Edmonton is going to turn into the new Tampa Bay on here with the we'll take this guy off your hands because you can't afford to extend him posts. Drai is a top5 player on this planet, if he wants to extend then Edmonton will find the cap space to extend him.

Isn't Eichel to Tkachuk an apples to oranges comparison? Eichel was damaged goods when he was traded and there was no chance of salvaging any relationship with Buffalo at the time of the trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SK101</b></div><div>I think you are underrating werenski. His even strength point production is behind Hughes, Hedman, and Makar. <strong>If the jackets didn’t have the worst PP in the league</strong> he’d be getting Norris votes this year even with missing some games. His defensive analytics are great as well. He’s a legit 1D. He’s a +4 playing top minutes on one of the worst teams in the league with some of the hardest deployment out of any defenseman in the entire league.</div></div>
Your other points are good ones but I would argue Werenski is part of the PP problem. While he's easily a top5 dman in the league in the offensive zone he's a terrible QB on the power play.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cbjthrowaway</b></div><div>what would the specific asks be for those teams, though?
the prospects in this cbj offer beat what montreal and dallas would be willing to offer. new jersey doesn't have the cap. carolina doesn't have the cap to do it this year unless vancouver wants to take back money/rentals. cbj's picks are far more valuable and make up the rest of the difference.
that leaves buffalo and detroit. i still don't think they'd offer enough to where cbj couldn't outbid without giving up jiricek/johnson, but then again, i still haven't seen a specific offer from those teams.</div></div>
I think the problem is you're not offering up any blue chip high end prospects for arguably a current top5 center. If development goes really well the most likely outcome for Marchenko/Sillinger/Mateychuk is 2nd line winger/2nd line center/2nd pair dman. The first round picks are likely in the 15-20 range with Petterson at center in Columbus so while you could add up everything and say look you're getting 4-5 first rounders I don't see any single piece that is going to wow Vancouver.
Just spitballing ideas, I have no idea if the teams below would trade the players for a player like Petterson or not. While your CBJ offer has more 1st rounder quantity I think any of the offers below would be more attractive in terms of quality to Vancouver.
Anaheim - Carlsson, Mintyukov, maybe 1 1st rounder
Buffalo - Benson, Rosen, 2 1st rounders
Detroit - Edvinsson, Kasper, 1 1st rounder
Arizona may be able to actually put together the best quality package but I'm leaving them out of everything until they play in an NHL arena.

Switch Jenner with either Gaudreau or Laine. While Gaudreau/Carlsson/Laine would be a lot of fun to watch I think it would be a disaster with nobody to do the dirty work along the boards or stand in front of the net.

A Different Take at C
Why wouldn't the Leafs just buyout Murray? For a very small $687k cap hit next year and $2m the year after they can save themselves from paying assets to some team to take his contract. Plus an added bonus would be sticking Ottawa with a small cap hit for retaining when he was traded.

This would be correct answer.
As pocke notes he's a servicable guy but he's also one of those just wait until he puts everything together guys that never puts everything together. Covid/injuries/FO things have screwed up his development but he's going on his draft year +6 this summer. At this point he is who he is and that's a 3rd line guy on most teams.

He may be to the right team but the problem I see with Bean is he hasn't really shown anything in the 7 years since he's been drafted that says he is more than a bottom pairing dman with offensive upside. Yes, we've seen glimpses of 2nd pairing potential but they have been too few and far between IMO to say just give him more time and he'll get there. Couple that with a $2.3m cap hit and his value really takes a dive.

Ummmm, you sure about that? Most of the info from what I remember said Jarmo tried to sign Bob to an extension but Bob had already told Jarmo to go pound sand prior to his last season here.

As for the trades themselves, neither the Panthers or the jackets are paying that much to move bad contracts.

Korpi didn't struggle behind the same atrocious defense and terrible coaching. I don't think Elvis is as bad as this season has shown but until he gets his head straight and shows he's at least a league average goalie I don't see any team in the league giving up assets to acquire him.

Gudbranson has obviously been terrible this season but I'm not sure I like the idea of replacing a bad contract on defense and a 1st rounder with a bad contract at center. I'd rather just go through next season with him and either buy him out or send him to the AHL for the rest of his contract. I realize that would take groveling with Mike Priest but at some point he has to wake up and realize this is an NHL franchise. It's not a P&L business like Worthington Steel.

Korpi has been just as injury prone as Murray and Samsonov the past 3-4 years so if the Leafs are spending assets on injury insurance at least send someone their way with a relatively clean injury history.

My guess is those 10 teams are also interested in McCabe, Murphy, Chychrun, Klingberg, etc. It doesn't mean there's a 10 team bidding war for Gavy and he's guaranteed to bring back Jarmo's asking price.

I like Robinson but how does someone who had a career high of 27 points last season get labeled a guy good for 30 points a year? His hands of stone are not going to magically get better if he played for a better team. Personally I think if Jarmo can get a 3rd rounder for him he should take it. There's a very limited market for guys making $1.6m a year that are fast but don't provide much else.

I would personally like to see the Jackets sign a vet dman to a two year contract even if it means overpaying by a little. I look at the above defense and can't figure out who is going to tutor the kids on some of the finer points of being an NHL dman because it sure as heck is not Gudbranson.

Context matters. Folks come up with the same babble about Peeke because he's also one of the Sole Survivors Of The Apocalypse.</div></div>
His play didn't take a nosedive when Werenski got hurt. If anything he has actually looked <em>slightly</em> better since then. He didn't look good last year and he hasn't looked good this season no matter where he has been playing. You're holding on to the Gavrikov that looked great as a shutdown dman playing with Savard. Since Savard was traded Gavrikov just hasn't looked good.
Assuming Jarmo can't extend him what do you think is a fair value for Gavrikov at the TDL, keeping in mind there's likely to be a lot more sellers than usual this year? Maybe someone pays a 1st rounder but I personally think his value is closer to two 2nd rounders or a 2nd and a good prospect. It sure as heck isn't a 1st, a 3rd, a good young cost controlled top4 guy, and 1 1/2 roster players. If that was his value he wouldn't be signing anywhere for $4.75m.

Gathering futures
I hope for the sanity of CBJ fans that other NHL GMs value Gavrikov as highly as they do because these proposals are getting crazy. I've been to seven CBJ games this season and can confidently state Gavrikov is one of the issues with the defense. His stats don't stink because he's playing with boat anchors, his stats stink because he just isn't very good. Yes he eats a lot of minutes but when he's on the ice he doesn't clear guys out of the crease, he doesn't battle in the corners, he doesn't really do anything except skate around, and he's not a very good puck mover. He's a bottom pairing dman on most good teams but everyone is hanging on to the Gavvy from four years ago when he formed a pretty good shut-down pair with Savard. Since then he's played 2LD because Jarmo/Torts/Larsen just don't have anyone else to put there.
He might very well return a 1st rounder but if I'm shipping out 1st and 3rd round picks, a good young top4 dman, and 1 1/2 roster players I'm looking for a lot better return than Gavrikov. With how many teams are likely to be sellers at the TDL this year that shouldn't be hard to find.

There would be plenty of ice time available with the CBJ if Jarmo would use Cleveland to develop players instead of the NHL.
