Yeah my bad for Hronek definitely higher.
Matheson is top 10 in D points this year for a 5M contract why is everyone here so low on him, better year than Weegar, Dahlin, Seider. And you think he's worth less than a 40 point winger with size ? I was being nice to Utah.
Stamkos is a good friend of Marty and has nothing to prove anymore with 2 cups, probably promise him 1st line minutes with 1st PP and add 1-2 million extra per year than Tampa. Off course he can still stay there for 4x7M but the idea is not far fetch he could land in Montreal

I get it and what they would need is a veteran D with term and that's not what we have to offer. I would see NJ package Holtz with something for Hronek

Next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WhoCares_ItsAFantasyGame</b></div><div>I'm thinking he's moving him out because of the same points you are making. First time he's been consistent. Trade him while he's got value and won't lose him to UFA as he's saying those things to the Habs thinking he's worth 5M$/yr. At 1.5M$/x1 I'd keep him if it wasn't for Gally and Anderson taking the right wing, but at 3.4M$ if someone is willing to take him for depth and a contract year player who will give it all to get that next contract, it's a good move for a team looking to rebuild and have a few players able to move into his spot.
He's back into playing mode, but you want to maximize the return on that player.</div></div>
Then don't trade him in the off season but at the 2025 TDL where instead of getting a 4th round he might even fetch a late 2nd with retention. If he starts the year well and gets his (15-20 goals / 10-15 assists) on 50ish matches we will get a good return.
Taking our final retention spot right now removes any type of flexibility during the year on other contracts.
Dvorak is an other player we might need that retention spot at the TDL (there's also always broker teams)

Not sold on Lundell for the asking price I've seen on this website. "
Panthers are in win mode, why would we trade him"
We got Newhook from a win mode now team for 2 x 30th picks. I would think he would fetch little higher than that.
(A) Prospect + NHL player + high pick :
Farrel/Mesar + Harris/Barron/Struble + MTL 2nd 2025
Something along those lines, however people will ask for :
Farrel + Mailloux + MTL 2025 1st

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharcuda22</b></div><div>I would disagree quite a bit. Duclair and Zetterlund put up similar points totals but they play very differently. Zett is more in line with typical be big and hit hockey guys. I also never said he was worth a first that was you again. Barron and Zetterlund have quite a gap in value. Zetterlund is already a proven NHLer, and Barron is not demonstrably better than the RD we already have in Ruuta Burroughs Benning Emberson or Thompson. We just dont need a player like him and certainly not as the main piece coming back in a trade for Zetterlund. The value isnt close.</div></div>
So Zetterlund isn't worth a 1st
Barron value is still a high 2nd
But you're saying the value isn't close ? Maybe you don't personally want Barron and that's fine but you shouldn't be saying the value is off (adding Ylonen also btw that still has some limited value)
What would be a fair ask then ?

But honestly the 9-10 millions , I’m for that style of overpay if it’s a huge player that’s gonna help turn the corner. But if he wants more than 2-3 years clearly not.</div></div>
Yah I just don't want to do like the Penguins and overpay for aura and end up paying Letang till he's 41 7M per year.
Also, I don't see Stamkos wanting to come to MTL but Marchessault probably would. Only time will tell but we definitely need a 2nd line RW, Stamkos C and Dach RW would be nice even if I prefer having Dach at C long term

I get what your saying for size but Stamkos is actually older then Marchessault so no need to bring that as an argument . Stamkos won't get an 100pts season and is likey also to fall off.
Would I prefer a bigger body like Stamkos? Yeah definitely but I'm not willing to spend 8-9.5M for the next 3-5 years
I'm 100 % on board to get bigger, draft Lindstrom and go trade for size for someone like Lawson Crouse or similar build. However we need goal scoring on the wings for Dach and Marchessault for 3 year fits that role

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharcuda22</b></div><div>There is no, its sarcasm because its value is way off and the main piece coming back is one the sharks already have x100. I also want to clarify that I never said the return for Zett would be a 1++. If he’s plays at the same pace and someone wants to trade for him. That’s a RFA 20 goal scorer x2 making under 2million and team control. He’s also a profile the sharks really really like. that means if he is gonna move it’s gonna be an over pay. You chose to take overpay as meaning 1st++ I didn’t say that headhack</div></div>
I get it I'm exaggerating of course but even assuming that he's worth a 1st is far fetched but I could see it happening in the future. However this type of player on a contender is a 3rd line winger that's probably in the 30-40 range similar to Duclair who just fetched 2 x 3rd rounders at the TDL.
Duclair similar type of player however not the same contract situation with control, however available on the market just to name him... Hence trading Barron for Zetterlund (25 this summer) value wise isn't far fetched as you're portraying it to be.

Zetterlund had a 40pts season on a depleted Sharks team with 1st line minutes and PP. I like him as a 3rd liner RW which is what we need but let's not pretend he's worth 2 x 1st and a A prospect.
IMO Barron is already an overpay. Might not move him as you need NHL caliber players but yeah he ain't untouchable.

If Dvo had 2-3 more years maybe it would be a cap dump (not for a 1st tho), Canadiens have cap space and will not be competing for the cup anyways next year.
By TDL next year if he was +-25 points with 10 goal he will be flipped for 3rd pick with half salary retention. No need to cap dump him, if that player would be Anderson you're offer would make more sense however this won't happen for Buf

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ujeje</b></div><div>Okay so first year is going Atkinson <-> Anderson and our 2nd for Barron. Seems about right. Then Flyers are taking cap dump of 5,5M for 2 years. That's worth about 19th ovr. So this is just missing that WPG first and changing that 3rd for Habs 3rd instead.
Anderson with that contract is considered as a cap dump for Flyers (and anyone else), may he be more suitable for Flyers than Habs or not. Right now he would still be 4th liner at most, and for that you can have players for 1M if needed. RW is already the least wanted position for Flyers. And yes I'm aware he's able to skate on LW also but RW is the natural position.
But after all this rant I also agree that he ain't that bad player, just not worth that contract, not even close. Retain 50% and it's already a different story.</div></div>
I think retraining 50% would indeed make way more sense and you could flip him last year with a extra retention to gain a pick in 2026-2027.
I see Anderson as a good 3rd liner in the good system however that system is not Montreal. Not throwing in the towel just yet tho, might have a bounce back season next year and flip him with retention for a mid pick instead of paying a 1st to dump him

Edit. The proposal you saw was made by a Habs fan.</div></div>
To be fair we're taking Atkinson so it's a cap hit of 5.5 for 2 extra years and you get a RD with potential of being top 4.
Also Anderson under Marty St Louis isn't working right now and hes already said he liked to work with Torts. On this same website a year ago people were willing to acquire Josh for a late first. I don't think he's a bad player, I think a change a scenery would bring him back to a physical 40 pt winger and would fit well on the Philly culture

No retention on Josh Anderson and since we're not competing next year for the cup I would see Montreal using Cam next year till trade deadline with retention for a low pick.

I think 2 x high 1st, top goalie prospect, 2nd and Top 5OA RD to match your amazing left D's is value wise faire.
However I said value wise, I totally understand that Buffalo would never do this because it would set them back 3-4 years and after missing 12 years straight the playoffs probably not where you wanna go.
This trade definitely has more value for Montreal In the short term

I mean value wise it works but I highly doubt they want multiple B-assets for a A-player, Matheson isn't moving the needle for them as they already have veteran that fill the similar role (Skjei, Slavin).
Probably Mailloux or Hutson for replacement of Burns would be something they would want as a package for Necas

And also undersized kid name Gabe perreault is probably bad also cause he plays on the same line as Cutter Gauthier and Will Smith at Boston college.
He's not a sure star NHL player, but don't tell me he's not a top D prospect....
