It sounds like Winnipeg doesn't want futures for Ehlers. It kind of goes against the try to win now philosophy.

Pass on Greenway, I'd rather have the younger Drury who we know works in the system, or trade him for more of a positional need than bottom six forward.

Hawks aren't eating 6 seasons of Skinner's buyout just to move up 4 spots in round 1 - even at 50% retention. The difference in the player available at 14 versus 18 in this draft will be minimal. I'm actually shocked Buffalo traded back from 11 to 14.

lol. No. You want to give us pick 14 to either just take Skinner or buy him out so you don't have to deal with the cap hit, fine. But we aren't sending back 18.

Skinner at $4.5 million retention isn’t a terrible contract anymore. I don’t know if a 3rd and swapping #18 for #14 is enough to take on Skinner, but it’s not too far away as long as we’re not buying him out.

You do realize that you can click on the 2024 draft picks you're proposing in trades rather than write them in?

Sure, maybe if Skinner actually agreed to play in Chicago. But the trade as proposed is that the Hawks buyout Skinner. Likely because he wants to go play for a playoff contender and that's the only reason he approves the trade. This is simply Buffalo trying to move off half the buyout cost and cap hit. That's the only scenario that makes sense here.

Oh I agree— if it’s a buyout then this isn’t close to enough payment for the $9 million cap space.

Depending on how Necas/Guentzal shake out the Canes will be in the market for a top 6 winger, 2C, and potentially a RHD if the coaching staff doesn't think Morrow can handle the minutes/defensive responsibilities.

The speculation is that they'd try to fill the top 4 RHD or 2C hole and fill Ehlers spot internally with Lambert or whatever.
