Astros vs. Dodgers
I like Astros as well. But the Dodgers have spend a small nation's GDP on their team over the last couple of years and have assembled a really nice, high end talent line up. I'm taking Astros in 6.

Habs inability to develop high end talent
I am pretty sure that GMGM said he wanted to keep their young defenders like Theodore, Schmidt, and Miller. I touched on their drafting when the discussion of who the best at drafting came up and Montreal for the life of them can not develop players. The line blender came out in practice I found on Twitter is:
<strong>Pacioretty</strong>-Drouin-<strong>Lehkonen</strong>
Byron-<strong>Plekanec</strong>-<strong>Gallagher</strong>
<strong>Hudon</strong>-Danault-Shaw
<strong>Galch</strong>-Mitchell-Hemsky
The players in bold were drafted by the Habs. They were developed in the fallowing ways:
Galch- from junior straight to the Habs main roster.
Hudon was on St. Johns.
Gally-From junior to Hamilton to Habs
Patchs-NCAA to Canadians systems (bouncing back and forth for a while)
Plekanec- A lot of it was in the Czech league and two years in Hamilton before joining Habs.
Lehkonen-developed in the SHL and Liiga

Which team will go undefeated the longest this season
Edmonton is a team that they have a softish start they get Vancouver Winnipeg and Ottawa next fallowed by Carolina. They also don’t play on back to back nights.
Dallas is the other team that can go pretty far without losing but they have to go through a couple more competitive teams in St. Louis and Nashville.

Baun lost out in a numbers game. He was also over shadowed by others like Hinostroza and with the additions of Jurco, Dauphin, Kampf, and a laundry list of others, he sort of tumbled down the list in the depth chart.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mtdavis311</b></div><div>I can't believe I'm the first to vote for Colorado....
Their front office is a dumpster fire, and the team is a wreck because of it. Vancouver isn't far behind. If I had to guess, it would be:
Colorado
Vancouver
Detroit
Vegas
Florida</div></div>
Colorado is a tire fire of a year but there is no way that team was that bad. They’ll be bad for sure but they are not last place bad (anything can happen but I wouldn’t put money on the Avs being last.) They have the too much talent to be that bad again. If Sakic starts moving pieces then we can talk about them being last place bad.
I have the bottom three as Vegas, Vancouver, Detroit. The avs for me fall between 28th-25th. With probably a point percentage of about .500.

Yeah, that's pretty cool, nothing better than pulling an awesome card yourself, unfortunately this didn't happen much for me, every so often I would be a decent pull, probably my best being an Erik Karlsson Young Guns from a $5 Walmart double pack. I don't have the opportunity to pull many cards now as I just buy singles most of the time, maybe get a box of cards for Christmas or something.
What are your thoughts on graded cards?</div></div>
Oh I am not much of a price/grading person. I get a box for Christmas from my grandparents but I am not that big of a collector. I know the McDavid is worth a pretty penny but other than that I don't pay much attention to them or the grade.

What does the preseason tell about your team and rating your teams preseason so far
For the Hawks, I’m really glad Saad is back. Also some of the young guys have really impressed especially Vinnie and Hayden. DeBridicat has been very good as well like a little water bug with Kane and Schmaltz who has really stepped up to play on that “lottery line” Anton Forsberg is really going to fill the hole left by Darling’s departure nicely.
The players that have impressed me the least Jucro. I don’t like whipping boys on teams but he just has not looked up to par with the rest of them. Franson has been okay. I still do think that trading Hjammer was a mistake (I might be bias because I really like him) but the defense still has some weaknesses. But they do have some young guys now that god forbid someone gets hurt they can come in and at least play a couple games.
I do like the depth they have as well. Rockford is going to be better since the kids are just going to run crazy down there now that the old veterans have been cleared out.
Honestly it’s still a dog fight for the last forward spot and the bottom pairing. I do like Franson but Rutta has looked really good. I think Pokka and Oesterle have looked good as well but I don’t think it’s in the cards for them to stay up. Just based on the lines I think it will look something like this on opening night:
Saad-Toews-Panik
DeBrindicat-Schmaltz-Kane
Sharp-Anisimov-Hartman
Bouma-Vinnie-Hayden
Tootoo, Kero.
On D
Kieth-Murphy
Seabrook-Forsling
Kempny-Rutta
Franson (most likely though I prefer Pokka)

Forsberg

As you said, very close in the Metro. I honestly think Carolina sneaks in. I'm not as confident with Colombus and torts.</div></div>
I totally agree on Columbus, They were average with a really good couple weeks. It complete depends on how Bob plays. I don't think I've seen a player get the coach fired in what 7 games? The Torts came in and the difference was he didn't have just someone wearing a Bobrovsky jersey, he has had Bobrovsky. My big question is how much Panarin is going contribute, because I don't think Torts will like his play style (Being a Chicago fan and knowing Panarin does not block many shots or is really hard nosed in the corner).

Which GMs Should be Fired?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barathrum_Obama</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiaPetty</b></div><div>
I don't think the off season was bad either as it was more strange, however ownership gets to make that decision and I don't know come next spring if they will be entirely happy with the results. Like I said though I think he has bought himself some good will I just think if they don't make the playoffs again (especially in the dog eat dog world that the East is becoming) they will not be keeping Tallon around. There are GMs that should be fired way ahead of him like Holland, but as long as his team keeps making the playoffs he will be there. Ownership is just getting in the way like it had been with the leafs a long time ago, and like the Canucks are dealing with. That and with the cutting of salary I don't think Tallon has a long leash.
Really Jeff Molson is the only owner I can think of did a good job as influencing his team as an owner as he told them to not trade PK Subban about 2 or 3 years ago. Buddy who owns the Bills and Rams ownership consistantly meddles in the dealing of their teams and it does not work out very well.</div></div>
maybe I've lost track a little. Tallon might be in the discussion about GMs who <strong>could</strong> be fired, but shouldn't be in the one about who <strong>should</strong> be fired imo. and yes, ownership should keep to themselves and not get involved with hockey decisions.</div></div>
No you are correct I think I just read it wrong totally my fault. Read the question too quickly on lunch break and typed it out. As for GMs who <strong>should</strong> be fired, Holland for sure. I don't see how he's allowed to clean up the mess. Like the Leafs and Coyotes, the former GM does not get to clean up the mess. A Leaf-like overhaul in the front office needs to happen in Detroit before any real progress can be made. I think Holland actually made some decent moves last year by pulling in assets for players like Smith and Vanek, but really it is time for a change. I don't think that Red Wings fans hate Holland by any means, but it is time for him to move on.

I honestly don't think their offseason was all that bad. their personnel situation is really weird, that's true. but I don'tthink he should be let go. let's give him the benefit of doubt and say he has a plan.. would be a bad idea to get a new GM undoing his changes again. the team needs a direction.
Ken Holland, on the other hand, is steering his team nowhere. As is Linden.</div></div>

After the very confusing off season, Dale Tallon should probably be let go. But I will put a stipulation on it and say that whatever this off season was he is not totally to blame. There is something fishy going on with the team.
My concern is that ownership seems to have their hand in running the team, which usually is not great. Very rarely does ownership actually help make team decisions. There was that report were ownership wanted Tallon to shed salary to get the payroll below 65 Million. Tallon did get rid of a net 10 Million Dollars between shipping out Smith and Demers, not resigning a laundry list of players they had and buying out Jokinen. Putting the Panthers at 63.5 million dollars under the newly installed internal cap. Tallon did deny that ownership had said something but it is really hard to deny that some of these head scratching moves line up with the ownership restrictions. Also Much like Ottawa and Anaheim, you do not want to publicly admit that you are downsizing.
That does not mean Tallon is off the hook. But he can buy himself time with a couple of excuses. The team was busted up all year long. The new coaches systems have not taken over yet. It was the computer boys' fault in trust the numbers more than the on ice product. He probably has saved a years worth of good will because of how the Panthers have played the last few years and making their couple of games worth of playoff revenue.

Best Team At Drafting
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>I feel like Nashville has done a solid job draft over the last 10 years. Josi, Spaling, Wilson, Ellis, Smith, Ekholm, Bourque, Watson, Sissons & Arvidsson just to name a handful I could think of off the top of my head. Could throw Vesey in there even though he never played for Nashville.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiaPetty</b></div><div>Boston, not great either. If we are going on success rate of draft picks Boston does not historically really well in later rounds like a certain person with yellow tinted glasses might have you believe. They have gotten good players like Marchand in the 3rd round but the rest of the picks are pretty bad. In the first and second round they get absolute studs like Pastrnak and Hamilton. In the second round they pick up guys like Lucic, Spooner and Carlo. The last player that has played several NHL games who was picked 3rd round or later? Seth Griffith.</div></div>
We were so bad at drafting while PC was in charge here. Some people count 2006 as his first draft, even though by NHL rules he couldn't be involved, but I look at 2007 (when he was officially GM) to 2014 when thankfully he was fired. During that time....
48 total draft picks
44% = never played in NHL
77% = 41 games or less in the NHL
Some of PC's best picks were gift wrapped for him (Seguin/Hamilton) and neither player is no longer with the team. In fact only 29% of PC picks are still within the B's organization (NHL or minors) and that's what makes things worse. Funny enough though, I PC may have crushed his last draft in Boston when he took Pasta, Donato, Heinen, Bjork & Johansson. 3 of these 5 could be in Boston this season w/ Donato not to far behind.</div></div>
Which two of those names you listed are first and second round picks. Out of the first and second round (which you need to be successful in to be continuously competitive in in this league ie Pittsburgh and Chicago) they stink. In the last ten years every other team has managed to get very successful players in the third round on.
Drafting is the Bruins big problem. Handling young players is a big problem for the Bruins. Why release that the three picks that were taken back to back to back out of shape. That is something you handle internally, public shame drives players away from you organization. This is basic psychology that being publicly shamed even in front of very few people leads to high levels on animosity. The Bruins have signed Tyler Seguin to a fantastic deal then getting very little in return from him. Seguin was gifted to the Bruins and today would probably be in their top three players. Pasta could have been another disaster.
Comparatively to the other teams in the league the Bruins do not draft well.

Best Team At Drafting
Chicago drafts really nice players later on in the draft. They've gotten guys like Kruger and Shaw in the 5th round and they get really nice depth pieces like Tyler Motte and Hinostroza. It would be nice to see them keep some of those picks like a Teravainen. But they tend to either get a lot of strong players like in 2011 where 7 of their 11 picks are playing somewhere in the NHL or at very least have had little stints at being in the NHL. Or they have drafts where all you get out of the draft is Ben Smith. They aren’t my first pick, but they are consistent in finding good players.
Surprisingly Buffalo has done very good recently, we just don't realize this because they traded everyone. But they have had players that are at least serviceable Justin Bailey, Nick Baptiste, Grigorenko, Girgensons. The problem is they just have such a revolving door. This is a list of players drafted since 2007 who are playing on a team in the NHL other than the Sabers. Paul Byron, Tyler Myers, Tyler Ennis, Marcus Folingo, Zack Kassian, Brayden Mcnabb, Mark Pysyk, Joel Armia, Mikhail Grigorenko, Nikita Zadorov, JT Compher. And if we go further back since 2000 add 8 more active players to that list.
Teams that do the worst:
Montreal: Only 4 players in their last 5 drafts have made the team. Currently they only have one in their lineup. (Lehkonen). There are two drafts that really stick out for success for Montreal 2007 (McDonagh, Pacioretty, Subban, Yannick Weber all NHL Caliber.) They had a success rate of 44%. That is a good draft especially since three of those names you can sell to fans. The other draft that stick out had a success rate of 40%. 2011 Jarred Tinordi (who at very least has played in the NHL) and Brendan Gallagher, who is Montreal's one "steal" of the draft as he was drafted in the 5th round at 147. I get that Montreal has some highly touted prospects--as few and far in between--but they do not historically draft well (in our conversation of the last 10 years) out of the second round. I also get that they don’t really like playing young kids but they have not developed well at all. They are really competitive because players grow up wanting to play for them and sign there. They also make some smart trades.
Boston, not great either. Seth Griffith.
Edmonton is the final team bad drafting team I have over the last ten years. Their problem was not missing with the picks they had in the first round...it was most picks after that. That being said they have gotten better. But they have had some pretty bad picks who have gone on to greener pastures and have played okay.
Some interesting notes as I was looking at some draft records
Ottawa has snagged some really nice pieces in the later rounds by focusing on the WHL and USHL, however they primarily lean on the OHL and SHL.
Anaheim really good at drafting defense...not so much on the forwards since 2007. they've had guys like Rakell who is really their last homegrown forward that they've kept.
And Finally, Toronto and the main reason I have kept them off the best drafting list...they have really only gotten good at drafting since 2014 but more realistically they got to another level in 2015. They have had some good players like Kadri and Rielly. It is not like they couldn't draft in 2006 all but one of their picks made it to the NHL--they all had varying levels of success, but they made and only one is still with the team and that is Komarov. The following year two players out of a possible six ever made the show. They have had a couple steals like Connor Brown in the 6th round. Komarov in the 7th round. They just have not been on their A game since then.

Columbus is one of the best IMO, they aren't flashy but the point of defense is to regain possession and turning it into offense, but Seth Jones is fantastic and Werenski is a shot suppression machine.
Calgary is the other. Giordano and Hamilton are just two great players.
I have a hard time saying NAS because Ellis will be missed. Ottawa's defense is Karlsson and no one can really fill his role on that team. I think Hjammer is going to let OEL be the offensive minded player he is but they are just going to be very good. Provorov is going to be great but MacDonald is going to sink that pairing like an anchor.

I would take one of Ehlers, Laine or Scheifele just because that is going to be a great line. For goalies, I would stay away from Steve Mason. There is something about goalies under Paul Maurice that they get worse.
Young players to look out for Brayden Point, I think he's going to fly under the radar and get some easier assignments. Tuevo Teravainen is my breakout player this year.

TJ Oshie is going to go earlier than he should. He was shooting at a way higher percentage and will regress quite a bit and on the same side, Eric Staal probably will not reproduce the same results as last year.
These past few month I have been so busy that I have had such little time to actually look into fantasy, but my league (the beerest of fantasy leagues) doesn't put much research into it.

NHL teams that should change their logo?
I would like to see Washington ditch the letters and go to their shoulder patch as their logo. I love that patch (it's better than most logos not just talking hockey).
Columbus should probably go to something that references the Union. Or work around that mf-ing cannon. I like the alt logo with the cannon.
After Arizona got rid of that Pablo Pacasio dog they were fine. Carolina could probably use a few touch ups. The Islanders would need one because the map on their current one doesn't show where they play. I like New Jersey's but those jersey have to go in a dumpster with the islanders ones. One of my favorite logos is the North Stars. It was just a great color scheme and design.
As for Chicago and Montreal. Naw. I'm good they're classics. To be honest I can't imagine The Habs or Hawks changing logos. Ive seen the black hawks logo that people want and I personally don't care for it. Really as a whole their aren't a lot of logos to change. Its more uniforms. It's not like football where the browns logo is just a brown helmet which they might as well just use the poop emoji. The new Seahawks logo is atrocious.

Is Drew Doughty Overrated?

It was like his Revenant. The Norris he won felt more like it was for a body of work rather than being the best defender that year. But he is good very good. He's in my top five for defenseman in the league.</div></div>
He's top 3 IMO. I still think Karlsson should have won that Norris.</div></div>
Karlsson totally deserved it more. I have Doughty bouncing between 3 and 4 with Hedman IMO. Which I would in a heartbeat take Doughty on my team. I don't know though I still think that the biggest shock from those awards was that Beauchemin got a vote.
