Colton for Dowd
I mean if Landy is fully Landy that’s one situation I could see (maybe the only one) where Ritchie plays 3C. I don’t know that Dowd is the right guy stylistically, check his NHL edge stats below 50th percentile in top speed and speed burst, and he is in the 96% for his shooting % (is that driving his numbers and is it sustainable?) especially between 2 speed merchants like Wood and LOC. Colton does look like the guy they could move for salary cap reasons.

Kovacevic for a late 3rd value seems right to me. Big RD on a minimum contract who can kill penalties.

The Caps might consider this but I doubt they would want to pay ontop of Dowd. Could see a 1 for 1 due to cap constraint but no chance they do this with losing positioning in the draft

I don't think they'd mind switching a 3rd for a 5th. I'd be interested in this deal nonetheless. It's intriguing that could help both teams.

Yeah i agree with above, we might even be able to get drouin for a little under 4 since a lot of his resugence is from mack playing crazy. Also if we're going with annunen for back up this year odds are he will be back up next year as well. and considering woody has 5 more years left we're probily stuck with him, he's been fine for his price tag really, as long as he brings his physicality in playoffs i'd keep him.

Arizona or San Jose would be smart to grab him super cheap.
Gotta hit the cap floor and maybe it clicks.

This would be a sphincter clenching start to the season. Juice has basically come out of nowhere to be the backup to a Cup contender. He's had a very average last few years. GMCM signed Prosvetov to be backup before this season. He hasn't shown this level of play over a whole season in several years and nowhere close to the level of the NHL. Maybe he succeeds, but its a big risk fo sho

Kotkaniemi scratched
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcsnack</b></div><div>Okay yeah I was told no way yall move him and Staal was way more likely to get dealt... what is the actual value you would look for if he was dealt?</div></div>

I’d be happy if they just got out of his contract clean, no retention. So were it me, I’d dump him for future considerations and slot Drury in as the 3C/J Staal eventual replacement.
However, I’m not sure the Canes would dump him so soon. He is still young enough and has shown some promise as a decent player. (You’d also have to find a team that still believed in him and was willing to take on that deal. I think he’s young enough still where that isnt yet impossible) However, their cap situation and the players with expiring deals coming this summer likely means that they need to be rid of either Kotkaniemi or Kuznetsov to re-sign/replace enough players to stay at the level they have been at. Clearing Kotkaniemi’s $4.8M makes that much easier.

New Third Pairing Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>I guess I don't really view them as a rebuilding team per se. They have a good young core and prospects that are up and coming. They just need to surround them with the right guys to help take the next step.
I can certainly see your point regarding Dvorak. Him and Colton are kind of redundant. Wasn't sure of his status and if he'll be back.</div></div>
No stress - It's not an insulting trade - the value is ok.
Just not what the habs need right now!

New Third Pairing Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffGorton</b></div><div>Habs do not want Ross Colton unless there are multiple 1st rounders in return. He is a cap dump for the Habs.</div></div>
Ross Colton is not a cap dump, but Montreal wouldn't want him.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>Well, you're not getting Lehkonen back, but I think you'd like Colton. <strong>I understand he's not the most exciting acquisition, but I do think he makes that team better</strong>.
Is Evans likely to extend in Montreal? If so then I could see why this wouldn't make sense.</div></div>
I don't think any rebuilding team is all that interested in taking on cap space to improve their bottom 6 C, especially given the term on Colton's contract. Montreal's hoping to get more than 25 games combined from Dvorak and Dach next season. Newhook has also started to show serious improvements at center since coming back from injury. Them, Suzuki and Evans means Montreal's unlikely to be in the market for a center who isn't either a young, true top-6 C or a guy with the potential to be that.
It doesn't really matter if Evans will be re-signed are not or what it would cost Montreal in a trade, Colton doesn't make sense as a trade target.

Mtl declines IMO I just dont see a justification to take a guy that makes 4M per year. Yes he's an upgrade in term of pts production but he would be a 3C or 2C if someone is injured but he never reached 40 pts in his career. Even if value wise it's fair, I just don't see the point of doing that for MTL.

I feel that he holds a higher 3rd rounder in value, could be a Kovy + late pick for a 2nd. We'd definitely take the PHI '24 2nd for him, wouldn't even think twice if that was offered.

On the other hand, if he buys into Bednar's system and starts to click a little bit, then maybe the team has found a third liner for the future. Worth a shot imo, as it's really cap space and the third that are the main return.</div></div>
I would really like to see Krebs be that, but as someone who watches him often, its not there and Beds won't give him the years it may take.

Krebs wouldn't be a fit in the Avs system. He's a little softer and gets lost more often than Jost. He's kind of a high end JLF and that's a bad 4C fit.

ya i think hes going to enter the season at 8th or 9th on the depth chart, habs maybe squeeze a 3rd if the timing is perfect but i dont see them being too worried about the return, given he was a waiver claim any pick up is a solid considering.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>I feel like Colton would make their bottom six better but also recognize they have a lot of forwards when healthy. I could see it happening if they also moved, say Evans.
Ultimately the Avs could move Colton for a pick and make a different offer for Kovacevic, but I went this route for the sake of simplicity.</div></div>
Colton for sure would be an improvement to their current bottom 6, however I'm hoping for bigger things from the habs this offseason. A reunion with Monahan on the 3rd line would be ideal IMO.
They have lots of cap space and defenseman / draft picks to make a big splash this offseason potentially.
