why would the pens do that wings trade? you gain 2m of cap space but get much worse players.

and no not trading yager, he is too good of a prospect to be traded. plus you aren't trading him for a superstar but for another future asset which I'm not even sure is as good as yager or better.

After this season they get even more cap space, would be the main reason, getting out of the remaining years of Jarry.
McGoarty viewed as ready to play this year would be the reason for that trade, I honestly do not know which prospect I would prefer...I think they are pretty close and suspect Yager will have a better career but I have been wrong about 1 or 3 prospects in my life haha

That Wings trade is fascinating. Pens clear some cap while keeping roughly the same roster composition

I will say Jarry is imo much better than Husso, so it comes down to how much the Pens value that space

If the Detroit trade is mostly for the cap space, then what that space is used for becomes much more important. This ACGM doesn't use the immediate cap space that it opens. Why wait for Husso's contract to come off the books to use that space? The Pens are too old to be able to play the long game.
However, that conflicts with the McGroarty/Yager swap. Yager might be NHL ready, but McGroarty probably is, making this trade a win-now move. So the two big moves being made here have conflicting goals unless the Pens use the cap space from the Wings trade to make more significant improvements to the roster.

The cap savings is some this year but mostly next year. If Jarry is viewed by management as the back up and Smith didn't fit, then getting the comparable but slightly lesser goalie and winger is a fair and wise move for Pittsburgh. All players need a change so no, the two trades do not conflict at all.

That's exactly the problem. The Pens are the oldest team in the league. We are lucky that Crosby, Malkin, and Letang have been as good as they have been in their mid 30s. If we wait until Husso's contract is off the books, we may have waited too long for the cap space to be useful.

Smith and Jarry are both better players. In my opinion, Jarry significantly so. It's a step backwards, but the cap space gives us the opportunity to add someone more impactful for the top line than David Perron or Daniel Sprong. Take it.

fair on the prospect point.

for the jarry trade I disagree, I mean sure we do free up a lot of cap space for the 25/26 season but:

1. we cannot have a mediocre year next year, or dubas will be forced to start a rebuild if that is not already the case this year, which we will see in a couple of days, and would be a shame. and neither fabbri or husso would help.

2. jarry has value. maybe not ullmarks value but it's not a cap dump like both husso and fabbri would be. imo we lose that trade big time.

McGoarty isn't viewed as ready to play this year which is why WPG won't play him and told him go through the system and he asked out.

You are high as a kite if you think the penguins would offer any of that. This WPG fan trade is dead on arrival.
At best you'll get a late first for him. Most likely a 2nd and a failed prospect with a name like PHL got, or if you do better a 2nd and a decent prospect like a B+ guy.

every one of these trades is awful for the penguins.

They just give Acciari and POJ away for nothing.... how nice of them.

They aren't taking back your cap dump on a a Jarry trade. Smith for Fabbri is a rental for rental swap.
