Creative Tavares contract offer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>If it's about linemates and teammates, he probably is okay with Ovechkin and Oshie for twenty minutes a night, and Braden Holtby backing him up, though.
And nobody's offering to throw in Nick Backstrom, and three different Isles fans so far think the Norris favorite is a good enough return for their about-to-be-overpaid about-to-be-second-line center.
From the players' standpoint, Carlson is reported to want to be closer to his childhood home of New Jersey. Tavares is reported to want a chance to win the Cup. Ovechkin and Backstrom are among the active leaders in playoff points per game. Holtby is the active leader in playoff save percentage. If he wants an automatic cup, he offers himself at 3M to play 4C in Pittsburgh and doesn't even have to work out. But if he just wants a chance, and also wants to be sure he retires as fabulously wealthy as he can imagine, he takes an eight year deal at a slightly reasonable cap hit to join a team with a three or four year competitive window before it blows up and lets him have a lot of say in where he goes next. Washington has made such deals before with Ovechkin and Oshie. Yes, the logistics are tricker than each player just signing and staying put. Washington also loses a #1 defenseman. So it's a good thing they've got one or two more.</div></div>
How often do you see a sign & trade in hockey tho?
I suppose right now Washington & NYI could swap Tavares for Carlson's negotiating rights if that's whats been discussed..
I'm a fan of neither team so I'm indifferent. IMO, I just think Washington would have to offer up more than just Carlson for Tavares, I mean Tavares is by far the better player....

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Yeah, like trading a player to one team, but half his contract to another team.....
Anyway, I still think Tavares for Carlson makes the Islanders a lot better, and the Caps end up just as good, but with a roster spot to bring Green back.</div></div>
Obviously you're talking about a sign & trade. That would be interesting but the logistics are kinda complicated, and I would think Washington would have to offer up more. Backstrom for Tavares seems right.
I see Tavares signing in Vegas. They need a face for their franchise, they're a good team, they have a bright future and they have the cap space.
If it's about money the Rangers will probably offer the most. You can bet they would love to poach Tavares - just because, lol.

I'm not so sure about that...
Seabrook would be a huge loss, Bowman knows this... Morale matters and trading one of your leaders will have consequences. Not only that but the Hawks don't have a legitimate replacement for Seabrook.. I don't see Bowman moving him, unless it was an offer Bowman couldn't refuse..
Seabrook has an NMC for a reason - it's because he wants to play in Chicago.
The only time I could see Bowman asking Seabrook to waive his NMC would be if he was in "cap hell" again - outside of that tho, I think it would rude for Bowman to ask Seabrook to waive his NMC, and there is a good chance Seabrook would find it rude too, would you? I would be slighted if my GM asked me to move my NMC - it would make me feel unwelcome. I win 3 cups and the second I become a hindrance, you want to trade me?

But I don't like that order, so I do it until I get this order:

2. Edmonton
3. Ottawa
That order I accept as fact - as reality - the way it belongs.

God, Islanders fans are like an obsessive ex-spouse, look you gotta get it through your heads that Tavares doesn't want to be with Long Island anymore... The relationship is over, it's in the past. Just value the memories you have, the good times. You gotta move on and talk to some different free agents because Tavares doesn't want to be with you anymore. He's probably packing his stuff as a write this..
It just didn't work out.

The only players I see possibly traded this summer are Anisimov (probable), Duclair (maybe) & Murphy (highly unlikely but possible)..
There is ZERO way Bowman trades Saad.
If a GM wants Seabrook I would listen but I see Bowman being committed to Seabrook, I mean he signed a 6.875 deal with a full NMC or a reason., but one would have to think ti would be awfully tempting to accept any offer.. But like I have pointed out in other discussions about Seabrook, asking him to move his NMC could potentially piss off not only Seabrook but he entire team. So with all that said I think the Hawks are stuck with him. Seabrook is still useful, maybe he has a monster 18-19 season?

I collect a lot of vintage Hall of Famers so, Lafleur is a staple of that. I would love to pull a Lafleur memorabilia card one of these days but my luck with autos and memorabilia isn't all that great... I've been thinking of buying some Upper Deck Black to compensate, lol but at $25-30 a pack it's just too crazy for me.

Hockey cards thread
I picked up a bunch of stuff this weekend on ebay.... Got a case of "junk wax" of mixed boxes from the 90's for $50 bucks shipped. UD, Score, Pro Set Platinum, Topps, Fleer Ultra, OPC - stuff like that is fun to open, maybe I will find something good but I doubt it... It's just fun to rip packs and for $50 bucks you cant go wrong with 20 boxes. Opening it takes be back to when I was a kid opening the same stuff. lol.
I also got a lot of 15-16 Upper Deck with an almost complete base set, 10-15 young guns (inc Panarin & Max Domi canvas), 10-15 canvas cards and 10-15 Shining Stars & Portraits and a couple of jerseys - not bad for $10 bucks, I could get $15 for the Panarin Young Gun alone..
I also bought a crap-ton (100+) of very nice and authentic looking Topps baseball reprint cards - Topps cards of Jackie Robinson, Mantle, Koufax, Aaron, Babe Ruth etc, but mostly Topps from 1951-1969, for .25 cents each I couldn't pass up the opportunity... I also got a handful of 1979 OPC Gretzky reprints in the lot too which is kinda cool.. I have a 1979-80 OPC set in card pages in a binder and the Gretzky slot is blank because I have the card in a screwdown holder so the reprint will fill that slot well in the binder....

1. Tavares will sign with the Vegas Golden Knights.
2. Karlsson will start the year in Ottawa.
3. The most surprising player(s) to be traded will be Bobby Ryan, Mike Hoffman & Mark Stone.
4. James Neal and David Perron with both sign with Vegas.
5. Ottawa, Chicago & NYR will be very busy.
6. Mike Hoffman, Mark Stone & Bobby Ryan will be traded.
7. Evander Kane will sign in San Jose.
8. One, Trevor van Riemsdyk back to Chicago.
9. Svechnikov will be drafted 2nd overall at the Draft.
10. Blackhawks will add to their roster, that's why they will be a busy team.

The Blackhawks offer Anthony Duclair & Nashville's 2018 first round pick (29th overall) for Bobby Ryan & Ottawa's 2018 first round pick (2nd overall)..
You can dump Ryan and keep Karlsson... Not only that but that's not a bad return for dumping Ryan to keep Karlsson... You basically get a decent young player in Ducliar and you still walk out of the draft with 2 first round picks... Moving from 2nd overall to 29th overall to dump 29 million in salary isn't that bad, especially when it means you can now keep Karlsson.

Getting stonger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Like the trade but....
Cap will go up again likely to $82M in 2019/2020 so would make sense to go after another forward or two. Either one big impact player like James Neal, David Perron or even JVR or E Kane could be huge. A softer approach is someone like Riley Nash, Patrick Maroon, Wingels to fill in the bottom 6. Where is Martinsen....he looked great as a optional checking 4th liner to rotate in and out of the lineup.
Cat needs to play 2nd line minutes not Ritchie.
DEFENSE is the biggest need for the Hawks. They have too many 3rd line D guys in the system an not enough in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions. Need a vet, Calvin De Hann maybe?
No way does Bouchard come into the league and play on the top line...not a chance; he's 18 years old and never has played at the AHL level let alone NHL. Also, where is Jokiharju?
Also, need to carry 22 players.</div></div>
Defense should be first and foremost but the Hawks need to make improvements at forward too.
The Hawks need a top 4 and bottom 6 defensemen, and the Hawks could really use a couple of defensive specialist forwards to fill out the bottom 6.. Vermette, Wingels and Dominic Moore would be nice, then perhaps sign John Moore and trade for a guy like Faulk and the Hawks would be set..
If Bowman makes some trades and has enough cap space after that filling that #2 LW spot should be looked at... The Hawks could use a legitimate backup too, because I'm not so sure that Forsberg or Berube is ready.
The Hawks really are a handful of veteran depth players/specialists away from contending again - this UFA class has everything the Hawks need and hopefully Bowman will have enough cap to take advantage of it.
Either way I think we will have a better idea about what could happen after the draft lottery..... Because if the Hawks win any of the top 3 picks things will certainly change because all 3 top picks are NHL ready and the Hawks landing any of them would be huge.

Getting stonger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>The reality is, Anisimov will likely be packaged with a young D, draft pick and traded. Vermette is good for a 4th line option but not sure he is needed especially if Nash comes to the Hawks and also considering Martinsen needs to get picked up. If not De Haan, Thomas Hickey would be a great option.
Hawks aren't in cap hell, they have money to spend. With the changes you just made, carrying an extra guy that isn't necessary, they have $9M in cap space. They would be wise to spend at least $5M which could fit Hickey and Riley Nash potentially. If Anisimov is gone like most project, the Hawks will have $13.5M available in your scenario and open up a lot of options like Carlsson.</div></div>
I think Bowman is going to use Anisimov as bait to move up in the draft, acquire another pick or a top 4 defenseman.
Schmaltz is the #2 center of the future, Anisimov just doesn't fit and his cap hit could be used to fill a hole.... So unless Anisimov is playing #2 LW, he will be traded.
I would love to see a Anivimov for Faulk & Kruger or Faulk and Darling trade.

Sign Kovalchuk to a 1-year deal, bring in Mike Green too for that matter - make a run.

Blackhawk Fans, Need Some Feedback
The problem is that Bowman couldn't justify trading Toews (Keith, Kane or Seabrook for that matter).... Toews is the face of the franchise and a part of the foundation
Sure, if you take the reality out of the situation and it was Lou that was inquiring and Bowman was listening this is what I would expect as a Hawks fan:
:blackhawks
Nylander
Kadri
Gardnier
2018 first round pick
:mapleleafs
Toews
Forsling
Duclair
Of course in reality, Leafs don't do that and Bowman doesn't take offers on Toews... Heck I doubt a GM's would even think about asking about Toews - I assume they all know he's untouchable.

What if the salary cap went down 7.5 million?
With all the nonsense going on in the NFL and the financial hit the league has taken from last season I wonder what would happen if the NHL took a 10% loss in gross revenue? because the salary cap is tied to gross revenue.
This was something I pondered way back when the salary cap was put in place. What would happen if teams couldn't get under the cap ceiling? this is one of the flaws with the salary cap, because such a scenario is very possible - highly unlikely but possible. I mean right now 21 out of the 31 teams are presently within only 3.5 million of the caps upper limit and only 9 teams have over 5 million in cap space so when you think about it if the salary cap did go down 7-10 million the NHL would break the salary cap - in that case players would get peanuts - literally peanuts ... 2 million for a guy that would otherwise make 8 or 9 million. You figure at that point the NHLPA would step in and crap would hit the fan..
And IMO, this is bound to happen at some point, and when it does happen it will send the NHL into crisis mode. I would like to think the NHL has a plan for this in the event it happens.
Has anyone else ever thought about this?
Right now if the salary cap went down 10 million only Arizona and Carolina would have cap space.. That is a real issue.

Biggest off-season impact?
I think cap space will have the biggest impact because cap space will play a role in where all those players end up, I mean taking on a Tavares or Karlsson is a big deal... Not only that but cap space will dictate just about every move a team makes, it will also dictate what players get as free agents....I don't see where Tavares or Karlsson ends up affecting the league as a whole but the salary cap will..... Also, 21 out of 31 teams are within 3.5 million of the upper limit right now and I'm sure next season will be similar so if the salary cap goes up to 80 or 82 million that will make a huge difference for most teams...
So yea, absolutely the salary cap will play the biggest role, yea sure to some extent where Karlsson and Tavares lands will play a role in the divisions these guys end up but and teams are going to make moves to keep pace with that but ultimately it will be the salary cap that dictates how these team can respond..
Either way this should be an interesting off season with teams getting a nice chunk of cap space to work with and Tavares and maybe Karlsson on the market..
Funny, Dorion said he wasn't going to move Karlsson at the draft watch him move him a day before the draft, lol..... I don't think Karlsson is getting traded IMO..
