I would do the Columbus trade. I really like guhle and the swap of laine and Johnson for him makes sense from our pov.
Moving back one pick isn’t a major concern for me and svozil doesn’t feel great loosing but with guhle coming back it leaves a long term left side of werenski, guhle and mateychuk. Plus we pick up a late first and Farrell who isn’t of much concern. Dvorak if he doesn’t play well early can be waived to the minors or sent off in a trade for whatever.

Damn that would be quite the splash lol. Nice job thinking that out. So let's see.

Would any team do Guhle, 5OA for Johnson, 4OA? I think I would favor the CBJ in that deal, so if I'm the habs I say no.

Than we have Laine for 26th OA, and I don't think CBJ accepts that, so maybe if we pull both those trades together, we have an ok from both teams.

The last part of the trade is Dvo+Farrel for Svozil. I don't actually know Svozil, but Dvo and Farrel have very little value in my opinion, so the habs would win that as a cap dump. Idk what Jackets fan think of Svozil, but if they value him at all, I don't think that's a trade you go for.

So that's two no, one yes for CBJ and two yes one no for MTL.

Now if I'm MTL, we're moving up to grab a forward, so we're trading away our best defenseman, and what I assume would be a great D prospect picked at 5, and we're getting 2 great prospect at forward (4OA and Johnson) + Laine for it.

For CBJ, they are moving money away with the Laine move, and getting 1 stud Dman + 1 stud D prospect.

I think in terms of value this at least sort of works right? But then would those team really get better with moves like that? CBJ would be left with very little offensive punch and MTL really can't replace Guhle, almost all of our D prospect are offensive minded.

The next move with Arizona doesn't really make sense to me tbh, so I'm kinda ignoring that one.

Montreal has plenty of cap room. I think the inclusion of Dvorak as a dump tips this away from Columbus saying yes. I don't really like the deal at all, but I definitely see its merits, especially nicely broken down by @Ahro above. What gives me most pause is that both teams need the same thing from the draft and are likely targeting the same tall power forward out of Medicine Hat. Is Guhle, playing the same position as Columbus's best player and top non-NHL prospect, worth giving up both KJ and Lindstrom? I don't think so.

Fair comment, my trade is designed based on Lindstrom not being the guy. I think he will be a solid NHL player but after celebrini and demidov I would go D or Iginla. His injurys scare me and his play style and underwhelming Hockey senses make him a little concerning despite the obvious physical tools. If Demidov is available at 4 I am taking him ( I do not think picks 1-3 are priced affordably so I would not trade for them.) I would consider trading back with a team before calgary at 9 and get an asset or two and take Iginla. But in this case with the rumours around laine and possibility of Johnson being available, adding two forwards to our top 9 I would select the best player available which in this trade back I deemed to be sam dickinson.
