So I'll give another two cents here. While there is cap going out of DAL with Lindell going to FL, Hornquist has a $5.3M cap hit and adding Montour with another $3.5M. Montour got 37 points last season on the best scoring team in the league (im pretty sure). While that is nice, Lindell is a defensive workhouse, is great on the PK, can transition the puck, pass, and has a sneaky shot. Lindell is by far better than Montour in the 200 ft game.
Stars have still yet to sign Oettinger or Robertson and my guess is that the numbers for signing both today would put Dallas over the cap. DAL might be looking to trade something to free up cap space, ie Faksa or possibly even Gurianov.

Yeah, Dallas just hangs the phone up in this case with FL.

I see VGK trades and brain bleach them as that should never happen. That trade is the result of poor management all around.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dr_Invictus</b></div><div>Interesting isn't the word...insane, is more apt. Hayes has never broken 50pts and makes over 7M for 4 more years. Monahan was injured and barely played last year and still put up half that total. I'd take 1 year of Monahan at his worst over 4 more of Hayes at his best. They'll have to pay Arizona a lot to take that contract off their books.</div></div>
ARZ can't be spending any unneeded money for the next few years as they'll be losing revenue. My bet is the owner put a hard cap on spending so Hayes would be off the table, even though Hayes' actual salary is lower than his cap hit.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dr_Invictus</b></div><div>I want to avoid being a troll here. So, as politely as possible, I am going to say Calgary would never take this deal. They are giving up a top 4 d man who outscored Dougie Hamilton last year, and 1 year of Sean Monahan's cap, to take on a 30 year old Center making upwards of 7MM a year for 4 more years and had the same amount of points as Kylington last year? Kevin Hayes is in steady decline. Philly would need to pay to have a team take that contract and it would be steep. It's that or you buy him out. I could see Monahan for JVR, since both are UFAs and it saves Philly some cap.</div></div>
I appreciate you not being an annoying troll and I appreciate your feedback here.

BUF has the cap space, has 1 year remaining on his contract and his actual salary is $4M with a $1M bonus.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ReelBigFan</b></div><div>Buffalo isn’t going to pay for JVR, but Ellis probably is done so not moving JVR would be fine for Philly. He put up 22 goals in the last 60 games of the year (after AV got fired) let him bring his value up and trade him at the deadline
Monahan Hayes is interesting. Hayes definitely is the much better player and is pretty much fairly priced, within a million of what he should be getting id say… I guess taking Kylington would be a good deal. He’d probably play with York on the 3rd pair
Would also clear cap next year or let Philly flip Monahan for like a 3rd if anyone needs a 4C</div></div>
The best post yet so far in here haha. Yeah the Hayes one is pretty good. I'm not a Philly fan, just bored at work and I like to think I have interesting ideas. My thought process for Monahan is he could probably benefit from a change of scenery and someone like Torts will either make or break him. He could be a good depth C for cheaper or return to form. Either way, Philly could keep him in what would be a good trade or deal him at the deadline.
My thought process for BUF taking JVR is he only has 1 year left on his contract and he scores goals, especially on the PP. I think BUF might want to do that deal as it's low risk. But I'm just spit balling here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Funksoljah</b></div><div>Buffalo has no reason to pay for JVR. If teams weren't willing to take his contract for less than a 1st 2 weeks ago, it seems doubtful they would suddenly pay a 2nd for him.</div></div>
The situation is a little different now. Philly was trying to make space for Johnny, so teams were probably trying to low ball Philly for JVR. Also, many teams are probably waiting on Kadri to move to shore up their teams and see who is remaining. Moving JVR doesn't have to happen immediately either. I'm sure BUF is trying to be more competitive, especially since getting Tuch and getting higher in the points total. Their culture and team is changing for the better and might be buyers soon.

Having Faksa on your third line is a big oof. He looked slow and couldn't keep the puck on his stick in the offensive zone despite him being a big guy. You'd be better off with Chiasson there. Your fourth line looks very meh IMO. It looks like your defenseman are very young and lackluster. With $7M in cap space, I'd advise you get a Top 4D and a bottom 6 stud to help out your depth.

"I just haven't seen enough yet," You reffering to Harley. They guy just said he's played 34 NHL games. Nobody has seen enough of him.
One thing I will say about Harley is that he drives play through the neutral zone and was starting to really shine in the defensive zone his last 4 or 5 games of the season, so I am optimistic.

is this trade at all realistic and if so who wins
Robo would be the last one to be traded. He wants to play in Dallas going forward. Also, why would Dallas want to trade away a young winger that THEY drafted, who also just got 40 goals, for another young winger? The trade does not make sense at all. Also, CGY wins this trade as they will get rid of someone that doesn't want to be there for a very young scoring talent.

You only have about 3 guys that are contender caliber and maybe 4 or 5 that havent seen passed the second round ever. With no depth, you'd be tossed out before the conference finals.

Rangers Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>I’m not a big Suter fan but I think the narrative has gotten a little out of hand. He does the job and doesn’t cost a lot. He’s a very bland player to watch and the way he plays can look lazy sometimes. Yes he plays with Miro and gets fed some pretty good minutes, but his numbers are strong for a guy only making 3.65 million. Not having Suter and running Lindell-Klinger and Harley-Heiskanen as a top four would be nice but it would also be very expensive. You’d have 21 million tied up for the next three years. Harley gets his next deal in two. What do you do if Harley plays himself into a pretty substantial raise while you’ve still got Esa (and Benn) on the books? Say you bridge him. Then he’s ready for his big contract in 2-3 years after that and Klinger’s contract is still around. Ruh roh. Some of these other young guys are looking for money too. See what I mean? Nill is doing a nice job getting ready to build around what young players he has coming. Draft, develop, support. Marchment will be a nice affordable addition that helps bring in our young centers. Suter is an affordable player that can compliment Miro. Miller is an affordable player that can compliment Harley. Hakanpaa is an affordable player that can compliment Lindell (who I think is capable of a lot more if he’s given his own pair). Once Harley gets going I’m all for putting him with Miro and Suter with Miller. But Harley needs to show he belongs on the top pair. Suter isn’t my favorite but he is still a top four D if he doesn’t have to carry the pair. Lots of rambling kinda all over the place sorry haha</div></div>
Oh, you are totally fine rambling my friend. We're talking about a sport that we are both passionate about, and a team we both know.
I am of the opinion that Suter is lazy and it's come out from mutliple teammates that he complains about everything (ice time, PP time, ect. I watch about 95% of Stars games last season and he sometimes stands up straight and glides in the defensive zone. He is too passive for our defensive system and his ice time should be 8-ish minutes less. I am also of the opinion that he is holding Miro back because Suter is a defensive liabilty, especially when their opposing team is in transition from defense to offense.
On Klinger, for as long as he has been a Star, and I watched him come up as a rookie, I am glad to see him walk. He was beginning to be a consistent minus player, which is a very bad thing to be if you are an OFD that puts up 50 ish points....that means you are letting more in than that, which isn't good from one of your best dman. We didn't have the cap without trading someone major. I also think we'll see Lindell improve. He's good for about 30-35 points, all while being a good defensive dman. He can pass, shoot, transition, and move someone off the puck.
My defense pairings, at least for training camp would be:
Lindell-Miro-->it's worked out well in the past
Suter-Miller
Harley-Hawks

On the subject of Robo, even if he is paid $9M for 8 years or somewhere around there, it's not going to matter come 2025 offseason where the cap is projected to skyrocket. So pretty much two-ish seasons of a slightly overpaid 40 goal scorer...think about it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NMAvsFan</b></div><div>Well, if they produced the way they did when they signed them, it wouldn't be a problem but they've declined pretty rapidly. Amazing that 38 y/o Pavs outplays them every year.</div></div>
Benn hasn't been the same since his double hip surgery and he played injured most of the season he won the Art Ross. Seguin has been borderline injury prone the last 4 years and it's been taking a massive toll on his body. He was looking like he'd bounce back next season by the way he played in the last half of last year.
Faksa, at the time of signing that $3.25M contract, was looking like he was close to being the next 2C for Dallas. We just needed like 5-10 more goals out of him. He played very well defensively and has a great shot. But unfortunately, most of the Stars didn't play as well as before under Bowness and his new system he tried to implement in 2021. Dallas got to the SCF still playing Monty's system in 2020.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>I’d even hesitate to trade him for Schneider to be honest. We need to be transitioning to the new core of Hintz, JRob, Miro while doing our best to get the most out of Benn, Segs, and Pavs. JRob and Hintz get us a lot out of Pavs. I’d like to see Marchment and Peterson get us more out of Segs. Bourque could get us more out of Benn and Guri. We are going to miss Klinger on the back end but hopefully Harley can take a big step forward. And hopefully we get the healthy Vegas version of Miller not the banged up Buffalo version</div></div>
Harley looked good the last 5 games or so he played before the playoffs. He should've been playing over Hanley IMO. Guri should get his game back and I'm hoping Petey and Harley take that next step. If they do, we'll see Dallas rising in the scoring column. Please DeBoer, put Suter on the third pairing where he belongs, thanks.
