Mercer, Jarvis pretty close.

Better Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hii</b></div><div>Not really, there isn't a spot on the roster where I see Connor Brown fitting into the long term plans.
Though in all honesty, I think Ottawa found it's next Connor Brown in Matthew Joseph and that Joseph will end up replacing Brown for the duration his stay.</div></div>
It remains to be seen if Joseph can be as good defensively while producing as much as Brown at Even Strength or on the PK. This is extremely valuable and not something I think a lot of people really understand
A Formenton - Pinto - Brown 3rd line could IDEAL and the kind of 3rd line that would push us above competition. We're not going to outplay contending teams with the power of our top-6. They have star/high end players too and some have the elite ones
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hullsy09</b></div><div>Does Zaitsev do anything good?</div></div>
Shelter him on your 3rd pair against average competition and he would do "ok". Need to pair with a good passer. The higher the role above that you will give him, the bigger detriment he will be.

Trade with Senators for 7OA and Stars 18OA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaudetster</b></div><div>I dont believe the value is off like you say. Murray has negative value due to contract. If I was MTL I would decline Murray and White for Anderson retained straight up. But lets say this is accepted by montreal making the trade a 1st 2nd Norlinder Mysak (who are both quality prospects) and Allen for the 7OA. Ottawa probably wins this trade.</div></div>
Do they though, they don't need a goalie (Forsberg and Gustavsson) is a fine tandem. Anderson is not needed and is a determent. (You're example of a trade is horrible (White + Murray = Anderson) Because of his contract. While Norlinder and Mysak are okay prospects the one that Ottawa will draft with the pick (if they keep it) will be far better and fit and work better than Anderson. The late first adds nothing because it is likely a similar prospect to Norlinder and Mysak. The second does nothing. Murray is not really a cap dump cause he will likely fit on LTIR for most of the season and White's buyout is peanuts so he doesn't have negative value.
Montreal wins the trade.
(They get ride of a determental contract in the long term and gain a top prospect while getting ride of some decent prospects.
Quality > Quantity.

Ottawa isn’t trading 7th unless we are adding a legit high end top 6 player who has produced at 65+ pts per game

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KentMcNally</b></div><div>I picked Ottawa because they said that they may move the pick for immediate help, which would be Anderson. Ottawa could ask for more, which is why I suggested Dvorak or Kidney (or maybe Farrell or Xhekaj) possibly being added.</div></div>
Ottawa doesn't need nor want Anderson, they'd want someone with more skill and they could get better players and pieces for so much less. The prospects do nothing and Andersons contract will still be a determent to the Sens in the future. He is also incredibly inconsistent and not the player I would acquire.

Sens probably don't do any move for Murray without knowing what his health situation is. If they can just stash him on LTIR there's no need for them to move him cap-wise. Mysak and Norlinder are interesting prospects but the thing is Ottawa is already filled with interesting prospects - I can't see them moving back in the draft just to get more of them (through both these prospects and the extra picks).
I'd also argue they'd much prefer dealing with 3x$4.75M for Colin White than 5x$3.25M for Josh Anderson, even if it's lesser production - I just can't see this being a big enough upgrade to get them to move 7OA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaudetster</b></div><div>Ottawa trade is weird and interesting. I think if you want murray you could get him for cheaper. Weird stuff going each way. Split up the trades if youre giving a 1st and mysak and norlinder for there 1st or whatever youre doing</div></div>
The Ottawa trade is just flawed considering that there is to many moving pieces and not enough value going back the Sens way for the 7th OA pick.

You're doing quantity over quality with that Sens trade. They decline as Anderson at 3.250m for 5 years is still a detrement cause that contract will look horrible and non of the other pieces interest the Sens.
They are much better of drafting a good forward like Kemell or Lekkerimaki with the pick and then have that develop into the top six forward.
Also can Habs fans stop trading scraps for top ten picks please.

I have such high hopes for Pinto and I really believe casual nhl fans don’t know much about Ottawa players. Some guy on Twitter literally asked who the hell is Batherson.

You actually met our asking price.
Our asking price is what the Islanders gave us for JG Pageau.
https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/players/jean-gabriel-pageau
Granted, you're giving us a 3rd round pick instead of a 2nd.
But, you're also giving us an unconditional 2023 1st round pick that is free of any lottery protection.
And next season hasn't even begun yet.
This is a fair trade in my eyes.
Ottawa accepts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>No, lehkonen had a positive rate in MTL, Coleman one in NJD, and Copp (who I don’t see as a great comp here) in WPG. xGF% accounts for how well you’re able to “tilt” the ice, good defensive players that start in their zone either get the puck or keep the other team to bad chances. That’s measured.
And as for future deals, that is absolutely factored in. Coleman, Goodrow, Hagel, and Lehkonen got firsts because they were team controlled for 2 or more seasons when the trade was made. And let’s say Copp is a comparable, he didn’t receive a first as a UFA.</div></div>
Youre right, thats why they got 1sts+
Had CBrown been traded at the deadline last year, for a playoffs + another entire season, he would have been 1st+ as well.
A full season of CBrown to a contender expecting their pick to be in the mid-late 20s is worth a 1st, and renttion adds the "+"
Consider Coleman. He had 1 additional year left on his contract when he was traded. He was being paid 1.8M. (Same as CBrown in this scenario)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wabit</b></div><div>I know who Brown is and what he does. He just doesn't add much of anything other than an improvement to a 3rd line wing for cheap in MN. He adds the same amount of 5v5 scoring as Greenway does, but is better defensively. Seriously, Brown has 10 more goals and the same amount of assists over the last 4 years (270ish games).
I could care less if he's part of a Fiala trade or not. Adding him just forces MN to make another move to ship out cap. I'm completely fine with gambling on Jost filling that same 3rd line wing spot for about the same cap hit.</div></div>
Not sure why you're telling me that. You were not the one quoted here...

All of those guys will get term and about 5 mil on their UFA deal. Would you give 5 mil over 6 years to Brown next year? If so, we disagree firmly on what he brings.</div></div>
Cowling's answer will be sufficient, saves me time thanks
Oh and please verify your facts when arguing with me lol
Coleman was 28 y/o
Lehkonen was 26 y/o
Copp was 27 y/o
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cowling</b></div><div>You can't argue based of hypothetical futures that they will probably get 5 mill and not Brown. They're xGF% are higher because they are on better teams, Brown often starts in the defensive zone and gets tough matchups while being on a bottom 10 team all year.</div></div>
