Does Greiss make the oilers a cup contender? He'll no. Koski is more than capable of playing 30-35 games and winning around half of them. In the weak pacific, they don't need a stellar backup to make the playoffs, in which the net will belong to Mike Smith anyways.
This trade is an incredible waste of assets.

Flipping Yama
If the oilers move yamo, it better be a deal involving a goalie coming back. Anything other than that makes no sense.

Massive overpay for Monahan. Flames fans have wanted him gone for 2-3 years now. He's always hurt and even when healthy, he's such a soft player for his size. He had a few great years where everything he touched went into the net. That had more to do with Gaudreau being in his prime than Monny being a great finisher. Probably not the most popular opinion, but I wouldn't trade Gallagher for him 1 for 1. I prefer the guy who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty.

Koskinen will take a 1st to move out. Best case scenario a 2nd.
Calgary isn't going to do the oilers any favors.
Rask is done with hockey.
Nuge is done being a center, he's better off at wing.

The bigger question, does anyone feel like Debrusk is a 4 million dollar player? That's what he will need to be qualified at next year. It's a huge gamble trading for him right now.

As an oilers fan, the most intriguing deals to me would be Anaheim and Winnipeg, mainly due to getting a stud goalie as well as a highly skilled forward to help fill the void.
Tampa & Buffalo deals are an absolute steal for the oilers.

Trading McDavid
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs_and_Sens_Fan</b></div><div>I would have waited a season... his current contract isn't even over yet. I don't think anyone gives him more than 9.25Mx8 as a UFA anyways (probably why Nurse signed early). For anything over 8M you'd expect the guy to be elite at both ends of the ice... unfortunately I think Nurse is below average defensively.
The 8 year contract will sign him for ages 27-35 so he will likely be on the decline for part of the contract. If it was a 4 year deal it would be an overpay but at least you're only paying for prime years. With this much term even 7M AAV would be risky.
Putting it more simply. Is Nurse worth twice as much as RNH?</div></div>
I kinda agree with most of your points. The flip side of the argument though becomes, what if Nurse has another great year and then wants 10 next year? No matter his asking price, the Oilers are not in a position to let him walk. They are all in for these next 4-5 years. That quest for the cup can't even begin if they lose Nurse and good luck getting a top pairing dman to sign in Edmonton.
I'm critical of Nurse's game as well but there isn't really a choice. Beggars can't be choosers.
The core of this team is set. Their success now lies heavily on the youth. The progression of Bouchard, Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, Holloway, McLeod & Broberg will determine if they are true cup contenders or not.

Trading McDavid
Like Nurse's contract or not, they had to give it to him. When you bridge someone and they keep getting better and better every year, your not left with much of a choice.
Most Oilers fans were thinking around 8 × 8. The extra is the cost of having to live in Edmonton. Lol.
I don't think he's going to put up huge offensive numbers going forward so people will be quick to say he's overpaid. He definitely needs to take another step defensively and be more consistent at that end of the ice.

Bob has seen these guys play way more than any fan. You don't have to be a pro scout to recognize if a player has a good shot, or is a good skater or good passer.
But I'll move along now.

Neither guy has a good shot. Gusev has a career shooting percentage of just 7.4%, while Turris has shot 9.3% over the past 3 seasons. Of course, these numbers were pumped somewhat by PP time (something neither guy would get much of in Edmonton), if you look at their 5v5 shooting percentages it gets even worse: 7.9% for Turris and a paltry 6.1% for Gusev.
Perhaps you were thinking of someone else?</div></div>
Nope, I'm talking about the right guys.
I think it's a bit unfair to establish who has a good shot or not based on the stats that you just mentioned.
Let's take Draisaitl for instance. Based on his goal production, everyone seems to believe that he's a sniper with a great shot. He's a great goal scorer but I think his actual shot is pretty average. He's often in really great positions to score that it doesn't need to be great to do so.
Now with Turris, he's got a good hard accurate shot and a good one timer as well. Even oilers radio guy Bob Stauffer has mentioned how Turris has one of the best shots amongst the forward group. And Bob gets the luxury to watch them at practice. I remember a game this season where Turris went bar down on a one timer and thought wow. Being a right shot guy who can shoot, he'd look good on the wing of a play maker.
Turris's best years were as an offensive player. God knows why everyone wants to makes him a defensive center.
I hate all advanced stats. I think they all have some truth as well as some faults to them.
🤷♂️

I like Gusev. He's got a good shot.
I wish the oilers would give turris a shot in the top 6 on the wing. He's also still got a good shot. If Turris still has something left at the NHL level, it's his ability to score. Using him as a defensive center has never been his thing.
Anyways, I don't like giving up a 2nd in moving koski out, to just use that cap for guys riding the bench. I'd rather they wait and move him at the deadline for either a good D or Goalie on an expiring deal.

I Must Be Misunderstanding The Long Term Plan
Puljujarvi will be moved for a young, cheap goalie.
Holloway takes his spot in the top 6.
Yamamoto is probably signing something 2×2
Bouchard fills the 2nd d spot.
Broberg fills 3rd pairing role.
Kassian can also be dumped if need be.
That gets them under.

Saving this terrible offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Drshnuckels91</b></div><div>Holland has put edmonton in a position where its all or nothing over the next three years with the nurse, ceci and Hyman contracts this means to load up for a couple championship runs.Giving up on broberg early might come back to bite us but we can't wait on him anymore with the position we are now in. I wouldn't be shocked if Halloway gets shipped off too in a big trade in the coming offseasons. But yeah punching holland would make this season bearable.</div></div>
I was hoping they would wait one more year before going all in. Koski's contract would expire and they could get a real goalie. Keith would probably still be available if they really wanted him. And maybe someone like Holloway impresses and they don't need to overpay someone like Hyman.
Plus, younger guys like Yamamoto, Puljujarvi, Bouchard & McLeod would probably improve as well.
There was definitely pressure from somewhere. Maybe the owner, maybe McDavid & Drai are getting fed up.
I'm definitely in the minority, but I liked the moves that Holland made.

None of those deals makes a significant difference for the Oilers.
Come playoffs:
-It's Smith's net. Giving up a 1st for someone whose gonna sit on the bench doesn't make any sense.
-I would rather have Kassian than Kessel.
-Russel is a fine 3rd pairing guy.
So giving up a 1st, 2 2nd's and a 4th for pretty much very minimal improvement.

Boston says no thanks.
It's gonna take way more than that for Laine. There's a better chance that Puljujarvi + a goalie prospect gets shipped to Columbus for some sort of return involving Elvis.
I think Arizona will be stubborn and say a 1st rounder or no deal for koskinen. They have all the leverage there.
Khudobin deal seems fine. Dallas will want to move that contract, especially having signed Holtby.
Question is, does Khudobin move the needle far enough for the Oilers? I'd start the season as is and reevaluate after a month of hockey. If koski rebounds, you save the 1st and his contract expires. If koskinen ****s the bed, that deal for khudobin will probably still be there.

Has a calibre of goalie like Gibson ever been traded
I think the best move the Oilers could have made and I'm sure many of us were hoping for, was a deal with Seattle for acquiring either Kahkonen or Vanecek. They seem to be good young goalies and are on cheap contracts. But unfortunately that ship has sailed. Wouldn't even have to worry about moving Koskinen out either. That's the one where i think Holland dropped the ball.

3 strong lines
I totally agree with you. Even in the past when we haven't had the depth at the forward position, you still need to spread the skill out a bit.
I thought the Oilers could have tried Turris on either McDavids or draisaitls wing last year. He's a righty that still has a very good shot and has a way better one-timer than nuge. For some reason they wanted him to be a shutdown 3rd line center, which he's never been good at. I still think Turris has more offense in him than we've seen.
Nuge and puljujarvi play good together and either McLeod or Ryan would be fine with them.
There is some skill, size and hustle on every line which will lead to better depth scoring.
I also think they need to consider going to 2 pp units as well (Giving the 2nd unit the last 20 seconds doesn't count). They have 4 dmen who can play pp now. It should cut down on the short handed chances against, and keeps more people involved in the scoring.

Gibson trade makes absolutely no sense for the oilers.
For the oilers to make a serious run for the cup, they need their prospects on entry level salaries to contribute in the lineup. Bouchard, Broberg, Holloway, McLeod are going to be key pieces.
I'm gonna assume the ducks will ask for 2 of those guys plus picks for Gibson. He's a top tier goalie signed long term. There's no need to move him unless someone severely overpays. Plus their division rivals.

Russell won't be traded, he's versatile and cheap this year.
Need more players that work as hard as Archibald, shouldn't be giving them away for nothing. Also tippet likes him so don't see it happening.
I don't see any team wanting to part with a good goalie right now. That might change at the trade deadline. They'll keep koski to open the season. I think he can play 30ish games and anything around 500 hockey with him in net is fine.
I think he'll have a bounce back year.

How about this
If Khudobin was on an expiring contract, it would make more sense. Not sure about a Smith Khudobin tandem for both this year and next. I don't think Khudobin is the difference between this team being good or great.
So adding the koski buyout and khudobin's salary, the cap becomes a huge problem next year.
