Retool not rebuild
How in the hell do we still not acknowledge the need for a rebuild? Nothing will ever come from a retool in this franchise especially considering the evidence of the last 5 years. This team is no where near good enough to challenge with a retool. They need to focus on firing mark kelley and getting a better head of amateur scouting, trade all older players who can bring value, and actually get a coaching staff that can GROW the ****ing prospects.
It’s agonizing to see this still be a debate.

Whats the cost
Honestly there’s no reason to go after turcotte let alone the oilers players. Dach hasn’t panned out the right way so right off the bat I don’t trust the hawks to grow turcotte properly. The kings’ll find a way to either make him what they want him to be or move on. But the hawks are not a good place for turcotte.
As for the oilers, I agree with chiarelli to an extent. There really is no one on the hawks worth acquiring for that price. Debrincat definitely isn’t worth it for the oilers to take a run at either. Not a chance. Fleury might be the only appetizing piece the hawks have for the oilers and even we’d have to take back koskinen.
Suffice to say, the hawks are just in a really bad spot right now where they can’t grow their own talent anymore (especially true ones who NEED to pan out) and even the pieces we acquire through other means just don’t work to move the needle. They desperately need a full rebuild. But management and hawks fans alike are too stubborn to acknowledge that need.

It’s not not bad, just be nice if they actually had some foundation included in them. One to two years of them? I couldn’t give a rat’s ass. Especially when you don’t recoup any assets for like Suter. Kahun to a lesser extent. Even panarin was wasted, as was kampf. I’m just saying, I don’t care how good the hawks are at recruiting European players if they don’t manage make them part of the long term future OR trade them for decent assets. Hawks fans talk a lot about asset management. WE SUCK AT IT!
Oh yea, and has anyone’s value been tanked by a team more than kubalik? Even in spite of his getting his start under us, not a chance a team should give up a first for him. Also, the whole Gus situation is another reminder of poor asset management, he should have been traded when he was at 1st round pick level. Instead, we actually thought we were good enough for the playoffs and capitulated. Turns out, that would only the 2nd worst choice the hawks made in 2019, no?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Here's the catch 22 with that though. If you trade his rights, that just allows a different team to take him to arbitration. Suter won't like that AND agents/Euro prospects see that stuff. Then look at it from DETs pov. Why is Stevie Y going to give up an asset for someone he can have for free. I understand that CHI could have got a pick, but thats at the risk of the Euro pipeline continuing. The Hawks need that pipeline more than a minor pick imo.
The Hawks have The Best track record of Euro talent getting big deals over any other NHL organization.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlickWilly</b></div><div>Yep. Our european pipeline reputation is more important than a 3rd round pick</div></div>
It’s kinda funny seeing “reputation” and “Blackhawks” being used in a positive way these days. As for the hawks and euro pipeline, we may have a good record of getting them over here, but we also know how to waste them as well. The hawks are just a stepping stone for euro players, not a final destination of success and longevity.

That is completely fair. We’re definitely not as bad as those teams. However, to be fair, if we’re trying to say we’re not as bad as those teams, we’re having the wrong conversation. We’re simply saying we’re top of the bottom to middle of the middle.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wadejos123</b></div><div>In the unlikley event we get Wright, he is our 1C of the future. If/when we don't get him then yes, we need a 1C. I'm starting to think Dach isn't it.
I think Jones is a #1 D. Jones has been very good this year for us. People like to discount his play for the fact that we overpaid his contract and way overpaid to get him in the trade. The trade is done and the contract is signed, nothing we can do to undo that at this point. Regardless of all that Jones has been very good. Hawks need another top Dman on the Left. All those hawks teams that won cups had Kieth and Seabrook who were both top pair guys in their primes. Plus the compliment D men like hjalmerson and oduya ( current Mccabe and Murphy). If jones if our new Kieth, the hawks need to find their seabrook. That's the problem on D imo.
Hawks do need to retool and tostock the cubboards a bit with prospects but I don't think were going to be in a world where the hawks suck for the next 5+ years. A lot of the main pieces are there, and the haul we should get for what feels like the inevitible Kane trade should help things out as well. I don't see a reason why the hawks count't retool for like 2 years and be right back where the Rangers are now.</div></div>
Dach isn’t the guy. I know people think I’m a hater on this site but come on, he’s gotta prove me wrong at some point right?
Yes, the Jones deal is done, but as to the point of a left side dman, who do you get? I don’t mean to make it sound grim, but wasn’t McCabe suppose to be that guy possibly? Murphy is a fan favorite but that hasn’t exactly translated to better defense. The hawks haven’t done anything to develop any of those defensive prospects fans were so high on two and a half years ago (remember the logjam that made people pick Dach over byram?). My concern is that between Jones’ deal, McCabe’s deal, and Murphy’s deal, who are we gonna sign that’s marquee? We’re not getting chycrun (misspell I know) and I don’t foresee any top pairing left handers being readily available in free agency.
The difference between the hawks and rangers is beyond comparison. The rangers actually had players in their prime who underperformed for a year or two, which landed them even better players. The hawks have had bad drafts, bad prospects, and players past their prime to the point that they only had one top 3 pick and they botched that one. We’re nothing like the rangers sadly. We also have an inexperienced coach at the helm who whole better than JC isn’t the long term answer. I get the optimism, but the hawks aren’t in a good place.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wadejos123</b></div><div>If we get Wright it's easier to try to go in as a conteder in 2023. In theroy Wright, Dach, Debrincat, Jones, and Reichel is a good core to move forward with with Comesso hopefully waiting in the wings to be the next starting goalie. If we miss on Wright which we most likley will then idk, the prospect pool kinda sucks and it might be time to rebuild</div></div>
In the unlikely event that we did get Wright, it still wouldn’t make a contender even on paper. Between fleury most likely leaving and coaching still being a mess, the team needs to finally REBUILD. We still need a 1C, 1D (it ain’t Jones), and various other pieces.
Even more importantly, this team seriously needs to learn how to develop talent. Every defensive prospect has been a mess and Dach has been subpar at best. I loved reichel when we drafted but now I’m actually getting worried for his future. As for commesso, that’s still three to four years from being a chance. Sadly, the hawks haven’t done anything lately to suggest he’ll pan out. Start selling and rip off the bandaid.

I feel like between strome and now kubalik, the hawks have done a poor job of protecting or even building up trade value in their players. I genuinely don’t know or even think a team would be willing to trade a late 1st for kuba based on his qualifying offer. The hawks have got to start churning out young talent like the use to, cuz they don’t have a future if they don’t. Dach has still been underwhelming offensively as is, and that’s the worst one yet.

The middle two yes. Connolly too? TJ still has three years though. All I’m saying is this situation will more than likely play out like 2017-2019 did. Just adding pieces that don’t move the meter enough. Don’t forget this assumes we don’t resign Kane and toews, which would hamstring us further.

Well, think of it this way, at 75% of that goes towards Jones, cat, and Dach. So you got 5 mil left over. Gotta resign Hagel, kurashev, possibly kuba if they keep him, and even strome if they keep him, or borgstrom.
I get what you’re saying, but they got lots of money to repurpose to existing players unfortunately. They’re not gonna be in nearly as good a situation as it looks. Jones’ extension some is huge problem no matter how he turns out.

I would like to make it clear I want nothing to do with Fleury. But it's clear you didn't think of the other teams perspective at all. Many of these deals, especially the Fleury deal, are absolutely ridiculous in todays salary cap environment. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>The Fleury-to-Edmonton deal was underwhelming, but I think that has a lot more with me just not liking the idea of using a first on a goalie than it does the actual trade. That's probably what it'll be, maybe Turris headed to Chicago as well?
That's some Dach-Holloway deal. Really exciting move for both clubs but Edmonton is clearly getting the better player, at least right now. it's not wildly unfair though? It's the contract stuff for me though: Holloway being cheaper for longer is going to be very important for the Oilers over the next few seasons. Don't know if I could pass up on it though. This feels a lot like when Kevin Lowe was offered Corey Perry and a pick for Mike Comrie back in the day: I can't help but wonder that the "darn, only if" feeling Oilers fans have regarding that deal would apply the same after either outcome of a Dach-Holloway swap.</div></div>
I get the feeling the fleury trade, to whom ever it is, will play out kinda boring and straight in all honesty.
As for Dach-Holloway, I really do not like Dach at all. He doesn’t use his size to its potential, his shot is very bad, and even with Kane and debrincat he still remains an albatross offensively. He’s good defensively, but for a guy who is suppose to be the 1C of Chicago’s future, he isn’t even showing that potential anymore. In all fairness, he really isn’t even a center, he’s a winger. He can’t win faceoffs and center doesn’t seem enable any playmaking from him consistently. Dach was drafted number 3 in 2019 and already zegras, seider, hughes, newhook, byram, and even caufield (based on his playoff run) have all exceeded him.

That’s why I added the trigger warning was cat and Dach. I can see that happening. When Kane is gone, better yet if he’s traded, I can see cat wanting to bail. As for Dach, the hughes extension threw everything into flux. If he asks for 6-7+, trade his ass. He’s not worth that, and he’s far enough along that you can’t pay for potential anymore. Murphy is tough. I get why you’d not want him to leave, and in all reality his injury history might not net a great return.
Either way, it isn’t about getting rid of the youth we have. This is if we lack a clear direction with players who are producing or the youth actually wanna leave or get greedy. Cuz cat, Dach, and whoever else gotta look at this team and know that they won’t be serious contenders for another decade.
