Well, at least it's not Kent Johnson for Winnipeg's 1st and Harris. Columbus still says no, though. Caufield is a better player than Marchenko but Jiricek projects to be better than Mailloux. Jiricek is the most valuable piece in that trade. So Columbus declines.

Why was would we ever trade Caufield? He's such a good player and he's got a great attitude.

why not? Marcheno is big, a great player, a scorer, and a young player. Having him with Demidov could spar our second line while Newhook, Suzuki, and Slaf play on the first wave, no?

Jiricek, Reinbacher (two top 5 overall RHD), and Roy playing on the right side long-term would set us back??

Because Caufield is working out. He's signed to a good deal, is improving each year, and is gonna have a breakout goal-scoring season this year.

so it's only an emotional attachment? You think that Marcheno wouldn't fit?

Confused who you're referring to here, but to cover all options:

Jiricek - Absolutely not. Pending pick 4, he's their only chance to have a top pair RD currently in the org. Plus his grief was ice time related last season, (hopefully) should he solved now

Marchenko - Doesn't seem likely at all. Bro is an absolute vibe and sure seems to love it here, even with no team success to this point.

Johnson - Sure, as long as it makes sense. Down 2nd season, but he's still EASILY the best piece in every trade you see for him on this site. Columbus has plenty of organizational depth, so trading KJ for 2-3 lesser pieces rather than just riding him out with his high upside would be a mistake imo. And respectfully, if he did want out then tough **** 😅 He really doesn't have any leverage to force a trade.

No. One had 65 points last season and the other 42 points. Why do you want to make the trade? Body size?

Caufield is not an easy player to replace...

Jirice too. Marchenko can score play 2-way, along the board, and offer another monstar in our top 6.

Hutson Reinbacher
Ghule Jiricek
Xhekaj Roy
Harris Struble

This is a huge d-core for our future. Marchenko/Demidov duo is a real treat. I know that we all love Cole, but if we can upgrade somehow, why shouldn't we try?

why?

For starters, we have Fehervary, Sandin, and Alexeyev down the left side, all under contract next season, all under 25, and all played very well last year. So Matheson isn't needed at all. Barron will probably have a better career than Iorio, rather keep Iorio because he's our guy. If we were to move a RHD, it would be one of TVR, Jensen, or Bear because the right side is crowded and we need to make room for Iorio. Lastly, the Caps shouldn't be moving the first rounder from this year at all unless it's for a scoring forward. All this does is crowd our defense more, and take away from our salary cap space this summer, for no reason.
