It's actually not that hefty of a price, two years ago at the draft the Yotes acquired the 11th pick from the Sharks for 27th + 34 + 45. I would say Struble = the 34th pick (perhaps even slightly more) so that leaves accounting for the 45th pick, so just add the Avs 2nd and it's basically the same return the Sharks got.
Edit, sorry read the deal wrong lol, guess you would have to add the Jets 1st to make it the same deal lol

LOL, he had 1 season at 70+ points, 1 season in his 5 year Career, he would have to have had 1 or 2 at less than 70 to "bounce back" he is a 55 point player on the 5th best team in the league, you seriously think he is going to put up 20 more points consistently on the 5th worst team? His 70 point season is an outlier just like Domi's not his norm, I wouldn't trade more than like the 15th ova pick and a 3rd for him, he isn't better than Dach or Newhook and isn't even close to being as good as Suzuki or Caufield. He is a middle 6 winger who averages 55 points a year and he is gonna be looking for north of 7 mil, Necas is going to be the Canes next KK, a seriously overpaid middle 6er.

WTAF is that Necas trade? He really just isn't good enough to return more than a 1st + 2nd tops! He averages 55 points per season and is horrific defensively, basically he is Jonathan Drouin in a Canes uniform, would you give that up for Drouin? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Fair Trade or Not
Personally, I think it's the type of deal that it would require for Marner, however it's not a move the Habs are going to make. Outside of Reinbacher and Mailloux we have 0 potential top 4 RHD for the future. Savard isn't going to be here long term, Kovacevic is a 3rd pairing guy, Barron is likely traded this offseason, that leaves only Konyushkov and who knows when he will come over, so unless we waste our 1st on a RHD instead of just filling our current hole by drafting a forward this makes no sense for the Habs. The same thing can be said for the Leafs though, they are trying to win now so they don't really have time to wait on Reinbacher or the 1st to develop. So as fun as it is to dream about a scenario like this, right now I don't think either side does it

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>I like Barron as well. But not enough to give up Reichel. If the Hawks wanted to get Barron, I'd be fine trading a 2nd or a 2nd and a 4th for him. Which Montreal might go for. But not a 1st and definitely not Reichel - at least not yet.</div></div>
I think a team would give up a 25-32 pick for Barron but the same team would likely give up 16-25 for Reichel, so that's the difference by my estimation lol

Ignoring the trade itself, you are essentially paying Laine more than Skinner to be the same player (Laine makes 8.7 mil skinners buyout cap hit is 1.7 mil, that equates to paying Laine 10.4 mil, why not just keep Skinner?) Also Skinners buyout might make sense for the 24-25 season at 1.7 mil but look beyond that, in 25-26 it jumps to 4.4 mil and you have to resign all of Byram, Quinn, Peterka and Levi, in 2026-27 the buyout costs 6.4 mil then finally drops to 2.4 mil the remaining 3 seasons, that is not a feasible solution.

NYI Trade in summer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>I like the Celebrini pick! Hawks would make that Islanders deal but not too sure the Isles would. Do the Isles really want AA? Hawks wouldn't consider trading Reichel for Barron without the Habs adding. Which the Habs probably wouldn't. I honestly don't see the Hawks trading Reichel for less than a 1st despite his poor season this year.</div></div>
I agree, I don't think the Hawks are ready to move Reichel, that being said Barron is also a very good young player with top 4 potential and worth like a late 1st. I think an argument could be made for a 1 for 1 trade or the Habs adding maybe 3rd or 4th but like I said in the beginning, I don't think the Hawks are looking to move him.

Looking towards next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dekes</b></div><div>What do you think realistically would be his cost to acquire?
I wouldn’t mind him on the bruins.
Bruins need another strong LHD so lindholm can focus more on offence rather then defence. He’s been taking on a lot of the tough match-ups with mcavoy and doesn’t get as much offensive opportunities as he did last season.
I doubt they go back on Chychrun. I want no part of OEL personally Dillon and Gavrikov would be good fits for me next to mcavoy, they aren’t good transitional dmen but are solid once in the zone and mcavoy Carries the puck most the time anyways so not a glaring whole if they can’t carry the puck</div></div>
Realistically it's gonna cost at least what LA gave up but I don't think LA will be looking to move him (whether the op likes it or not) they are also in win now mode and need him on their blueline.
I know they are young but both Harris and Struble are great defensively and can transition up ice well. They are better suited to the bottom 4 so I wouldn't necessarily put either with McAvoy on the top pair but both could be had for about a 2nd

Why wouldn't the Canucks just keep Hronek instead of overpaying Roy, Borssoit, Zadorov, Blueberry and Duhaime? You can easily find cheaper options for those depth guys especially 3 mil for a backup goalie

Necas
I don't think this makes sense for either team, Habs don't need another Domi type of player (an all offense player that averages 50 ish points per season but can occasionally put up 70) they need consistent 70+ point players, sure Necas size is appealing but that's about it. I would rather go after Zegras or Reinhart

I like the idea of Guhle-Hronek but Hughes already said that they weren't going to block Reinbacher and Mailloux from earning roster spots next year. I think they feel like both could be ready for top 4 minutes at some point next season

Future playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MTLaveragefan</b></div><div>I agree, but the assets I mentionned (The WPG pick, the second round picks, the two 2025 first round picks, as well as the pick we will get for Barron, Harris, Matheson, Savard (so maybe two extra first round pick and a 2nd/3rd round pick), can all be used to pick up a decent RFA or notable "unhappy player".
Rather than wait in 2027 - I would love to see the habs acquire a Necas, Zegras, Jarvis, Quinn, Peterka, Wyatt Johnston, Rossi, Dylan Guenther (AKA a good top 6 RFA) - It just has to make sense in term of price.</div></div>
Necas is just a mid 6 player, not willing to trade for him at all, especially not at the prices Canes fans think he is worth.
My point was we should be acquiring a similarly aged player and not just adding prospects (you still have to add them too so that the well doesn't run dry) and pushing to be a playoff team this year not in 2-3 years from now

Future playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MTLaveragefan</b></div><div>We'll have other prospect by then as well! Namely The WPG pick, the second round picks, the two 2025 first round picks, as well as the pick we will get for Barron, Harris, Matheson, Savard (so maybe two extra first round pick and a 2nd/3rd round pick) .
So, while I agreed that Mesar, Tuch, Kapanen, Konyushkov Engstrom or Barron are big question marks and that Harris and Barron are likely to be shipped out this year or the next, the potential trades and draft pick will 100% change the look of this team in the bottom six anyway.
Like - pretty sure we will get another top 15 picks next year that could end-up being another Caufield - this management has also done VERY well so far with later picks.
I don't think Dach is more injury prone that other... just terribly unlucky. What he showed last year was very encouraging and he had the best metrics offensively AND defensively of any forward on the team. And he is 23, so plenty of runway still!
This line-up is more a look in 2027:
Slaf - Suzuki - 2024 first round pick
Caufield - Dach - 2025 first round pick
X - Beck - X
X - X - X
while the D core will likely have Guhle, Hutson, Reinbacher and Xhekaj as the "core" .</div></div>
In my personal opinion, this approach is too cautious like what Ottawa, Buffalo, Anaheim, Edmonton and Arizona have done for years. It's good to get fully loaded with prospects and have a deep pool but eventually you have to turn the corner and move into contention. Suzuki will be 25 heading into next season, Caufield, Dach, Newhook and Guhle will all be 22-24, we need them to start playing meaningful games down the stretch, if they make the playoffs its even better for their development as a team

Don't get me wrong, I love the look of this lineup however hedging all your bets into this many unproven young guys is very risky. I personally do not see any of Mesar, Tuch, Kapanen, Konyushkov, Engstrom or Barron as part of the Habs future lineup. I also am very hesitant to say that Dach can remain healthy enough to be considered to be part of the Habs future lineup. I do love the Iginla pick though if the top 4 are the way you have laid out. I also really love the goaltending and other 5 D corps picks, I hope we can find another Xhekaj type of D man for the 3rd pairing to make this a really tough D to play against.

Yeah, I don't want to just dump him <strong>yet</strong> I just think we need to have an insurance policy just in case. Bring in PLD (or another center) to play on Dach's wing or vice versa. We can't go an entire season without a viable 2C and expect to take the next step

Questions for my fellow Habs fans
I personally agree, if a move can be made that improves the long-term future then you go for it. The question really becomes, is Reinhart going to be available? For me the answer is probably very unlikely.
I also wouldn't personally break up the Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky line, we need a line that compliments that.
I have some reservations about Dach being able to be healthy for an entire season, I know I have been very vocal on this but if we want to be competitive, we need to be able to count on our 2C to help carry the load for an entire season. I personally would like to see a move for PLD or Danault to help alleviate these concerns.
Adding another scoring winger would also be a must for me, I think Someone like Reinhart, Batherson, Fiala or even Zegras would be a great fit but they have to be able to finish at a rate of about 25+ goals or 50+ points per season and be under 28.
