So you trade a useless third pairing defenseman and one of your useless fourthliners for Columbus's useful fourthliner? Pass.

Okay, this one I'd do. Especially for the haul that could be had by flipping a retained Marner somewhere else.

Yup. They could retain half on marner and get a haul while shedding Elvis contract

Leafs 2024-25
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Colton_Bernard</b></div><div>Dude it’s hypothetical if Marner waives his No Trade Clause and signs and extension then that is exactly what he is worth. He is one of the best wingers in the game, just because he is having a rough playoffs isn’t going to hurt his value.</div></div>
And he isn’t going to waive for Columbus. Nor is Columbus going to be making a move for yet another extremely expensive winger when they already have Gaudreau and nominally Laine on their cap. The offer sheet was years ago. The GM who did it was gone. The circumstances have changed wildly. There is no longer a fit.
We are just begging Leafs fans to please move on from this idea. There are thirty other teams to explore. Look at Vegas, for example. I’m sure they’re interested.

Laine wins
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Yeah, I think that works for Laine. It's juuuuust enough that both fanbases are a little uncomfortable, so it's probably about right?
FWIW I still think it's best to hold onto him and hope for a bounceback ourselves, but if Laine requests a trade or the new GM decides to move on from him, this is something that would work.
I don't think there's any reason to be moving on from Sandin though...</div></div>
Sandin is the odd man out. MF is better we need a true top pairing guy and AA is cheaper

How much are they worth 4
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Honestly, that's probably about what Chinakhov would be worth. Not quite enough to warrant a 1st, but could still fetch one (or similar) if it turned into a bidding war.
I'd hate to trade Chinakhov now, because he's incredibly fast with a blistering shot, and could absolutely break out in the next two years...but I'd probably move him 1 for 1 for Pettersson if Pittsburgh was open to it. Dependent on also shipping out Provorov, though, but that feels like a given.</div></div>
Problem with pettersson is he only has one year remaining. If he would sign a 4 year or so extension for a similar salary I would do it

Idea I Saw On Twitter
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>"instead of using 18 million on 2 players, they invest in 4 solid players that fill different positions of need, all with term"
Why stop there? Instead of using 18 million on 2 players, use it on 10 players; 5 Ryan Reaves and 5 David Kampfs. Insane depth!
I get there's nuance, and I'm not a Toronto fan/Pens fan, and the idea isn't actually bad, but I don't think Pittsburgh is the team to involve here. Graves had a terrible year, he's a good player but I don't know that he ever lives up to that contract. Jarry is a very expensive goaltender with tons of term for extremely average results. Rakell and Smith are solid middle-6 guys, but neither are worth their contracts, and both have term.
Toronto's forward core would still be fine, but now they're lacking more scoring talent and still have obscene question marks at goalie and defense, and no extra cap space to address those issues. If TML are moving Marner, it's got to be for a couple higher-quality pieces that are likely on good deals. The target should be a contending team with a little bit of cap space looking to upgrade the forward group. Detroit, Seattle, St. Louis, Nashville, etc. are all likely better options.</div></div>
Funny enough, Jay Rosehill said in the podcast he would rather have 12 Ryan Reaves than 1 Mitch Marner.
Take that with what you willz

revamp
Chinakhov > Robertson so your lineup doesn't work for Columbus. Robertson just isn't interesting to a team with a million small wings already. Boqvist could easily be had for some picks, though.

Top 6 upgrade options
This is the right list of guys to target but I think the values are way off. Never know if a guy is willing to move his NTC or not and if they are Washington is a great area -- management and locker room has great reputations, no jock tax in DC and fairly low taxes in VA (where almost every player lives), team just made the playoffs -- it's not a Winnipeg or Arizona that's on everyone's list.
They will not move Leonard for anyone, nor should they. As always, fans should actually look at recent trades for top line players and realize that Matthew Tkachuk aside, it's always incredibly underwhelming.

Laine is only being moved if we can get back the sort of asset package you'd give for a top-line scoring winger. Yes, it's questionable whether or not he'll bounce back to that status after his time in the PAP, but he's been that pretty consistently for the Jackets and we have no cap pressures so we're basically playing with house money and you're going to have to pay us well to give that up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>Laine isnt worth all that.... you could make an argument he's borderline cap dump</div></div>
If you approach trade negotiations with that attitude you will not get him. We are in no hurry to dump him, and are basically playing with house money w/r/t whether or not he bounces back, so any trade for him needs a return commesurate with that of a top-line scoring winger. Especially if retaining.
That return as listed <strong>might</strong> do it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Both are relatively mid level prospects. I think Sutter can eventually be a bottom 6 grinder type player in the NHL. Hyland has more potential i think, but he's also a bigger boom or bust risk.

Nope. We're not moving him unless we get a "top line scoring winger" type package back, because that's what he's historically been. We're basically playing with house money with his situation; either we're getting that player or we just move on from him when his contract expires. There's no rush.
