There's a lot suggesting that Lupul is no longer injured, and if that's the case, and he passes the physical, the Leafs will have to waive and bury him, which still will take up significant cap and therefore may put the Leafs in a bit of a stressful situation, given that if they bury him they'll only have a million in cap space (if Brown signs for the projected 3+ million) with only Leivo as an extra and no cap space if he stays with the team.

Doug you're a reasonable guy, but Laynious does present the worse scenario for the Leafs....that Lupul is fit to play. Of course he will never play for the Leafs but the Leafs somehow have to get rid his of cap. But Leafs cannot. just assign guys to LTIR.
I think Lou has a trade in place with Arizona that they trade for Lupul in September when the "official" medicals are in. One deal is for Lupul on LTIR...maybe a minor leaguer or 3rd rounder. Maybe a first rounder if he can play, then Arizona buries him but has to pay his salary.
IMO Lupul does not want to medical fit to play and play in the AHL. He remains, "not fit to play"

I'm just merely suggesting that if he were able to play this year then the Leafs will be in some poop. No doubt there is a trade already in place (as per palhal) for said situation but I am just suggesting that if there isn't a way out what would we do?

Bury him? Sure, but still $4mil on the books.
Play him? I would at least give him a shot to play sheltered minutes to see if we could raise the value up a bit. Chances are he gets injured again and *poof* there goes this doomsday scenario.

If he goes to LTIR then I don't think we NEED to make that Grabner type trade anymore....but......if he can play and we can't trade him......then we gotta do something.

Hal: I was just trying to take a light hearted approach to the above. Wasn't aware that Lupul had a physical with the Leafs recently, but I agree with all that there is no way Lupul finds his way back to Leafs, and it may also work with Colorado, Vegas, AZ, that they take on the contract, ideally insured to reach the cap floor.

Maybe this is the reason Brown has not signed yet....if Leafs have now both Lupul and Horton on summer LTIR they could go all the way up to 10M over 75M right?, plenty of space to sign Brown.
But if there is a concern about Lupul situation and only Horton is on LTIR....maybe there is an agreement with Brown already; if things go south with Lupul we sign you 1yr at whatever is possible (next yr still RFA) and then sign a longer deal later, could be even during season after Lupul is traded, buried to Marlies or 'shot on the leg' back to Robida's Island...also he has a NTC listing 14 teams he can be traded to, this could make almost impossible to trade him.

Anyway I agree with Palhal here, Lupul most probably prefer to be not fit to play and get his 3.75M salary due this year than play AHL...
