<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ForsbergForVezina</b></div><div>I'm starting to think Ladd goes to LTIR as well, I think we're desperate enough and they'll be able to "make something up." Or maybe he'll have an actually nagging injury, who knows.

I'd rather not trade more assets than we have to, so if we can comfortably sign Barzal and Pulock with the Ladd money (pretty likely) and also find a taker for Boychuk, I'd stop there and then bring in one of AA, Duclair or Hoffman, not two. I've been pretty vocal about my disinterest in Hoffman, but having him for a year or two wouldn't be the end of the world, he still would be a spark to the PP and probably be a little better offensively next to Nelson or Barzal. I'm more interested in Duclair or AA, they can probably provide better value and you don't have to worry about them regressing due to age. I'd rather just sign one of them and then pocket the cap space for next year.

I'm convinced we're going to make a big run at Hall next offseason</div></div>

Ladd's knees and hips are shot. He was directly responsible for losing Game 2 against the Lightning, and I think he knows he's done. At some point he has to realize that he's taken too much damage to his lower body and it's going to become a quality of life situation. They let him play in the playoffs as a going away present- and even then, only b/c Cizikas got hurt.

Hoffman might be a problem in the locker room if he brings the Karlsson crap with him, but I don't think he will (the Isles are run far too professionally to allow that). He'd be an immediate boost to the 1st line- the kind of player Barzal needs to succeed. It'd also force other teams to focus on the Isles 1st line, and free up more matchups for their 2nd and 3rd lines. I also don't have an issue with the Isles keeping Hoffman for 1 year and then transitioning to Hall after this season. Duclair or Athanasiou have value, but if the Isles get the 1st line guy they need, they only need one of them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AnyoneButTheBruins</b></div><div>I understand there's a flat cap but I doubt players will be taking less otherwise the NHLPA will be all over that and we would have probably seen a free buyout. I don't think players are going to take less if the team tries to low ball them they will arbitrate it and more than likely get close to what they want. Obviously this isn't the case for all RFA's but for Mantha and Bert it is. Just look at the Marleau contract they had to trade a first because their cap situation and Isles are in a pretty bad cap situation as well and Ladd's contract is for 3 more year his contract is worse than Abdelkader's and his play level is pretty comparable, so there's not a fat chance I'm taking on that contract without getting something in return and if have to hit the cap floor we can sign some actual nhl players that can contribute 6 million dollars worth of play level not 1-1.5.</div></div>

Players are already talking about taking lower contracts. No one's paying $10 million. It's not just the flat cap, it's the fact that we don't even know if there will be fans in the stands in 2021, and how much the boycotts pissed the fanbases off. And we'll have to make sure the US and Canada can have international flights again, too.

Some teams are financially okay cap wise for next season, provided they don't want to add a lot. Otherwise, there are only a few teams that aren't close to the cap and it's not enough to move the UFA needle. (Don't forget that guys like Barzal are RFAs- and he doesn't have arbitration rights*). All of this is going to limit the ability of players to swing massive contracts in the short term. How short? Don't know. They'll still get good contracts, though.

*$7.5 million is also right in the pre-2020 range for Barzal. It's comparable to what talent on and around his level made in their RFA contracts. Again, I built in space with my cap that would allow me the flexibilty to add/subtract. And I can always move Hickey and dump Ross Johnson into the minors. And if Ladd is willing to go LTIR I don't even need to pull a trigger on a Wings trade, although I like how it'd work out for both teams.
