Calgary gets fleeced in all of these trades except the last one, which they still don't do

I mean the value between #7 and #9 is estimated to be #37 + #111. So basically Markstrom is being traded for an early 2nd and three 4ths which seems pretty fair for no retention.

EDIT: Did pick #6 instead of #7 myb. Difference is #47 + #192. So it'd be a mid 2nd + two 4ths and a 6th.

A couple things. The value of picks is based on average, in this draft the gap between picks 4 and 11 are virtually indistinguishable and really comes down to preference. So the only difference between picks 7 and 9 is the choice of a preferred prospect, and since Calgary needs quality prospects at nearly every position except wing there is zero reason to justify trading a high quality asset like Markstrom to move up 2 spots unless someone like Demidov is still available at #7 for some reason. Also the OP literally says in that trade that retention would likely be involved.

Yeah true. A lot seem to think Markstrom without retention is worth a late first or an early 2nd though which is fine but at that point I’d rather just go after Ullmark.

The Jets already have 5 good forward prospects, their defensive prospect pool is thin. I don't think they take this trade. Heinola is likely starting in the top 6 next year.

Hawks decline. They aren't paying two 3rd's for a one year Mangiapane rental. They can spend $ in free agency for an equal player and keep their picks.

There's no incentive for Winnipeg to do that. Heinola fills a need on the Jets, Pelletier doesn't.

Pissy Devils fans have a small advantage…in that we know the Markstrom’s price agreed upon at the deadline. Without that, we would probably be saying Holtz is too much.
