Cbj could offersheet Schneider and only pay a 2nd for that price and the Rangers are in bad position to pay that much.

Beyond that, CBJ is in no position to spend a 1st for a good but not great defenseman.

NYR absolutely match and send a pick or prospect to CBJ for this deal or whoever else sent it. Schneider is staying put. However a trade like this is very tempting. I’d say it’s more than tempting, it’s probably a must do.

I'm just saying that's an insane price to pay. I don't think Schneider is worth that $4.5m, but if CBJ was willing to pay it, they might as well offersheet him because he's also not worth what will be a top 10 pick next year.

Nemec was a top rookie last year who should be out #1RHD in three years. Luckily we have another full year with him to see but I figure Fitz will try to lock him down for 8yr at a number like $6.5.

If fox wasn’t in the way Schneider would become our 1RD also. I get that you hate NYR but Schneider is absolutely worth 4.5M. He will get the NyR bridge around 2.2-2.5 but he’s worth more for sure.

If you'd be willing to pay $4.5 now, go for it. If you think they'd match, fine. This event about hating someone, it's that if CBJ offered $4.5 the Rangers would still struggle on cap room. They probably could match but puts them in a bind. I do figure Schneider will get $2.5 for next two years while Rangers wait for Trouba's deal to expire.

4.5 x 6 is vastly different than 4.5 for 1-2 years. By year 6 the 4.5 will be near 1/2 of what he should be getting. NYR aren’t in any cap bind. They moved Goodrow, cap went up 5M.

I know Schneider is good, but 1) Jenner isn't available, even for a top-flight defensive prospect, 2) we're in no position to be trading likely top-10 picks, and 3) our younger 1RD couldn't get playing time last year because of the logjam on the right side.

Value aside, that trade is so unrealistic it's not even worth discussing beyond "total fantasy".

If the Rangers and Schneider are down for $4.5 x 6y, more power to them. I'll go back to my main point this is too much for CBJ to pay for Schneider's promise.

They probably won't have their 2nd rounder next year after they complete the Provorov trade so they would need to get into gross overpay territory to get Schneider to sign an offersheet. Which based on Waddell's history can't be completely ruled out.
