1. Pinto is not overpaid. If you go 2 years, that's probably fair. They were talking $2 - 2.5 before the suspension came out. He might end up coming in under that, but that's not a bad number for 2 year deal.
2-5 - I don't really disagree. Seattle probably isn't far off value, but there's no reason for them to do that. I actually don't like the trade for the Sens either.

He hasn't looked awful this year - probably what was advertised. Big, good shot, offense-first player. He's looked really good on the forecheck this year, but hasn't really been able to string results together. Playing with one of Penguins top two lines he could be really successful.

I was going to say, Sens haven't lost a game in extra time this year, so for Sens an OT or shootout loss would definitely be bucking the trend.

Kubalik amp Monahan
I think Ottawa takes that, especially with no/less retention, but maybe as-is.
They need to move out money if Pinto signs for more than minimum. Pinto I think makes Kubalik a bit redundant, and Zohorna at least brings size, & Ruhwedel veteran depth on D. Both of which Sens could use a little more of. And both those contracts are bury-able if necessary, and expiring.

Not too expensive additions
I think in this Niederreiter is displacing Batherson on 2nd line, and I probably flip Pinto & Joseph - I think Greig-Pinto-Batherson has a lot of potential as a line, both 2nd half of this season and next season.
Tanev for 2 years - I think that would make re-signing Chychrun tough. I don't necessarily mind it, but it likely is making that choice. A one-year might be better there. Although they can start talking to Chychrun on extension the same time they can start talking to Tanev, so lets assume that the extension and Tanev's contracts match up.
At some point one or more of the "rebuild" players is going to have to be moved out - they won't be able to keep signing everyone to long term deals forever. I think the only 3 completely safe from being moved should at this point are Tkachuk , Stuzle & Sanderson.

huge trade for fun dont pay any attention to this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>For Boston to make this trade, they'd need to be in a position of strength regarding Carlo and want to add forwards instead. But they're not. They don't have the depth to move on from Carlo
Those who would say no because of value are out of their minds. DeBrusk is UFA for christ's sake
Poitras had early hype but he's going to be a middle-six 2-way forward. He's not Norris or Batherson level.
Kubalik + 2nd doesn't get you DeBrusk but the difference is not not very big. Kubalik would be more successful on a team like Boston
So it's basically Norris + Batherson for Carlo + Poitras
I think the value is very close to fair but the problem will be perceived value, Sens are underachieving (which is pretty normal when you start the season with DJ Dorion, I have been saying that for years), so Norris and Batherson value is down. Plus it will take more time for Norris to get his game back after such a serious injury</div></div>
Dude, I'm in Ottawa and a Bruins fan. These are the two teams I follow.
To break it into the two halves that you did:
1. The difference between Kubalik + 2nd and DeBrusk is large. Wouldn't even start to consider that if I'm Sweeney.
2. Forgetting whether the trade is even possible due to cap, the contracts that Norris and Batherson are on - they haven't yet and might not live up to. Carlo is one of the top defensive D in the NHL, and makes less than either of them. Think of him as a bigger, much better Zub. Poitras is running as middle six C on a FIRST PLACE TEAM as a teenager, 1st year of entry level contract. Bergeron was also a "middle 6, 2-way forward" in season previews before their cup win. Poitras isn't Bergeron, but he can hockey.
You'd have to be the pre-cap Leafs or Rangers (ie. money doesn't matter in the slightest, ignore salaries completely) to make this deal, and even then I think it's still in the Sens' favour by quite a bit.

Meh.
Maybe for Hughes.

Honestly - value is there, fit isn't. Bruins are running with 3 good scoring wingers right now, and it works because of strength on D. I think trading Carlo completely changes the character of the team, maybe more than any other single player other than McAvoy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fergy22</b></div><div>Kelly and Chartier are career 4th liners no disrespect to them they but they have hit their ceiling, I doubt they crack the Stars lineup.
Dellandrea could end up being a middle six in Ottawa. Carrying Faksa for another year would be sour but if you’re giving away picks I am sure Ottawa would consider it. I just don’t think Tarasenko is worth it.</div></div>
Rourke Chartier doesn't move the needle on that deal, but hasn't been bad - he has been one of the best Ottawa forwards positionally. I think he's a really good depth forward for the Sens - the only reason to put Kastelic there is size and toughness. I actually think the Sens should keep him around next year on a similar deal - 2-way, but with a pretty high AHL salary ($300K this season). I just wonder if he works out like Michael Amadio did - he looked not bad in his cup of coffee with the Sens, now a productive regular with a ring.
As far as Dellandria and middle six - I think the 3rd line is Pinto, Grieg & Jarventie if they trade away Tarasenko and Kubalik after game 41. If Dellandria were to be part of a return and keeps Jarventie in the AHL the rest of the year, all good. Faksa is taking on a fair bit of next-year salary.
The Sens need to sprinkle in some veteran competition for key minutes with the salary cap room they have if they don't make a big move of trading one of the young locked-up players

We are not making the playoffs without a brand new Head Coach
I think why it's coming at the coach now is that there's no apparent issue with the players' effort, commitment or skill level.
Their decision making sucks as a team. They're often working hard, but creating openings for the other team. Taking risks without a payoff. The outside-looking-in conclusions are that one of the following is true:
1. DJ Smith coaching staff has a good tactical system for what the players should be doing in various situations, but is unable to effectively communicate / teach tactical decision making
2. DJ Smith coaching staff does not have a good tactical system
3. The players all have horrible hockey sense. Including players that did not have that reputation on other teams who then come to Ottawa

I'm thinking that Ottawa isn't a destination for Gudbranson. They can't fit him with 50% retention, that's not an answer. You'd have to give up assets for a player they like who makes $4M or more, your concept here is getting rid of him for cap space.

Sens can barely field a full 20 players under the salary cap, they can't afford Gudbranson. You'd have to take at least equal salary back, and there isn't really anyone they're looking to dump.

Definitely no retention on Chabot. That would be ridiculous.
If there's an $8M extension with Nylander that checks out. I don't think you can pay him more than Brady or Stu though.
If he won't sign for a contract equal to Brady & Stutzle then I don't think the Sens should do it.

I don't give a crap about Palmieri and never mentioned him.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kyle_Okposos_Lover</b></div><div>Debrusk isnt a scoring winger, he overproduced last season and is finally seeing regression. Hes a 20-25 goal scorer, not a number id consider a goal scoring winger.

Debrusk is a scoring winger. He scores a lot of goals. 27 last year, 25 the year before.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kyle_Okposo_Lover</b></div><div>70 skaters finished the season with a 30 or higher goal pace last season. To me, thats what it takes because thats a top 6 scorer. Thats just how i do it tho</div></div>
54 players total had 30 or more goals last year.
A 30 goal player on the 2nd line is "pretty average"? It just isn't. You're talking nonsense.

Any GM in this league, if they had the opportunity to build a team around McAvoy or Drai, every one of them picks Drai.</div></div>
It still comes down to too much for one player who's only signed for one more year.
I don't know - if building around the best player was guaranteed to be a success, Edmonton having the best two players doesn't seem to be saying much for the model.

As a Bruins fan, I'd be very much no to what was proposed, let alone anything that touches McAvoy or Swayman..... Why would the Bruins blow up a 1st place team for a decent player only signed for one more year? Ullmark for a first and RNH maybe. Draisaitl is good, but a long way from 2nd best player.

It feels like you're overreacting to them losing to a hot team on the second half of a back to back - they just beat the Leafs. And Reaves was completely invisible in that game - I don't think there's much point in bringing him in for that purpose.

Ceci with the 2 2nd round picks (2024 2nd being basically a late first at this point) for Carlo doesn't twitch your yes meter in anyway and then here's a perfect comparison for taking on cap, Patty Marleau with a 1st which was a 6 mill cap hit, Brown in total would be just around 4 with a unprotected 2026 1st...</div></div>
