Demidov or Levshunov
CHI will be a bottom dwelling team for at least 2 other years - Dman take time to devellop - you get the chance to draft a #1 RHD early in the rebuild and he will be ready at the same time as the forward your draft top 5 in 2025 and 2026.
Look at the Leafs - you can"t win with 3-4 ppg player with no defense and no goalie.
Get Levshunov in 2024, Hagen/Misa/Malone in 2025 and another top 5 stud in 2026.

For me, in a perfect world, we draft Demidov and then use our plethora of draft capital to move up and get Yakemchuk. What that would take....who knows? But I could see teams looking to move down. Maybe the Devils or Wild? IDK.
***EDIT*** BUT at #2...You draft the best available. I want to get that out of the way too. If KD thinks that Levshunov...so be it, but don't target a position at #2 OA. Just best available.

My theory would be Levshunov because Chicago will still be a bottom 5 team next year. #1 center one year, #1 dman this year and then you have some really good options next year with elite forwards looking to dominate the top 5 in 2025 whether that be Haggens, Misa or Frondell

Trade back then really back
So there is no reason the trade price would go up. It would certainly be less now.
So at a very minimum, remove the two 1st round picks.

I prefer Gustavsson over Markstrom, personally. I imagine NJ could have him and another assets straight up for 10th.

RHS Dman worth overpaying for
You're trading the 11th overall pick for Andersson. Jokiharju is probably worth around what we got for Zadorov(3rd + 5th).
Chychrun which I see as a comparable returned the 12th overall pick +2 x 2nds. One of those 2nds was a conditional 1st, the condition being OTT making the conference finals.

This is less than Chychrun, Flames aren't trading him for less than Chychrun when he's still so 2 years from UFA

Unless there's someone that they absolutely got to pick up at 11th OV, could be a savvy move. I do think they need a goalie as well though, so maybe they could try baking in a Markstrom trade in it as well.

Got a little carried away making cap space
"I shipped Gudbranson because I think he blocks Jiricek." -> I disagree, Gudbranson is the clear 3RD, and Jiricek needs to play in the top-4. If he's not ready, he plays on the top pair in Cleveland until he can slot into the 2RD spot. He, Severson, and Gudbranson should be fine for the time being.
"But both of Bean, Boqvist seem like misses and I would be realllllly curious about overpaying for a really solid D like a Pesce." -> Pesce would block Jiricek, but I wouldn't necessarily mind that. The major problem is this team isn't a Pesce away from competing. There's a lot of growth that has to come from all the young kids before we're ready.
I'd be fine with moving Laine, but it really feels like we should pick either Levshunov (long-term 1RD or 2RD, with Jiricek the other, Severson on the 3rd pair) or Lindsrom (long term 2C or 3C with Sillinger the other, Fantilli on the top line), whoever is available at 4. Werenski and Mateychuk should hold down the left side for a while.

I can't see Seattle moving out of the 1st round for that. I'd like Laine but I think Seattle values the first more than the player.

Mangiapane deal doesn't seem like that much of a homer deal. Leafs are moving back 17 spots in 2024 for another 2nd and a winger with a very competitive salary after retention. I'd do that if I was the Leafs and had interest in Mangiapane.

SJS blockbuster to setup big UFA offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DopeGM</b></div><div>There is a big point - the point is specifically to build a three / four year window of success. Right in Larkin and Debrincat’s prime years and right as Raymond and Seider ascend.
Even with cap increases you look for an edge with every dollar. All this depends on the asks by the players of course. I foresee Yz going to a very useful tool that’s only in his toolkit. The bridge to UFA deal.
Its a long bridge ;)</div></div>
Cap increases put Raymond over $10M and Seider possibly in the $12M+ zone right after Edvinsson needs his second contract.
That's gonna be a big "No thanks".

Can you find space for a dman
Love what Harley has become for Dallas this year, but he's not getting an 8-year deal after 1 good year. Oettinger and Robertson both had MULTIPLE solid years on their ELCs and got bridge deals. Harley is getting a 3-4 year bridge deal that allows Dallas to retain his rights as an RFA when it expires. He'll see between $4-5M on a bridge deal, so that saves Dallas a bit of cap.
Lundkvist also isn't seeing that kind of pay raise. He's spent a good chunk of the season as a healthy scratch and has essentially been held on the bench for the entirety of the postseason. I don't think Dallas completely cuts ties with him and allows him to test free agency, but he's not going to get anything more than a 1-2 year deal worth MAYBE $1M per year.
On top of that, if Dallas wants to add some more cap space, Ryan Suter should be buyout target #1. His cap space would go so much further addressing other needs on the roster.
Dallas plays their cards right and they'll actually have a decent amount of cap space to use this offseason on getting their guys re-signed as well as potentially addressing the hole on the right side of their blue line.

Buying out Faksa saves 1M or less in cap when you factor in replacing his roster slot. It's not Ideal but might have to bridge Harley like the Oilers bridged Bouchard. Even a 4-5Mx1 or something pushes his contract until the year Faksa, Suter, Dadonov, Benn, and Lindell are off the books.

Sign Lindholm Thin out the wingers
Lindholm won't be able to carry soft little johnny all by himself, Tkachuk had a lot to do with the success of that line. Marchenko is the closest thing the Devils have to Matthew so maybe it works.
I think Columbus will take Cayden Lindstrom if he isn't already gone by then. The Ducks probably take him though.

If you draft Lindstrom, how does he develop into anything but a third liner with all the depth? Catton might bust trying to get through all this depth. You can have too many prospects and players to develop in my opinion.
When I think about teams developing all of the right pieces, and I look at this team, I see a glaring need for defencemen that can suppress the other team. I don’t follow the prospects closely but Silayev looks perfect for that role.
Don’t buyout Elvis! Those extra three years are when the Jackets are going to be great!</div></div>
We do have a lot of wingers, and trading from that strength to build up the defense would therefore be a good idea. But that doesn't appear to be what you've done with this AGM; in particular, that Chinakhov trade is a very poor one for the Jackets. We'd be better off targeting a good defensive second-pairing guy somewhere (free agency or trade) and letting the blueliners we already have in the pipeline develop and force their way onto the team.

I'm not saying you should draft a winger but definitely take BPA and Silayev won't be that

Are you expecting to fall back in the draft? There's no chance you are taking Silayev at 4. Dickinson sure but probably one of the forwards

I could see a scenario where the Jackets could trade back with say Ottawa but right now I agree it will be a different player.

F@%* No. His play in the playoffs has been disappointing. He's had one good season. If others want to pay him $5M per then good luck to them, but Canucks should move on.

I think some teams would be willing to go to $4M on him... hard to find, power forward skillset coming off a breakout season and playing extremely well in the playoffs
