Hey man if Blake wants to put his job on the line instead of correcting a mistake that's his prerogative

Blake put his job on the line the moment he made that trade, riding it out gives him more time. Buying out PLD or trading him for less than what he was acquired for guarantees Blake being fired.

That contract is virtually guaranteed to put them over the barrel at some point in the next 7 seasons

So in all seriousness (not gonna get snarky here, this is actually for conversation), Blake would treat a discussion with Boston as if he was trading you a 1C, because the entire league knows that's exactly what you need.

He certainly wouldn't get back the same value that he sent out to Winnipeg, but he also wouldn't just say "Hey, let me pay you to give you a 1C." His counter argument to the "correcting a mistake" comment you made above is "if Sweeney wants to keep going with Charlie Coyle as Boston's 1C, that's his prerogative."

Rob's tied to PLD unless there's something that makes his team better in the now. I imagine that he'd rather buyout PLD before trading away the 1st round pick because the buyout cost is so low due to him still being 25. If the SCF goes to Game 7, it's a moot point though.

Funny how everyone thinks PLD sucks or is a massive problem yet daily I see guys trading for him on this forum lol

We're not giving him away AND a 1st round pick for essentially nothing. That doesnt "correct a mistake", that amplifies it.

Wouldn't the 8.5mil in cap space be more valuable?
It's not like there's going to be any high impact players at 21st overall this year anyway

Let’s be clear, the Kings aren’t giving away PLD for nothing. Hes overpaid by about $2M, which means you have to normalize that before even discussing fair value,

If a trade was happening, I could see PLD and the 2024 first for Ullmark and the 2026 2nd or something like that in terms of value.

I also believe PLD is higher on the “wishlist” than Boston fans will want to admit. Sweeney likely knows he needs to be compensated

Still see them signing Lindholm

Did not know the buyout was that cheap but honestly considering the Center options available this offseason I wouldn't be upset if they ran it back with Coyle and Zacha

The Lindholm overpay seems inevitable at this point

When you sign someone in free agency or the year before, you are generally overpaying. The issue is with the expected cap spike, deals that look bad at the beginning tend to look better over time unless the player is a flat out disappointment

Every Kings fan that doesn't like PLD is hoping this Stanley Cup Final doesn't go 7 games because we're still holding out hope a buyout can happen. If it ends in 6 or less, the buyout window opens before PLD turns 26. If it goes 7 games, June 24th is PLD's 26th birthday and it will be too late for the 1/3rd cost buyout. It automatically jumps to 2/3rd cost at age 26 and becomes way too cost prohibitive to execute.

If Lindholm is going to be Pasta's center I'm more bullish but the last few years of that deal could be ROUGH

It's fascinating that a seemingly minor technicality will play such big part in your offseason I had no idea about this

They are trying to avoid the NBA finals and that’s a lot of long travel for players. The 2 days makes sense

If Blake pays to get rid of Dubois, he will be fired immediately. The PLD acquisition was the defining move of his tenure. If it ends in failure, he's gone.

This is the final year of Blake's contract. The only way he is extended is if Dubois turns into a productive player on the Kings, so he's all in on making that happen next season.

It's always been that way as far as I can remember. For the finals, there's 1 day off between games not requiring travel, and two days off between games with travel.

Maybe. Depends on where the cap goes. I do believe a front line of Zacha/Lindholm/Pasta is going to be interesting. If Pasta can raise Heinen to the level he did. I’m intrigued to see what he can do with Lindholm.

They started late. LeBrun commented on it back in October.

Second week of October feels too late a start to me. Last possible day for Cup being awarded this season is June 24 (!) As I've said many times, shorten camp, start regular season around Sept. 20, award the Cup by May 31.
