. Use the cap space to speed up the rebuild.

A deal that centers around DET taking Loui, and getting Demko or more for their troubles, I'm in.
The other details (what picks) would be add ons would just be minor details to me. But DET would not be trading down in anyway.

Feel like TB would easily match that, because they could easily trade him with that cap hit for much more than the OS compensation.
Also, like others said, I doubt he signs for that salary.

Ya, it’s some term to deal with. But a first rounder helps the rebuild. Plus he’s better off producing at a 4M pace than a 6M pace. 2C option maybe
Not saying I love the idea, but having Turris at 4M is a lot easier to swallow than at 6M.
