Last One Before the Draft - Lets Get Wild Edition

Description
Premises for this mock:

2OA is Levshunov. The Hawks view next year's forward pool to be much deeper, and with the addition of McGroarty, they can be more comfortable taking a D.

FLA can't afford to continue paying $15M for their goalie complement, especially with Knight's up and down development. Knight will have a longer leash here, can work with Mrazek, and FLA secures cap space to run it back and Gajan to develop to replace Bob. The Hawks count on Knight and Commesso to be their future in net.

WPG needs help now, and Murphy, while injury prone, gives them a legit 3/4 RHD at 2M, and they recoup a first this year as well as OTT's third.

Marchy and Tanev cash in on inflated short term deals, with the understanding they'll have the option of being able to be traded to a contender in 25-26 when the McCabe retention slot opens.

Teuvo gets what is, essentially, a $21M bridge to his last contract, and guaranteed top 6 minutes. This presumes CAR prioritizes Guentzel and Skjei.

The Hawks maintain one retention slot to move Hall or AA as a rental to a cup team at the deadline. Reichel and Kurashev get reduced pressure to put it together, and can move up or down the lineup depending on deadline trades.

McGroarty isn't being moved for a declining 31YO.

apparently you didn't see the other assets, including the mid first which is more valuable rolling eyes

Hawks aren't spending $9m on Tanev or $9.5m on Marchessault. That is a big overpay by the Hawks for McGroarty and trading Gajan in a Knight deal is also a mistake. This whole thing isn't good for the Hawks.

20th OA is late. It just won't be a competitive offer.

If Rutgers traded for a pick it’s going to be higher then what he was drafted at in a lot deeper of a draft

Ah sorry, I was looking at the Islanders from TB one. Still not competitive.

I'm going to laugh really hard when WPG ends up trading McGroarty to MTL for Kaiden Guhle straight up and then Guhle gets benched because he's not "mature" enough for a playoff run.

Contracts that are two years or shorter are LITERALLY meaningless for the Hawks. They need protection to help develop Korchinski, Bedard, and Nazar, and Tanev and Marchy aren't coming here unless they're overpaid.

Overpaid is one thing. Those two contracts are ridiculous. Even $7m for Tuevo is a little much. If Tanev and Marchy cost that much, pass.

Cap space is an asset, pissing it away ties Davidson’s hands from other potential moves that may be made to acquire draft capital or potentially long term assets (i.e. Rantanen or Marner next summer). It’s one thing to overpay by $1 - 1.5m on a short term deal but those Tanev and Marchessault proposals are in the neighborhood of $3.5 - 4.5m too high.
