Do you have a player on your favorite team that you love to hate, and hate to love?

This thread is for players that are top line talent but that can never put it all together
Players that have shown signs of being able of taking over games, but are so inconsistent with their play they never truly breakout. forever bound to 3rd line duty.

Here is my list as a MTL fan: Andrei Kostitsyn, Lars Eller, David Desharnais

Players I here from other teams: Matt Moulson, Nick Bjugstad, Sam Gagner, Cody Franson

Ryan Spooner. Can dominate on the PP but defensively struggles 5 on 5. Chara used to be shut down but is now so slow its frustrating to watch.

Although he's one of my favorite players, this is Andre Burakovsky. The guy is so electric, so fun to watch, but he never puts it together for a full season. Once he does, he'll get 60 points. But he's hovering around 40 because of his inconsistency

Ryan Spooner 100% for Boston. The kid shows flashes of being able to offensives keep teams on their heels with his speed and vision, problem is if he can't separate he's screwed. Another guy I'd throw in for Boston is Reily Nash. He's played a lot of 4th line for Boston, but the guy has the 3-zone ability to be a solid winger and typically his S% is around 10% which is solid. His issue is he can't consistently give offensive production and he doesn't shoot nearly enough. I'm expecting him to bounce back this year and hopefully get some more time on the 3rd line to combat the defensively inept Spooner

Kind of an easy answer, but Nail Yakupov. He has all the talent in the world, but his hockey IQ is absolutely horrendous.

I think at this point Nail is just a bust. He's never shown flashes in the NHL and has always been inconsistent

Yakupov is my answer. He is definitely good enough to be a star player, but so far he just hasn't got there.

Yeah, his skill set is specifically for a top six scorer. So he's useless anywhere else in the lineup, but he isn't good enough for a top six role.
