<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LFG</b></div><div>Do you really think petry gets traded so soon? He blocked the SJ trade for this long. Just curious as to how Montreal fans think he is gonna be gone before the puck drops for 2024.
Bahahahahahaha. Dude the 1st is even top 10 protected. SJ got fleeced because their owners suck. SJ fans trying to back track like they all wanted to just dump salary when a week ago they wanted 3 first round assets for EK alone. Just stop. SJ also isnt competing anytime soon. In 4 years they still wont be relevent and will be the laughing stock they always have been. Theyre the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NHL.</div></div>
Goodluck Pens are pretty close to being irrelevant with ZERO prospects in the pipeline. 1960’s-80’s Trash Penguins all over again.. crazy to think they’re still just the 4-5th “best” team in the Metro even after this trade. Wouldn’t be surprised if they miss the playoffs yet again.. with an aging injury prone core.
Come back in April and tell me how this trade looks. SJ won long term. In 2-3 years they’ll have 6 grade A prospects on the NHL roster making a name for themselves. They’ll be the next Devils , young talented core with tons of Cap space to add to FA’s.

Great for Pittsburgh (short term at least), and for Montreal, as they upgrade from Hoffman to Petry and get paid to do it.</div></div>
EK’s huge contract and age.. his 100+ season was an insane year. I hope he can replicate it again but honestly i don’t see that happening he’ll probably be 60-70 point guy this year. Pitt better hope that everyone can stay healthy because in that division they are 4th maybe 5th best team on paper.. that gets you barely a wild card into the playoffs.. depending on what the Atlantic does.

Interesting trade, not quite sure what Pitt is thinking with the whole retaining thing? They get SJ to retain 1.5M off EK but then turn around and retain 1.5M off Petry for MTL? It’s a complete wash , makes no sense.
Dubas wants so bad to win NOW with Pitt to prove himself.. it’s either going 1 of two ways.. either Pitt wins a cup .. which is probably only a 2 year window left or they miss playoffs again/have major injuries and now they’re stuck with paying two RD 16M for the next 4+ years , not a good look. Dubas will be Axed from the league if this doesn’t work out. His handling of contracts and inability to get Toronto over the top with that talent .. what makes u think he can do it with 4 aging 35+ year old star players ? He better be praying.
EK thrives off being “THE GUY” there’s a reason why he struggled when Burns was still in SJ. You can’t have two OFD with EK, he needs to be out there on every PP playing 26+ minutes a night.
SJ comes away as the winner in this all. In 2 years from now it’ll be even more obvious. They dump EK’s huge contract, get 1st round pick and two proven serviceable 2/3rd liners that are responsible 2 way forwards who can teach SJ’s young guys coming up. If both healthy Granlund and Hoff are 50 point guys . Only thing I would’ve like to see is SJ get a B+ or higher level prospect out of this. They only took Rutta because Pitt needed to dump some cap. SJ is 3-4 years away from being a contender again, this window they’ll be free off all bad contacts, Burns, EK, Vlasic, etc They’ll have some solid prospects coming in and will have a ton of cap space to sign some FA’s.

Not quite sure I understand wtf Grier is trying to do here?! If he gained a draft pick It would make sense but he didn’t. Why would you trade a 26 yr old RFA who’s making 1/3 the salary for a 30 yr old UFA who’s upside and production are behind him. I’m beginning to think Grier has zero clue what he’s doing. Also Sharks should be attempting to acquire right handed forwards as they only have 2-3 on the roster total. The best teams in the league have a nice balance of LH and RH skaters so they complement each other.

Way to go GRIER.. you’re officially the worst GM in all of professional sports after this “trade” in fact I wouldn’t even call this a trade.. you just handed away your best player for some change. Not ONE top 5 Devils prospect back in return. NOT A SINGLE ONE. What a F*****ing JOKE! Forget the Draft picks… that 2023, 25-30th overall is more likely to be a fluke then it is to be a top 6 F/D..
Andreas Johnsson .. really?! Why? Does our AHL team need some mediocre 29 year old upcoming UFA for some reason?
This trade would’ve been acceptable for EK65 because he’s older and his contract is ridiculous but not for a top 10 NHL winger.. 26 year old.. point per game player and future 50 goal scorer! Grier needs to bounce Asap. He used to work for the Devils and is 100% doing them some kind of favor here.

I hope the Sharks can dump off Labanc’s contract. He’s horrible .. I don’t trust his 5v5 play.
This looks good, only thing I would suggest is buying out Vlasic’s horrific contract and moving Barabanov to the top 6.
I have a strong feeling the Sharks will be picking Top 3 at the draft this coming year & I really hope it’s Bedard @#1

Sources are saying if Kane wants to be dealt to a playoff team that him and Toews would be a package deal and they would retain 1/2 if both salaries for a good return. MAYBE.. they get 1st + 2nd and a good prospect ?

FUTURE WITH BEDARD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoVaSpartan</b></div><div>I think you may be asking/expecting a bit too much of Mann at the NHL level. For me, I don't put much into his years at UM, as while they are without a doubt good year, he also was surrounded with good talent if I remember correctly. If he can continue to perform with Skelleftea AIK, I could definitely re-evaluate his upside, but I can't see him being more than a 1B goalie. Reminds me of a slightly more talented Reimer at this point in my opinion, a guy you can count on for 40 or so games but less so for 60 games.</div></div>
A slightly more talented Reimer is a starting goaltender in the NHL hahah. He’s a career .913 % 2.80 GGA goalie.. while playing on some crappy Toronto teams in his early years. Reimer is not a bad goaltender and I think if there’s any contenders at the trade deadline that have some injuries and need a Goalie he would be a guy the Sharks could leverage and move for a draft pick. I think Mann is the Sharks future, I think he will develop into a great starting Goalie. He has a great foundation and is “older” 24 years old .. in two years he should be ready to get some NHL games in.

FUTURE WITH BEDARD
Not really.. 2-3 seasons after this and Karlsson, Couture, Ferraro, Kahkonen..etc will be off the books.. that 26 million in cap space. I could see them re-signing Ferraro but the rest will go to UFA.
Yea I’m not totally sold on Merkley .. unless he can somehow come up to the NHL and prove himself in the next year or soo, I don’t see him being more than a bottom D pairing or PP specialty guy.
Obviously the Sharks have a handful of other prospects in the pipeline that could be NHL ready by 2024 but just not sure how they will fit in the lineup.
I don’t think Toews gets more than 9M AAV.. he will be between 7-9M .. most NHL teams already have locked down their top D man @8M + AAV so he’s secondary and he sure won’t be back in Colorado because they are maxed out after this season.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>Towes gets more.
Gushin and Robins will both be in the NHL by now,
I also have a strong feeling in 2 years Laroque will be there playing over Merkley. he’s bigger stronger better defensivly but still provides huge offensive upside.
biggest problem is your maxed out and have a bunch of ELC that are up and will need raises.</div></div>

Vegas Golden Knights signed Phil Kessel (1 Year / $1,500,000 AAV)
Vegas has become a team full of “HAS BEENS” they seriously had a fluke inaugural 17/18 season that saw them in the cup finals. Instead of being smart and continuing to draft and have high end prospects they decided to sell house and go all in on a handful of guys who were big name FA’s or big name trade acquisitions.. and ooh have they paid for it… in questionable contracts and there cap situation is atrocious. If Eichel can’t get his game back they are truly F’d!!! They have two sub par AHL level goalies now. They are that team that will have to out score opponents on a daily basis and that doesn’t usually go to well in the NHL.

Vlasic needs to be bought out, Trade Simek and potentially Labanc.
Reimer will be dealt to a contender at the deadline for a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.
Not sure if the Sharks will have Eklund play next season or let him develop one more year in Europe. But if he does come over I bet he’ll be on the top line if not the 2nd line with Couture.

That is a lot of $$$$ for a 3rd/4th line guy who’s best year was just under 0.5 PPG 2 years ago… 1M less would’ve been something I could’ve expected. Now he’s the 5th highest forward paid on the team. Much more important to sign Ferraro over him. Now the Sharks have little money left, unless they’re planning on making a move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AudioCats</b></div><div>Couture's combo of age and contract length is an immediate non-starter for Buffalo. At 33 with 5 more years at $8m, he will more than likely:
- Regress sooner than later
- Be an expensive contract to move once that happens
- Tie up cap space when we have so many young, talented players to pay in the upcoming years
The momentary short-term improvement is not worth all these downsides. And that isn't even considering losing a 2nd in a deep draft and a great playmaking center prospect.</div></div>
I’ve seen GM’s make worse moves… If the Sharks could move Burns contract @37 years old.. they can move Couture for little to no salary retention @33 years old.. He’s always been a 50-60 point guy and a proven playoff performer. Maybe it won’t be Buffalo but I’m sure many teams who would consider him.

(TOR/OTT) - future considerations for Murray + 2023 3rd rd pick + 2024 7th round pick
This really isn’t all that bad for the Leafs. He only has two years left in his contract and OTT retained 25% of it. Even if he’s absolute horse crud they can throw him on waivers or put him in the AHL.
Yes.. Murray had struggled the last two seasons.. but he was also on a struggling team that had far below average defense in front of him. I’m not a huge Matt Murray fan but I’m a fan of goaltenders and I believe they should be given 2nd and 3rd chances.. it’s the toughest position in hockey. Especially for a guy who had so much success at a young age winning two cups with the Pens. I’ve seen plenty of Goalies make huge bounce backs.. his old partner Fleury was one of them! Just imagine the Leafs get a #1 goalie who’s 25% retained and two draft picks for “future considerations” and he has a .910+ Save % and a sub 2.5 GGA. He just has to be average and the Leafs will out score the opposition.

Sharks are absolutely stupid for making this trade. No clue what they were thinking. This is exactly why they can’t win a Cup after 30+ years of existence. This is not a deep draft at all! You don’t move from #11 down to #27 for two middle 2nd round picks. Just makes ZERO sense! Soo many solid high end prospects they could’ve selected at #11. But they just ****ED IT UP.
