If I'm the Hawks, this is close enough to fair value that it comes down to who I'm taking at #2. If I'm picking Levshunov and I'm still very high on Rinzel, it's not worth taking on Kampf's contract to get Liljegren for roughly 4x$4 million. If I'm picking Demidov, then I'm much less likely to end up blocking out a prospect at RD, and I'd accept.

Lilly doesn't cover the negative of Kampfs contract.

Liljegren is projected at a bit over 2M. 3M if he goes to arb. Hawks fans being worried about such short term low money contracts like Kampf is hilarious.

Hawks probably give up that 4th for Lilypad. Leafs can hang on to Kampf.

I was using AFPAnalytics' contract projections-- they project his contract at 1x$3.2 million or 4x$4.1 million. As for the Kampf-- clearly Leafs fans are worried about his contract, or they wouldn't be trying to trade him away. It wouldn't have a huge effect on the Hawks the next few seasons, but it would be a slight negative. I'm worried about the Kampf contract the same way I'd be worried about a 6th round pick if you proposed a trade of the Hawks' 6th round pick for a future 7th: relatively low stakes but not still worth considering.

No Hawks fan is "worried" about Kampf's contract, they just aren't willing to do Toronto a favor for nothing.

Plus, if the Hawks wanted a player like Kampf, they could go out and sign a UFA for cheaper and keep the pick. Same with Lilly.

It has nothing to do with “worrying about such short term low money contracts”, it is about getting value for your money and maximizing the return. Cap space is a very valuable commodity, teams shouldn’t just give it away because they have it.

If Toronto or any other team for that matter wants Chicago’s cap space they should be prepared to pay for it.

Caps pass. We've seen over the last few seasons how critical Carlson is to the lineup, and he actually looked pretty good defensively last year, much to my pleasant surprise. Also, I don't want to be anywhere near that Marner negotiation/extension

Marner 1for1 for a 34yr old d-man that is just another Rielly. Short 2 first rounders and a top prospect. Marner isn't waiving for anywhere he doesn't plan on signing with. No team is trading for Marner for the same reason. Now at the TDL as a rental maybe he waives for a cup chance because he isn't getting it with the leafs.

For a wide variety of reasons the caps pass. I don't see any realistic scenario in which Carlson is moved

Okay... I'm telling you, the Caps won't do it because of Carlsons status and importance within the club. And I wouldn't do it because that Marner contract is going to be stupid.

If the Hawks are interested in bringing in another D( I’m far from convinced they are) they can do much better than Lily. Kampf would be looked at as a cap dump from the Hawks . You don’t have a deal with the Hawks with this proposal.
