Description
This is definitely gonna trigger hawks fans. So spoiler alert.

Rip apart at the seems. As I said earlier, there is still no direction in this team. Once Kane and toews are gone, cat, Dach, Jones, and the rest are not the answer. As one hawks fan on this site has said many times, the goal is the cup, not just playoffs. If that’s the case, we still don’t have any foundations. Since the poison of the front office has been largely cleaned out, I think it’s to try and throw in a clean slate for the roster as well.

I’ll also be adding logic and opinions as to why each trade is happening as well. The only way the hawks ever compete again, as Alfred once said to Bruce: “endure, master Wayne.”

Kane: Kane can win a cup with a contending team. Nuff said. He also brings value back and the rangers have been mentioned as one of his few teams he’d go to.

Fleury: this one feels obvious. Give him a chance one more time before we potentially retires. Who needs a goalie more than the oilers?

Toews: off the top, I know I’m trading him in this thread, but that’s because logically I have no idea who the hell would take him. Too much risk at too much cap. Let his contract go up and let him choose his path.

Debrincat: oh boy, trigger alert here. Hear me out. Cat and Kane are joined at the hip. However, Kane has always made others better while cat is more questionable. If Kane were traded, I do wonder if cat would want out considering the writing would be on the wall for the hawks. So, as his contract continues to tick down, I wonder if it’s worth hearing offers.

Kubalik: I feel like the writing is already on the wall for this one.

Dach: hehe, take it easy, I have no clue what his value is and no clue what a decent trade would look like. That being said, if Dach asks 7 mil per in his first post elc contract, Kirby, **** off. He’s not even in the top 3 of players currently from his draft year, may even be outside top 5.

Mitchell, beaudin, regula: I’ll be the first to admit I always want to build through the draft. But i think the hawks have completely lost the plot on these three. I know dmen take time, but beaudin looks short on confidence, Mitchell never looked like he could handle the size involved in the nhl, and regula could be the next great AHL all star. I’m not reading them in this thread, but I’m not optimistic.

Murphy: don’t want to elaborate on this one, other than to say, get some value out of him and hope his injury history isn’t a burden. A healthy Murphy is decent.

Nylander: because obviously

This isn't a trigger warning at all. They're not contenders and it's better to tear it down than try to build it back up. The issue I have is giving up on the young guys we already have. I get all the Kane/MAF/Kubalik stuff. It's the Dach/Debrincat/Murphy trades that don't make sense.

Yeah, it's not like the leafs have great defensive numbers in the top 5 of the league or something. Oh wait

That’s why I added the trigger warning was cat and Dach. I can see that happening. When Kane is gone, better yet if he’s traded, I can see cat wanting to bail. As for Dach, the hughes extension threw everything into flux. If he asks for 6-7+, trade his ass. He’s not worth that, and he’s far enough along that you can’t pay for potential anymore. Murphy is tough. I get why you’d not want him to leave, and in all reality his injury history might not net a great return.

Either way, it isn’t about getting rid of the youth we have. This is if we lack a clear direction with players who are producing or the youth actually wanna leave or get greedy. Cuz cat, Dach, and whoever else gotta look at this team and know that they won’t be serious contenders for another decade.

Yeah, i mean it's not like it has been scoring that has been the issue for the leafs in the past two seasons playoffs, not defence. Oh wait.

The Fleury-to-Edmonton deal was underwhelming, but I think that has a lot more with me just not liking the idea of using a first on a goalie than it does the actual trade. That's probably what it'll be, maybe Turris headed to Chicago as well?

That's some Dach-Holloway deal. Really exciting move for both clubs but Edmonton is clearly getting the better player, at least right now. it's not wildly unfair though? It's the contract stuff for me though: Holloway being cheaper for longer is going to be very important for the Oilers over the next few seasons. Don't know if I could pass up on it though. This feels a lot like when Kevin Lowe was offered Corey Perry and a pick for Mike Comrie back in the day: I can't help but wonder that the "darn, only if" feeling Oilers fans have regarding that deal would apply the same after either outcome of a Dach-Holloway swap.

I get the feeling the fleury trade, to whom ever it is, will play out kinda boring and straight in all honesty.

As for Dach-Holloway, I really do not like Dach at all. He doesn’t use his size to its potential, his shot is very bad, and even with Kane and debrincat he still remains an albatross offensively. He’s good defensively, but for a guy who is suppose to be the 1C of Chicago’s future, he isn’t even showing that potential anymore. In all fairness, he really isn’t even a center, he’s a winger. He can’t win faceoffs and center doesn’t seem enable any playmaking from him consistently. Dach was drafted number 3 in 2019 and already zegras, seider, hughes, newhook, byram, and even caufield (based on his playoff run) have all exceeded him.

15 game of Fleury costs the same as control of Kubalik? Oilers would prefer Kubalik in that case.

I would like to make it clear I want nothing to do with Fleury. But it's clear you didn't think of the other teams perspective at all. Many of these deals, especially the Fleury deal, are absolutely ridiculous in todays salary cap environment. Even with retention, Oilers can't just take on $3.5M without sending the same if not more back. A few other deals have the same theme.

That’s a no from COL. You could maybe get COL to talk Barron and 1st no way adding LOC who is Sakic’s last eat gift to the team of awesome contracts and the 2nd. Also nothing against DeBrincat but the Avs definitely want to add more size than what he has.

DeBrincat is a nice player but that’s the equivalent of 2 1st rd pick a 2nd and very good very cheap middle 6 guy. Imo that’s the kind of trade the team giving up those assets regrets long term because on the Avs DeBrincat is a 2nd liner and that’s a 1st liner price. But much respect for you comment.

Not a fan of this from the Rangers perspective. Only further compounds the cap issues the team is gonna have.
