<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hanson493</b></div><div>theres been plenty of players with VERY HIGH FLOORS that dont pan out to anything. i mean look at the rangers... lias andersson, kappo kakko, hell even laffy to a degree. not exactly panning out to what their floors were no still time but nothing guaranteed? there is zero correlation between production in juniors and being able to hack it in the nhl. logan brown is a prime example of this, jack studnicka is a prime example of this. im saying lysell is a 30/30 guy because of his skill set, he makes guys around him better he looks every bit the part of a top 6 nhler right now. i dont watch greig im just saying youre the one saying that he has the high floor of a 3rd liner. idk that you can say that. he has top 6 potential and looks every bit that that should hit based on his juniors production but saying hes a lock for a top 9 role i dont buy.</div></div>
Kakko is already a quality player, just not putting numbers people expected. He's a guy playing at his floor right now.
Same could be said for Lafreniere. Those guys are young and could end up overplaying their floor but as of right now, that's probably where they are.
Unless their FLOORS were supposed to be much higher? I don't think so because you need to be very good just to play on a NHL 3rd line
I don't know/remember what kind of floor Lias Andersson had. I could dig but not a priority.
As for the rest, listen, there's a LOT of info out there, a LOT of videos/highlights, a LOT of people in the know (not all equal) who talk about these guys, who give their scouting reports. Greig having a safe high floor isn't exactly something new. Not sure what you are going about here. The point is it was ridiculous to refuse a Greig + Thomson for Lysell offer, no matter how much you like your guy.
By the way, I have been projecting hockey players for decades. Not as a paid scout but as a big fan of the game and someone who likes to make money speculating on hockey cards. It's a better hobby ($$$) than playing video games for me.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hanson493</b></div><div>im saying lysell is a 30/30 guy because of his skill set, he makes guys around him better he looks every bit the part of a top 6 nhler right now. i dont watch greig im just saying youre the one saying that he has the high floor of a 3rd liner. idk that you can say that. he has top 6 potential and looks every bit that that should hit based on his juniors production but saying hes a lock for a top 9 role i dont buy.</div></div>
Again, this is so contradictive... Lysell is an easy 30/30 guy because of his skill set, but yet you don't buy saying that Greig is a lock for a top 9 role????
You realize most if not ALL hockey people view Greig as a better/safer prospect?
That's some really WEIRD stuff right here :tearsofjoy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hanson493</b></div><div>so formenton went 19 in 25 then went 9 in 45? doesnt sound great. honestly 35 in what 100 isnt that impressive. youve got a nice role player for the bottom 6 doesnt make him extremely valuable.</div></div>
35 in 1000, 10 of these games were when he was a 18-19 y/o teenager where he scored 1 goal
We don't want Formenton to be more than a 3rd liner anyway
Tkachuk - Norris - (Joseph)
?????? - Stutzle - Batherson
Formenton - Pinto - Brown
Crrokshank - Kastelic - White
For that 2nd LW spot, it could be someone acquire via trade/UFA or even that top-7 pick in the next draft
Notice that Brown has been averaging 51 pts per 82 games overall in the last 3 seasons and I still have him on my "3rd line"
My 3rd line would get as much Even Strength TOI as the first 2 lines + the PK. It's a MATCHUP line. I want to build a good team. Good teams have 3+ good lines. "role players" or however you want to call them are extremely important
Formenton will be a 30-40 pts 2-way force. Beast on the PK. His production in his 22 y/o rookie season is already paced to 33 pts.
Note that Formenton was seen as AT LEAST a Lysell level prospect just 1 year ago... An dof course, I have evidence for that
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hanson493</b></div><div>not to mention where are you putting formenton on the bruins? theres literally 0 reason for this trade. a RD thats limited to strictly 3rd pair and another left shot lw thats going to be 3rd line at best. why would the bruins be giving up their best prospect and a 2nd for that. <strong>i dont think you guys understand how value works</strong>.</div></div>
lol now that's funny... What you said has absolutely NOTHING to do with value. You are talking about the Bruins need/context
If you don't need something because you already have one or don't have a need for it, it doesn't make it lose value.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hanson493</b></div><div><strong>maybe greig is a stud... maybe he sucks... you literally never know</strong>.</div></div>
WTF is that argument? lol
So Greig is uncertain? What does that say of Lysell then?
And Greig is much more predictable prospect, he's literally a blue chip prospect with a very high floor (excellent 3rd liner)

At the beginning maybe, but it shifted to value (you literally did it yourself in post #4). One thing we should all do to improve communication is mentioning when we're talking about pure value or about team needs/context.
But please do a bit of research before proclaiming your guy as the next best thing while the guy from the other team is "merely okay"
And I am not trying to diminish Lysell. On draft day and after the draft, he was among the guys I named that I would take over Tyler Boucher (Sens 10th OA pick)
A few examples :
<em>I have a different definition of safe pick... To me the safe pick here was Sillinger, or even Lucius or Lysell.</em>
<em>Xspyrit, Jul 16, 2021 : If a guy like McTavish, Kent Johnson or Sillinger is available at 10th, you absolutely snag him. Could be a few others too like Lucius, Lysell, etc. Heck, even Coronato seems very interesting</em>
<em>From the Sens, Alex Formenton received the 8th highest amount of votes for that 50th spot but maybe he should have been voted already (I voted Lysell)</em>
The last one was a comment in January reviewing a September 2021 poll ranking NHL prospects (on another website). I actually voted Lysell at #50, over my guys Formenton and Bernard-Docker who were among options

And yet, Greig is only 6 months older, still 19 y/o
If anything, Lysell has more pro experience so that should give him an advantage.
And Greig had a much better PPG in the WHL last year as he was younger than Lysell this year.
Anyway, everyone knows Greig's game is a lot more evolved than offensive production
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hanson493</b></div><div>formenton's speed doesnt matter because we have the same player in john beecher already in our system. we had zach senyshyn who had elite speed and couldnt make the roster. theres more to the game than just speed.</div></div>
lol Formenton's game is a lot more than speed though. Like I said above, he had a stretch with 19 pts in 25 games when he first got a top-6 opportunity. He's also a very good PKer and good defensively with a mean streak. He's a 22 y/o rookie

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>How is that a trap? Lysell is an asset the bruins wouldn’t move unless NHL talent at a position of need was brought back. This isn’t rocket science.</div></div>
No one in their right mind wouldn't trade Lysell for Greig and Thomson. Yet you are there "<em>What about a young 2C? If not, then move along</em>."
To answer that, the only guy the Sens have who could fit this bill is Colin White. Josh Norris and Tim Stutzle are clearly going to be better than 2Cs and Pinto will prove it next year too. White is more a 3rd liner though but he's a very good possession with a very big attention to details, so maybe with the right opportunity and good linemates he could put second line numbers again (like he did in his rookie season)

Do you really think when a young player get "<em>sent right back down</em>" from a rebuilding team it means he's crap? Senators are developing their prospects, they don't have to rush any of them. The only guys who bypassed the system were 3rd/4th OA picks Stutzle/Tkachuk who were physically ready and managed to be 0.55+ PPG in their rookie season. Chabot played his 2 final junior seasons after being drafted. Drake Batherson has been up and down in his first 2 pro seasons and is now over PPG at 23 y/o...
Thomson didn't look like crap at all. People actually finally understood why Ottawa took him 19th OA in 2019. Sens fans in general have been very critical of that pick before but now everyone is high on him. You just don't know anything outside of your own stuff that you are overrating in relation to other teams' stuff. Very typical.
Also, Formenton is not just "okay". Sure for now he doesn't produce more than a 3rd liner but he had a stretch with 19 pts in 25 games this season when he was given the opportunity to play top-6 because of injuries. He's only 22 y/o. Do you think Lysell will be PPG in his rookie season? lol
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>Grieg is merely okay.</div></div>

Formenton's speed is not just decent, it's elite. He's one of the very few who can actually keep up with McDavid. And with the puck too. Difference is he doesn't have the same hands/skill, so he's more limited to 20-25 goals per year, which is pretty decent already
He has 15 goals in his rookie season, while getting at least 50% of his game in the bottom-6
But yeah he and Thompson wouldn't even come close to a 19 y/o prospect who doesn't figure in top prospects lists! Of course

To me, Grieg is a blue chip prospect. I honestly think he'll be one of those guys next year that really surprises Ottawa and the league out of nowhere. Even in his preseason this year, even though it was preseason, he impressed me. Despite his suspension... Kids got talent and grit. He's a real S***disturber that can score to make you feel worse.
Honestly, to nab Konecny would be steep. Guy is young and has a decent amount of contract left. Has speed, decent finish and a little nastiness to him (I remember watching him as 67). It would have to involve both 2nds this year if not a mid round 1st equivalent. Connor Brown would be a place to start but Philly would have no interest as they are headed in a different direction. Maybe include Bran and another prospect like Sokolov. It'd be steep, but its an immediate improvement on the RW side.
Either that, or don't trade anybody and go after Giroux in UFA.

Drysdale does not drop. He's been top pair since he could possibly be playing in the NHL (Start of last year). He's a top 3 pick in this draft.
Byfield cannot possibly be above Lundell. Lundell has been what Byfield is supposed to be, a two-way center who can produce offensively.</div></div>
Everybody in front of him looks more impressive.
Just because you're top pair, doesn't mean you're playing well. Ristolainen was top pair at a similar age and we know how that turned out. I think the forwards have better ceilings.
I think Byfield has higher ceiling. Lundell is better right now, but I see Byfield being better in a year or two.

Realistic Playoff Team Next Year
I think you lean a lot on that top pair, but I also think there's enough money leftover to pull out a decent veteran from UFA and mix and match the bottom two pairs - keep the young guys with a veteran and get 17-19 minutes a night out of each pair.
Giroux is a fun addition here, and from what other Sens fans have told me on here, you might need a different 1B than Murray next year - but I think if you get a solid guy to share starts (something like 45/35/give a couple to Sogard) you've got a much more solid team. The East is 8 playoff teams plus the Islanders(yes I'm biased, but they've played at a 97 point pace since their first COVID postponement, so shush), so you have to hope some of them fall back down from age/wearing down/injury/whatever - TBL/TOR/FLA/CAR/NYR are safe, so someone from the NYI/Boston/Washington/Pittsburgh quartet needs to stumble. I think this team pushes one of those 4 reallllly hard for that last playoff spot.
