Toronto Maple Leafs signed William Nylander (8 Years / $11,500,000 AAV)
Does Nylander deserve 11.5? Yes.
Did Brad Treliving **** up? Yes.
Could they have gotten him cheaper if they resigned him in the summer of 23 or 24? Yes.
Will Toronto win a cup with Nylander? No.
Will it be his fault? No.

Damn I thought hanifin was like 30 that's fair, but I do think 2 more years of top 5 picks would really help create a young dangerous core in San Jose

This trade looks like a big ball of meh... San Jose wins. EK's foot is not going to hold up. They get a 1st and a 2nd to get out from under that deal while only retaining a minimal amount. Grier did really well here for my money

He trades a top 3 Sharks skater since his claim and now he’s going to be happy with just a 4th after flipping Namestnikov.
Eyssimont could be worth a 2nd after this playoff run with Tampa if he performs his game with this big name of a team.

Not sure if this is fair value-wise (feel free to lmk) but I just don't think it's smart.
The Sharks already have a plethora of okay prospects but need high end talent. And they just traded that away.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>According to this draft pick value chart, the 3 picks going to San Jose add up to either 9th or 10th overall in value.

San Jose wins by a hair.</div></div>
Problem I have with some of these chart valuations is the relative value is spread across several players. It feels kind of like a “I’ll take three OK players instead of one very good player” type calculation.

Which, for the Sharks specifically, seems immensely boneheaded. One very good player is exactly what they need over 3 okay ones.

Draft Lotto 1- Wright or Bedard Draft
Awesome roster, I like it a lot. Especially the idea of signing a capable 3C like Strome who's offensively-minded and a RH-shot. It's a perfect match for the need. My only hesitation would be that I'd prefer Strome on a 2yr deal for Bordeleau to come in but that's never going to happen. As long as DW/Will doesn't include a ntc, I'm fine with a long-term deal for him.

I think hes gone as some teams gonna overpay him. Florida will need to save cap for Barkovs next deal in 2 years and has other names to resign and wont have the space to give Dreiger the contract he wants.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ghost789</b></div><div>I think you’d reevaluate that come trade deadline and post season. Having a guy like Kane (power forward) pays off big time in the playoffs. Depth is key and for a 4th rounder and 2M off his cap hit that is a steal. You’d be a horrible GM bud.</div></div>
It's not that I don't think Kane is a good player, but PHI just isn't a good fit for him. He's got essentially the same contract as JVR, but for more years. Also, wasn't there a falling out in Buffalo for something he did? Most importantly, PHI has to resign guys like Hart, Sanheim, Patrick, Couturier, and Giroux in the coming years. Taking on Kane's contract would boot one of those guys out, and I wouldn't want to.
Again, not saying it's a bad deal, just not a good fit.

I feel bad for San Jose fans. What a bad cap situation this franchise has. The NHL should consider giving them some kind of cap relief, but idk how. Team can't even do a full rebuild for 3 or 4 years with all those contracts. Sending my deepest condolences bro

Complete tear down rebuild
One problem, none of those guys can be traded...
No one wants Kane.
No one wants Karlsson.
Vlasic is more likely to be a 7x5 buyout than traded.
Jones can't be traded unless you pay at least a 2nd and retain half and even then probably not.
This team is stuck with those contracts, the last thing they should do is rebuild, that would be the ugliest rebuild the NHL has ever seen.
Let Seattle take Burns, buyout Vlasic, get rid of Jones somehow, sign Ullmark and Halak, stop resigning Marleau, and try to fill vacant roster spots with younger faster quality players via call up, trade, or free agency.
Kane Couture Lablanc
Meier Hertl Palmieri?
Donato ? Leonard
Nieto Gregor True
Simek Karlsson
Ferraro ?
Knyzhov ?
Ullmark
Halak
Make sure both the other RD's are good defensively and can kill penalties. Karlsson is washed up defensively and never was very good in that area. Don't use him on the PK unless someone's injured.
I would trade Merkley for a young defensive or two way RD. The last thing the sharks need is another offensive defenseman especially on the right side.

OTT can have him back guy is a joke
Karlsson was declining probably due to injuries late in Ottawa tenure. Sharks made a mistake, giving up so much in a trade for one year rental. But then they compounded the problem (as GMs tend to do) is they felt it necessary to resign Karlsson so they could justify the trade. And even worse they added picks to the trade with the resigning.
Gee, 11.5m sure could've got you quality UFAs and kept the assets you traded to Ottawa. Admitting the Sharks went to the Cup final with EK, but it looks all downhill from now. Plus the Sharks have those horrid long term expensive contracts on declining players.....Couture, Vlasic, Burns and Karlsson and you might add Jones too.

Montreal Canadiens signed Jake Allen (2 Years / $2,875,000 AAV)
I really dislike the Jake Allen trade, giving up an asset in a cap dump for a goalie who is considerably overpaid didn't seem like a good move given the goalies available this summer.
But the trade is done, the signing is fine. Jake Allen hasn't been a very good goalie, but he did have a good year last year in a reduced role, so making $2.8M seems like an OK fit. I know it's a lot to add to Price's contract, but that contract is bad on it's own, you don't make things worse by not getting an decent back up if that's what's needed. Also, Montreal needs to expose a goalie, so they can now expose Allen as he will meet the criteria. So overall, it's fine.
I hate what Bergevin has done this summer in terms of strategy, but I wouldn't let that paint my view of each move as if they are all automatically bad. Bergevin is a weird GM, he has made some of the best, and worst trades and signings I have seen in the last 3-5 years. I never know what to expect.

I wouldn't count on Dell falling off like that. I don't think the gap is anywhere close to being big enough for me to pay way more for Allen

This is an interesting trade. The picks are off. I feel the Sharks would have to give a higher one than PHI. Probably a 2nd from the Sharks and a 5th from PHI.
I'm not sure the Flyers need Braun as much as the Sharks could use Simmonds.
