Korpo can be bought out. They don't need to trade him with a sweetener, especially a top 10 pick.

Ottawa does not need to retain salary for 5 years. With Columbus's center depth what it is (they were forced to play Laine there last year), a one for one for Laine and Norris is all that is needed but that feels more like moving sideways and I honestly think Blue Jackets should be the one sweetening. We are talking about a player in Norris who scored 35 goals in 66 games two seasons ago.

I think Boston would want more for Ullmark. If it was just Chych it would have happened already.

Norris is good but doesn’t perform at the clip of Laine when both are healthy. So no, CBJ should not be adding. This is a solid deal. Not crazy about retaining but a 2nd would be sufficient compensation.

When both are healthy is doing a lot of heavy lifting concerning Laine. Last time Laine had 30 goals was in 18-19 for the Jets. CBJ is getting the younger player, playing the more difficult position. You are marketing Laine on his name alone, not his actual production.

And Norris may never play up to his previous standards again either. He’s had surgery on the same shoulder three times. That concerns me a lot more for five years of contract than a guy whose injuries have all been one-off freak ones.

Norris is the same age as laine and has one season over 30 points. He’s also signed at a much longer term and has had two major shoulder surgeries. Jackets hard pass
